Maddie and Mackenzie both didn’t want to stay on the team anymore and with Maddie having different jobs now, they were more stressed out. They both had a say and the producers just made it that it seemed like Mackenzie didn’t know what was happening, for the show.

Just so everyone knows: Kenzie was telling Melissa how she wanted to leave for a while before this so, although it wasn’t set in stone until now, it wasn’t a complete surprise for Kenzie. So for everyone saying that Kenzie should’ve known before this, she kind of did. It’s not like she had absolutely no say in this whatsoever, it’s what she wanted.

They just didn’t know when and if they would leave. Melissa had to contact her attorney about the contract etc. So no, she didn’t know they were leaving but Melissa knew that Kenzie and Maddie both wanted to.

For the people being mad about Mackenzie not knowing: both Maddie and Mackenzie wanted to leave the show when they did. They did take mackenzies choices in for a count of course. They probably just didn’t tell her because she might have accidentally spilled the secret beforehand if she would’ve known.

Of course, this was one of the saddest moments on the show.
But I do have one thing to wonder about.
Only Melissa and Maddie knew that they were going to leave the team. Kenzie was completely out of the loop. They made the decision together, without her. And I don't think that's fair. Of course Maddie was getting all sorts of opportunities, and Kenzie had a lot more opportunities after she quit the show. But she at least deserved to know that she was leaving, like Maddie did. When you do something for so much of your life, it's very difficult to process it getting taken away from you. Maybe Melissa thought Kenzie would react to it poorly and beg to stay with one of the other girls or something of the sort; but either way Kenzie should have known.
It almost makes me think that Maddie was the only one who was offered opportunities off the team, so Maddie was the only one leaving to get more opportunities and Kenzie was just leaving because she had to follow her mother and sister.

Mackenzie was younger and didn't get a say. Melissa said one of the big things that made her leave was privacy. It's hard to get an 11 year old to understand that when most kids don't get self disclosure until about 13 or 14. Plus Melissa can't just go and leave MAckenzie there. Or send Maddie home. She wants to be with both her kids. Plus she has a husband and stepkids too that she needs to think of. Probably should have told her in the morning but maybe she was scared she would tell Abby herself before Melissa did-and Melissa should be the one to tell Abby.
I feel like they both made the decision for kenzie tbh. Because they didnt like how she was treated by abby
I think it was also possibly a legal issue why they left? Abby said something about an attorney. And there was a lot of rumors at the time of this airing there was some legal stuff wth whatever.
