What's your childhood go-to movie?
Strangely enough, mine was "Spaceballs."
Spirit, that one horse movie. I swear I’m not a furry
Prince of egypt
Shrek
UP
During the shooting of this movie the actress who plays mathilda's mother was I'll. Danny took the young actress in and took care of her to give the mother time to focus on herself. He showed the mother the movie before official release so she could see what her daughter had been working on.
yeah mara wilson!
Mara Wilson was actually really nervous about dancing on the table, so Danny Devito got the whole cast to dance behind the camera with her.
One of my absolutely favourite fun facts of filming 🥺💛
Apparently in the book, Matilda no longer has her powers at the end, because with Miss Honey she is able to attend classes that actually challenge her, and her powers came from all that unused intellect or whatever. This is just what I've heard, I still haven't got around to reading the book.
Now that’s definitely a happy version of Carrie 😆 iykyk
It's a short book and totally worth reading or getting an audio book for... But yes, you are correct... She's also never as crazily powerful in the book as in the movie either and it takes more practice...
There's a new movie soon too, based on the stage musical... It'll likely be closer to the original book, but I haven't seen it yet to know how they've adapted it for the movie.
@@KitsyX It's out now, have you watched it? I didn't like it very much. Songs are great but it was lacking some seasoning.
Something I really like about the original movie is that, as a child, it actually made me disturbed by some things. It gave the movie it's own charm, making it a little scary but keeping stuff entertaining for children. There were jokes and relatable scenes for adults so they can enjoy the movie too. In the new netflix adaptation it felt... Too soft? I was on the edge of falling asleep.
@@zagnose It was better than the original
“You chose books, I chose looks.” will never stop being iconic.
Another big difference from the book: at the end of the book, Matilda actually does lose her abilities.
As it turned out, she was only able to do so because she wasn't being academically challenged in Miss Honeys class, so her brain had to make up for it somehow.
But that all stopped once she was transferred to a higher, more appropriate grade, because now for the first time in her life, she's being actively challenged, instead of having her smarts go to waste.
The song Matilda was dancing to is literally called "Little-Bitty Pretty One." The narrator wasn't being creepy, he was just referencing the song.
As an Irish person (actual Irish, not "Irish American"), I find your "Irish" jokes through this so much fun. What makes the "Get sticky with Mickey" worse for Irish people though, is "Mickey" is another word for a guy's downstairs part so extra nasty for us!!!!
Pam Ferris was Aunt Marge in the third Harry Potter film and she was extraordinary as she is in this movie. Impeccable comic timing.
Wow you just exploded my brain! Thank you for enlightening me!
She's also a nun in the family tv show call the midwife - her diversity of roles is insane!
Miss Honeys house is very different from the book. The main difference being that there is literally nothing in there besides a small camping stove, and two wooden boxes. Matilda didn't decide to help her just to get justice for Miss Honeys father. She also did it because Miss Honey needed serious help.
Mara Wilson was in ‘Mrs. Doubtfire’ and ‘Matilda’. Her work made some of our childhoods better.
Considering what Matilda was going through all her life, she deserved a good pastry with an accompanied fork.
P.S. I’ve never heard of the ‘Matilda is Irish’ Conspiracy Theory in all my years lol
As someone who’s observed a boarding school from afar, let’s just say throwing around children and being casually cruel is not the most surprising thing out there.
Fun Fact: They recreated the Bruce Bogtrotter scene for the ‘Matilda’ Reunion. It was quite the highlight.
But what's really gonna mess with your head is the assumption is Trunchbull killed the father for the inheritance, and we find out Miss Honeys inheritance was never touched all this time, so the natural conclusion here is that after the father died, Trunchbull was informed she wasn't entitled to the money part of the inheritance because it's in Miss Honeys name, and thus took it out on Miss Honey by stealing her wages.
Roald Dahl is that kind of writer who writes fun stories with a few dark elements but can also write very darkly comic stories.
Roald Dahl didn't even bother to give some implausible or plausible reason as to how Miss Trunchball became the headmistress of a children's school, he just wrote "and how she ever got this job is a mystery"
I’m shocked he didn’t know there was peanut butter and jelly already mixed. Someone take this man to a Walmart. 😂
I feel so uncultured
Lol. Smucker's Goober was my childhood.
Facts 😂😂
I get too upset when the jelly dries so i never bother 😅
i love how the narrator said like "matilda learned that she could punnish her parents", and the first thing that went through your head was her using voodoo dolls to stap her mom. October is over, you can stop watching horror for the month now.
5:35 First off: at the time they filmed this, they actually were husband and wife.
So what they did for this was put on a harness under the suit he's wearing, that connects to the hat, so when she tries to pull it off, he's holding it on with his whole body. So when you see her cutting the hat off in the next scene, she's actually cutting the wires from the harness off of the hat.
The shot of the mom backflipping off the table wasn't her, it was a stunt double.
And as for the cream tarts, what they did was set up miniature catapult seesaws, put a tart on one end on them, and essentially send them flying.
“Why do you have spears, you don’t need a spear” 😂
The kid didn't eat all of the cake, but he still did have to eat a lot of it. In fact after they finally finished, he got sick to his stomach. I think what they basically did was have 4 to 5 different cakes, each with more cake missing, to make it look like he'd been eating it.
8:10 You have no idea. There's a whole bit that mentions that the Trunchbull told her that now that she's an adult, she has to start paying her back for everything she did for her. The only money she had was a pound a week. The Trunchbull made her sign a paper that would redirect all of her paycheck directly into her bank.
Yoo gargle stuff is a wiiiiiiillllllld way to say mouthwash my boy...
I love your videos ❤️❤️❤️❤️
exactlyyyyyyy
LMAO not like this Billy 😂
7:59 Exactly, so who'd believe a child if they went home and said to their parents 'the headmistress threw a girl over the fence by her hair?' It's so outrageous that no parent would believe them. If she'd hit them with the riding crop she carries around with her they'd believe their children, that's why she never actually uses it.
Danny Devito is a genius and what a lovely movie. Matilda Wormwood was the OG Booktuber.
11:40 in the book, Miss Honey doesn't believe her, and asks her to do it again only to prove she in fact can't do it.
Another difference is Matilda DID prove it, and Miss Honey was completely and utterly shocked.
Why is it always ‘Mouthwash’ and never ‘Gargle Stuff’?
You’re so adorable Omg 😂
4:08 Well according to the book of 'Matilda' peroxide is "the same thing they use to disinfect the lavatory (toilet) pan, only they give it another name". Mrs Wormwood uses it every few months to freshen up her platinum blonde hair dye and even then she's only supposed to use a teaspoon of it in a basin of water, and even then it makes a lot of her hair fall out.
Hydrogen peroxide is the main ingredient in hair bleach to this day. It's also used as a disinfectant. It's good for removing blood stains on clothes.
For all the horrid things Matilda's father did to her, at least he stepped in when he thought she had stumbled across p*rn (Moby wHAT?).
Wow, this whole time I misunderstood that. I thought he thought all books were useless and bad and completely missed that he was objecting to the title lol.
'Daddy you're a crook' ~ Matilda
Miss Honeys fathers portrait is actually of a young Roald Dahl
The outdoor shots of the doll rescue scene were filmed on a sound stage, and the Trunchbulls parts were filmed separately.
Idk about the syllabus but she does read Darles Chickens I MEAN Charles Dickens. (Legends will get this reference)
I've literally just woke up from a nap, and this is the first thing I'm watching! 😁
You're the best
There's a magnet inside the chalk, and someone is using a magnet to write the words backwards. With the words already written backwards on the other side.
aaahhh, the childhood trauma😁😁😁😁
The shot of her using her powers to pull a book off the shelf is actually a guy with a fishing pole pulling it off while laying on a skateboard.
This was my favorite movie as a kid! My older siblings totally locked me in a cupboard and told me it was the Chokey which was a little traumatic but I survived haha.
i remember as a child i used to hate the princepal. now as an adult i cant help but love her actor for going all out in her acting. shes absoloutly insain and it just beutiful
Rival making points in this movie I never even though of😂😂
The Dahl's chickens quote is a reference to the BFG, another Dahl book
7:20 this killed me 😂😂
Great video! I loved this movie as a kid, it’s great being able to rewatch it with your reaction
The pitcher was being lifted by a pole, and the pole was digitally removed
In real life when acting, the dad was really close to the actress who played Matilda ( he helped direct it actually)
Danny Devito
i will say in an interview and other vids mara wilson said the doll was named wanda zinnia something and it looked like that to get back at her mom in a sense
‘Matilda’ was the wholesome sister of ‘Carrie’. I said what I said.
10:40 Omg why didn’t I think of it before? Of course it’s a Chocolate Cake Mukbang.
Miss Trunchbull was quite the Queercoded Character. I said what I said.
I’m sure everyone knows by now that Dame Queen Emma Thompson is playing Miss Trunchbull in the Netflix version of the musical.
"LET ME SEE HER PASSPORT" absolutely sent me holy sht
“Irish powers” 😂😂😂
8:04 Miss Honey is an icon, a legend and she is the Moment. Now come on now --
(I had a relative who was exactly like Miss Honey so she was one of my favourite characters out there)
love this movie and your reaction
Damn I wanted Matilda powers so much as a kid
In the book, Matilda lost her powers in the end. It happens because she goes in a class of most advanced students and she has to concentrate so much that she can't use her powers anymore.
11:14 I literally see this peanut butter and jelly jar in the supermarket all the time 😂😂 I work as a cashier and I remember the first time I saw this I thought this every child’s (mostly parent’s) dream having it all in one jar😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
I have seen this so many times and just noticed the green was supposed the soup. Guess I missed the can all this time. I always thought it was baby food in general
The mom calls it spinach so i thinknits just spinach baby food
I don't know why but whenever I watch this movie it reminds me of another movie I used to watch: Madeline.
I loved this movie as a kid, still do
“Sweat face” priceless reaction 😂😂😂
The greatest fear a grownup can have irl: the blue envelopes falling on your doormat 😅
My heart 😂 every single time
This is what kids see in scary abusive adults
Tbh you had me laughing so hard in this reaction 🤣
Peanut butter and jelly in the same jar.... Brilliant!!!!
LITERALLY ANYTHING
The Trunchbull was played by none other than Pam Ferris, aka Aunt Marge from Harry Potter.
Love the fit btw
Trunchbull is a bear hunting bear, of course she has spears.
Honestly, makes sense
ou nooo, i love matilda lol let’s gooo-
It the fact that dis movie is actually my last name matilda and it spelt exactly the same way so u could only imagine that this was my fav movie ever
Dawg, I used to love this movie as a kid. I haven't seen it in ages.
LITERALLY LIKE LITERALLY
This a banger
The Trunchbulls house was also the Omega Beta Zeta sorority house in Scream 2.
Literally anything

I’d love for you to check out ever after high, it’s what descendants took ‘inspiration’ from but it’s so much better. When descendants came out ever after high got cancelled.
i have no idea, but this video hit me. i've been laughing throughout, this was the vibe i needed today
also, mrs. trunchbull is also aunt marge from harry potter.
This is such a wholesome comment, thanks bestie
This movie gives me hope
This was such a fun commentary!! This movie was my childhood and still a favourite of mine! (*^ω^*)
When I read the title I was like “MS HONEY IS PERFECT” leave her alone 😂but I realized you was talking about the Principal
LMAO I forgot that trunchbull actually isn't even a teacher
This movie is always fun.
My childhood 🥰
literally anything
Javelins, spears
‘Matilda’ is scary, yes. However, she’s also very cool and gaslights an abuser. Or abusers.
And a killer, don't forget
Definitely recommend you react to ms doubtfire ❤
also she was 4 until the wagon pulling scene where they age her up where she's 6 and a half
Fun Fact: Roald Dahl in school was an official Taster for Cadbury Chocolate.
That's where he got the inspiration to write Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
Taxes 😱
Texas 😱
Bruce did die. The method was ‘Death by Chocolate’.
My block means my street( old saying)
18:39 Trunchbull killed Honey’s father and that among other things like tormenting her and elementary kids brings karma to it’s peak😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
he had the best teacher, a terrible principal
Just need lots of milk 10:27😂
Does he know know this is from 96? Keeps saying mid-00s haha
Fun fact: Matilda's parents swapped bodyweight's in the movie adaptation.
Really??
@@RivalReacts Yep. I think it was Danny DeVito's decision, guess he really wanted to be the dad XD
Just like a good chicken, roast for maximum flavour.
13:34 I honestly feel bad for Trunchbull she coulda been a famous pentathlete but instead she’s forced to “look after” elementary school kids. Clearly the universe has some real dark humor 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
beepboopbap
React to the ice age franchise pls😊
