  • This week, our travels take us to Cortez Colorado and Mesa Verde National Park! It did not disappoint! Check it out!
    ⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️ Click Show More ⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️
After staying one night in Monument Valley (amazing by the way), we head to Cortez, CO and WestView RV Resort. The RV Resort is very new and very nice with spacious sites and plenty of amenities, including Pickle Ball courts, horseshoes, putting green, and even a Salon and Spa!
The weather was not cooperating for our first few days and it even snowed a bit…. In May! We’re just not used to that, being from Florida! But, the weather cleared up and we got to have some fun!
Once we got our first nice day, it was time to get Lucile (our Indian Roadmaster) out to stretch her legs. So, we headed to Durango with plans to eat (of course). The ride over was a nice ride and Durango seemed like a cool little town. But, we couldn’t agree on where to eat and just went home.
We were also finally able to get out and try the inflatable kayak that we had received (via Amazon) a whole month earlier. So, no returns if we don’t like it. 😳 We drove down to McPhee National Forrest Reservoir and gave her a spin. Absolutely beautiful area and lots of room to explore. The inflatable kayak is acceptable but not as good as any hard side kayak or canoe. It will do for now, but we’re investigating other options.
The highlight of our trip (and the reason we were in the area), was Mesa Verde! The ruins can only be explored with a tour guide, and tickets for said tours can only be purchased in person at the visitor center and only 2 days in advance. So, that’s what we did. The forecast looked good 2 days out, so we scoped out the Visitor center and campground on a cold rainy day.
On tour day, we had two new full time RV friends (Dan and Eva) join us and headed to the park. Mesa Verde did NOT disappoint! We took the Balcony House tour, followed by the Cliff Palace. Both require quite a bit of climbing wooden ladders on steep cliffs. If you’re afraid of heights, this is not for you. Both tours were amazing, but Cliff Palace takes the prize! It’s absolutely incredible to see such a place in person and walk these amazing structures that hosted the Pueblos for 700 years! Our video can, in no way, do it justice. You must put this place on your bucket list!
Coming up next in our adventures… Moab and Arches National Park!!!

I've visited my freinds in CO many times, the last time I took 2 of my kids (28 and 30yo) and some of thier freinds. We went for 3 weeks in mid may thru June. It rained almost every day, until They went to a concert in the canyons, one of our last days, and we got 14 inches of snow, it was a bad storm, they had to leave the concert early, and it took them 3 hours to get home safely. this was rt 24 I think, between Denver and Loveland, not even the mountains. It can snow anytime in CO, it has every time I've gone there. I still love it!

You may be able to stay in one of the FHU campsites. We stayed in the Ute Loop in a 17+24=41ft rig. We were in the first site as you travel counterclockwise around the loop. The FHU sites are all on your left. The other sites are longer until you get up the hill and start turning to your left. Note the site in front of the toilets is a camp host site - it may be available, but was not reservable. We booked about 9 months in advance for a special event. We also experienced snow. Chased us down the road off the mesa until we reached the campground. You laughed about cell service - there is none. From the campground, you have to travel up about two miles to a lookout that gives you line of sight to Cortez for cell service. We did not take the tours, so we appreciated your video. Yes, you need to do 550. :)

    GREAT VIDEO!!!!!!
Started watching ya'lls channel a couple of months ago. I was scanning some of your older videos and came across MY HOME TOWN. I grow up just 2 miles toward Dolores from of where ya'll stayed. (The RV park location was a hay field when I was growing up in the 80's.) Seeing all the sights on the video was a trip down memory lane.
Your trip to McPhee was a major highlight for me. Growing up there while it was being built and miss enjoying the water sports and fishing it has to offer. One note; The bridge going over the lake/river into Dolores. It was always a right of passage to jump from the bridge into the lake on the last day of school.
Mesa Verde's Morefield Campground ; As a Boy Scout we would package scrap wood from the sawmill just outside of Dolores and take it the campground and sell it to the campers for Troop fundraising.
SW Colorado as so much to offer. Thou growing up I thought it was just boring place where the nearest mall was 90 miles away. As a 40 something I day dream of all great places to visit and year round activities there. It on the top of the list of places to retire. Leaving the windblown flat lands of the Texas Panhandle.
Again thanks for the GREAT VIDEO!!

I'm glad you said it looks fake because all of this seems extremely fake to me. You can't say, "Cliff dwellings"? Tell me you were joking. Maybe it was easier to be cliff dwellers, than to say Cliff dwellers. It's like the whole thing is been Elon muskified. "It musk be real because it looks so fake." When you said the ladders were original, I ask myself, where did they get the steel wood lags to put them together in the first place? What are they supposed to have eaten to have stayed alive? Maybe they had Amazon deliver protein bars.
In retrospect do you think it was actually the national park service that carved all this at the same time they wood-lagged the ladders? You can be honest about it. It'll actually help your channel's performance, if they don't shut you down for telling the truth.

It was extremely challenging for me and I was in bed for a couple of days after, but it was worth it! 😃

Wow, those tours are something else. Based on your videos I’m guessing someone that is claustrophobic or afraid of heights may not enjoy these tours. That’s for positing.

Anasazi Indians. Loved your video. We love Mesa Verde. And million dollar highway. You need to go back for that.

We've been to Mesa Verde 4 times over the years. The last trip was a coupe of years ago, and I finally was able to see the reason for the name (Mesa Verde), due to the large amount of rain that CO had that year. It was a Green Table, indeed. We also saw wild horses running near Wetherill Mesa. There are a large number of self-guided tours/walks that you can make on the top of the Mesa. Pit houses (precursor to cliff dwellings), signal towers, villages of the Anasazi people. There is a cultural center in Cortez that puts on shows and dancing demonstrations, and a Cultural Museum closer to Delores. There are a couple of amazing Trading posts that have a huge selection of authentic Native American jewelry. Tara, I have been snowed on in every month in Colorado - just so you know, it is the nature of the state.

Happy New Year and welcome to the new decade. I have been on the road so haven’t been able to keep up with you guys. You would be proud of me - we just went to Minnesota from Texas by way of North Carolina. Haha. Straight lines are boring. We must explore many places while we can!! Thanks for another great video.

Being a steam locomotive affectionado, I setup the RV in the Durango area and Mesa Verde was a side trip we took one day. We did ride the train to Silverton. I got to know the engineer and the fireman on the the locomotive that pulled our train and then got to take a tour of the shops. I then got to know the steam fitters and when they saw that I knew a lot about it, I got to crawl in the boiler of one that was getting new tubes and then the smoke box. The million dollar drive to Ouray and then to Silverton is fantastic. It would be even better on your motorcycle!! Dearly loved that trip!!!
