I'm not going to lie, "crazy situation happening here" 50 minutes after the Slava Ukraini tweet is one of the most hilarious things I've seen all year lmaooo
the funniest thing about this is russian orgs being mad at support for ukraine, but still ok with participating in tournaments sponsored by US AIR FUCKING FORCE

A fellow Finnish fan here: For sure, Finnish people in general are "programmed" to not like Russians. That is quite reasonable when looking at the history of events. But to be real this was more a thing for older people. I am 30+ and our generation and younger had started already move past that history to some extent. There were a lot of business done with Russians and everything had been fine for a long time. But the trust was completely broken over night when Russia decided to invade Ukraine. Also there has been enough ridiculous bullshit from Russia against Finland during this time. The programming has started pretty much all over again.
Same a Swede. Older people (my dad included) will never forget the cold war and U-137. The dislike towards russia started to fade from the younger generation during the 2010's. Then when Russia invaded Ukraine that all disappeared and we are back to disliking russia
What a mess this situation :D You touched on the finnish fans being very negative towards russian athletes and as a finnish fan Im glad you brought it up because it isn't talked about enough. The reason a lot of finnish cs fans demand actions is because they have to go through military service. Six months or up to a year lost of your life because of an agressive neighbouring country is going to cause a lot of resentment. Russia uses sports for propaganda purposes and this is why representing a russian organisation is seen by a lot of people as a statement in and of itself. Things arent black and white and it is good to have videos like this to show the other side of the story. What isn't talked about enough is that demanding actions is going to get the russian athlete in massive trouble in their homecountry and moving elsewhere isn't easy either. Even if you were prepared to leave your home and family behind, you would most likely be homeless because even getting a bank account in another country would take at least some months. Also a personal observation as a young finnish man myself is that most of the finnish cs fans are probably just straight up racist. Finnish young guys voting habits show this pretty well. All I can say is that there needs to be some conversation about these things and thanks for Smooya for starting one up :D Keep up the good work!
It's probably because of Karelia? As Russian I was never even in the slightest way tried to be "programmed" against Finnish people. I literally grew up while being a fan of Kimi Raikkonen.
@@nullchannnel Yes history plays a large part in this. Imperial Russia staged a coup and messed with our constitution, Soviets waged war with us and after that decided who we were allowed to be allied with and even who our president was. Even today we experience gps jamming, air space violations, pipelines bursting under the Baltic Sea and even immigrants being pushed to the border to try and emulate the Polish-Belarusian border crisis from 2021. As examples of the "programming", recently russian propagandists, a museum and even a school history book has blamed Finland for the start of the winter war. The "programming" is happening and if you can't see it you need to pay more attention.
@@nullchannnel Small irrelevant countries have an inferiority complex. I am from the Czech Republic and it's the same here. Interestingly the Finns are taught a very revisionist version of history. They will even deny that they allied with Hitler and engaged in a genocide of the Russian people via their blockade of Leningrad. None of that ever happened in their version of history.
Thanks for your thoughts in the beginning. Exactly where I m standing. Certain other conflicts in other regions of the world are also not nearly as black and white as the mainstream wants you make to think.

It’s strange rhat this happens in the same esports where you have one of the top teams that has both ukrainians and russian players lol (spirit have zontix)
Even without that war stuff, it's pretty stupid to say something that does really look like you were intentionally throwing. Imagine Astralis vs Heroic matchup and the one player of the losers team tweets under another team's winning tweet "%team% is the goat" or smth like that. It may sound nice, but not in that circumstances you know. Something neutral like simple "GG" fits much better and it's nice too.
Any real journalist should know to research thoroughly both sides of the argument. People who are pro Ukraine have no idea what they are actually supporting. Its very dark stuff.
Thank you for the video, Richard. Hilarious! I don’t comment much usually, but decided to just share some information. First of all, you are not going to prison if you showing support for Ukrainian civilians, nor it is prohibited to do so (unless we are talking about donating to Ukrainian army). I do not want to trigger people much, and will not further elaborate on this topic. As for the “Slava Ukraine” thingy, initially this was a greetings/salute for УПА (Ukrainian Insurgence Army) as well as later for УНА УНСО (Ukrainian National Assembly - Ukrainian People's Self-Defence), if you are wish about those organizations, you can find more information. As per Russian law, those organizations are in fact terrorists and extremist, so it is prohibited to spread a word about them glorifying and/or using this greetings/salute. Hopefully, I was able to appropriately share my few cents. Eagerly waiting for the next video, all the best :)
you made a comment about not going to prison in America for protest, but a lot of the people who were students at those universities actually did get arrested for that protest. People getting arrested at peaceful protests is becoming increasingly more common Obviously not saudi lvls of corruption but it's not 100% true either.
They were largely arrested and released. Also few, if any, were arrested for protesting. They were largely arrested for other things. Prison is also different to jail. I know of no one in the US who was put in prison for protesting on US college campuses. A "peaceful protest" is not occupying a private space, loudly, and refusing to move unless an organisation gives up money and makes compelled speech, condemning something that they may not have an issue with. Was the response perfect? No. Though it also seems not to have been what you imply.
He's been hanging with Destiny a lot lately, he calls them Hamas supporters as well. He also cant go ten minutes without mentioning Hasan. You can tell his personal loyalties are skewing his perspective on whats going on at those campuses.
> did get arrested for that protest They were not arrested for protesting. They were arrested for either being in privately owned buildings they weren't supposed to be in or building supposedly autonymous communities on land they didn't own. Despite that and the basis for their protests being rooted in antisemitism they were tolerated for weeks and given fair warning to move away before police were deployed. I've yet to hear of any charges against any student.
I spent two days with Steven and went on two podcasts. I was saying that they're Hamas supporters - because they are - and antisemites - because they are - long before that so you'll have to update your fan fiction.
@@RLewisReports Hi Richard, i'm largely out of the loop on the topic of protests in the US, were those protests anti-Semitic or anti-Israel being a genocidal state? Because I can support only one of those. Not a supporter of either side in this conflict so I'm curious how the Americans chose to turn on their Greatest Ally™
I don’t think that was Richard’s point, leaving aside the histories of both nations where that has happened, albeit not recently. His point was as he said it’s either we double down on everyone based on the actions of their governments or we don’t and let esports be as communal and detached from the horrors of the world as it can be. There’s no middle ground or exceptions possible - it would be too complex and divisive.
