- Come explore the interesting city of Derinkuyu in Turkey
The Underground City is a collection of rock-cut chambers and tunnels, carved out of the rock beneath Erciyes Dagi Mountain in Kayseri Province, Turkey. The city is located about 40 meters below surface level and is approximately 4 kilometers long.
The Underground City was discovered by accident in 1958 when a local man named Halet Çambel stumbled across the entrance while looking for new pastures for his cows.
It was built by Christians during the Byzantine era to escape persecution from the Roman Empire.
In this documentary, viewers will learn about the history of this underground city and how it became one of the world's most important archaeological sites. They will also be shown what has been uncovered at Derinkuyu so far and what still remains to be discovered.

Happy Hanukkah to EVERYONE. May God’s Holy Light shine upon us ALL!

Did he say that one door connected to another underground city 10 kilometers away??
Yes there are something like three or four 'underground' cities that are connected together.

Is this an actual tour guide, or like usual in Turkey, a random guy walking around with you that wants a tip afterwards?
Why do all of the floors sound like they are not stone or ground? The foot steps sound odd.
We're the people that lived there short?
This is like an ancient doomsday bunker on a much larger scale.
Definitely
Ancient, future, ancient again and future again.....who can really say for sure?
I'm sure it was a totally different experience actually trying to use these tunnels with basically just lamps for light.
I'm curious to know how long it must have taken to carve out these tunnels and where the rubble from them were deposited. Also thinking there must have been a lot of sickness from lack of sun. And where are these people's skeletons? So many questions. Thank you for the tour! Would love to experience this some day.
Greets! Did some mapping for Turkey after the earthquake ...just want to know the situation in Derinkuyu .Thanks, Autre
Hi, I live in a close city to Cappadocia. Do not worry. the earthquake did not affect this area. This area is very solid it stands up to maybe 12000 years. Nobody knows exactly when these underground cities builted
@@GeneFact Great to know that the place is not affected ! Sorry didnt realize you replied.Take Care, Autre
Alright. Well let's get some plaster or Sheetrock, or some clay up in there or sump'm. Have a paint party or two or a hundred. Get a contract with IKEA to furnish the joint. We'll do it nice!
;) that would be quite the transformation, don't think it would last another 100+ years.
What are those floors made of? The sound of feet sound odd.
Intersting !
The only way that one could winkle the inhabitants out of there would be by siege, in those narrow passages armour and numbers count for zero...🤔
Definitely
So nice video congratulations
Living underground in 21st century must be hell, no internet
Has this underground area been damaged by the recent earthquakes in this region?
Türkiye is a big country earthquake happened in another region
This is definitely an alien abandoned home
8:52 Anyone else get raquetball court vibes when overlooking into that square-ish blue-lit room? lol
They also had fridges😮, what?
I wonder what happened to the Christian people in Turkey.
I wonder what happened to the jews in other christian countries
And to Muslims in Spain
The Ottomans mixed them with Turks and made them Muslims. Most of us have Greek 🧬 and Turkish 🧬. However, these people hid from the Roman Empire.
@@ilknur3291 do u know what S T F U means
Did you charge a guide fee?
There is a space called the winery, but they put the grapes in a big depression in the sandstone or limestone and stepped in it?
The ceilings are not high enough to stomp grapes in. It's usually dark, and the smoke from the torches would kill you. A candle would work, but it's dark, dark, dark.
Change filter and black light!
Truly like an 8th wonder of the World
Ventilation right off the bat
Indeed
They were hiding from more than soldiers.
What do you mean? 😧 Aliens?

Peww, I bet it got pretty stinky down there!
Do they know the name of the Roman Emperor who ruled during the time they were in hiding?
As far as we are aware, unfortunately no one knows the name of the Roman Emperor who ruled during the time Derinkuyu was used as a place of refuge.
You got caught up in the chancers at the door. Damn.
Claustrophobic overload 😂
Def not for someone who can’t be in tight spaces
Roots system of giant trees
It said in the beginning that it was created many years before Christ yet it was made by the Christians? How is that possible?
I cant imagine how they dig that tunnel and how many years it takes to dig such, i dont even want to imagine it. Id say its God's work
Pretty crazy work for sure
Looks alien to me 👽
Haha, it does a bit!
I recorded this 6 miles long tunnel to Kaymakli!?
Did u have to pay him for this recorded visit?
They were hiding from the Giant ........ ( from the bible).........
From the Nephilim
🤣 This was built in Roman period. Christians were hiding from the Roman Empire
Lol 😂
How were there Christians before Christ?
Christ the philosophy
They were Jews
After Jesus Jews and Christians were still very similar and prayed in the same building
it shows turkey was christian population but by force convert in islam..or killed
No, it shows Turkey and İslam was very tolerant and respectful to every culture and religion.because, although they belong to hundreds of years ago, they did not damage any structures. Maybe they admired this religion of tolerance and respect and then they changed their religion☺️💐
@@gamzedemirci5228 you has forgotten 1915 armenian genocide and atoman empire
Yes. Christians are now minority in Turkey, Iraq and Syria. Very sad thing to see.
@@allahdebande Armenians rebelled, they started to kill Turks and they were exiled, there were people who lost their lives during the exile.
Turkey are made of christian lands of Armenia and Greek. The Turkish people were invaders from Turkmenistan area. After conquering Byzantium christians, they do islamization by forcing jizya, took over or destroyed 2000 churches and took the people as slaves. Wars are never good.
Armenian genocide happened because the turks were afraid Armenians wanted to declare independence. All major tourist attractions in Turkey now were Christians sites. Hagia Sophia, Konstantinopel, Cappadocia, Derinkuyu, Ephesus, Symrna (Izmir now), etc. Hopefully they took care of them.
This site is amazing but the history is a lie
The history is unknown. Speculation mixed with varafiable evidence from l8r occupations is not a lie it's a working hypothesis. What level of Bu++×÷it you choose to attribute may well be correct. We just do not know. 🕊♾
Fact
@@dermotmccorkell663 The history is probably always off because it's always one sided but aside from this it is puzzling to me how scholars so conveniently skip over the consequences of lack of sunlight. Why is it for example that to this day white people do not need the same amount of sun exposure as a dark person would to absorb the same amount of vitamin D? Why do we not find any frozen white people past 12,000 years ago? How exactly is it that Cheddar man from 12,000 years ago is a dark man but has living relatives today in the same area he was found frozen that are white? I suggest it is because the people that originally built these underground refuges from the UK to the edge of the ice sheets south to Italy and beyond were all dark skinned when they went into their refuges. The lack of vitamin D and the need to gain it from what they ate as well as perhaps sharing space with other hominids that introduced genes that were not there before brought RH negative blood, blond and red hair, blue and green eyes and whiter skin color! The only other hominid to have RH negative blood is Cro-Magnon. Interestingly enough white people all came from this area that was once covered in ice. So what happpens when a dark people go into underground bunkers and have to stay there for prolonged periods of time? What changed the people from this area of the world to exhibit different blood, different skin color as well as eye and hair? All of these things are known mutations in the human genome. So what sparked it if not the underground living? What other plausible theory covers it all this well? Give me just one!
@@troytaylor9228 something I never thought about. I thought at one point you were going on a racist rant thankfully not. It's a plausible theory.
@@dermotmccorkell663 Why history is unknown? The ancient people lived there for thousands of years, the name before the name today was Malakopea (Greek: Μαλακοπέα), maybe there was even an older name, the Greek historian Xenophon from 5th cent. BC wrote about this.
Exanima?
This tour guide is irritating
lol
Christian monks and Church 1000 years before Christ? 😅
Wonderful… but Christianity pushed their way into all countries… just like Canadian Christianity pushed their way into aboriginal communities… it’s kinda sad, if you ask me. Turkey had their own religion… and Christianity conquered them… 😢😢😢😢. But, cool video
Dude you’re out of breath from a few stairs? Wtf
Your lady is fine bud.😊
Bible - JUDGES 6.2 the children of Israel made them the dens which are in the mountains ,and caves ,and strong holds.(You reveal this now.but bible revealed this 5oooyears ago, this is not a marvel to bible readers.you don't like to accept the bible revelation .you run after fools to see marvels.read the bible .everything is in there .
So the children of Israel walked all the way to Turkey to make themselves dens to hide from the Midianites? Especially when there’s a whole mountain ridge they could be using which separates Israel and Jordan. Bible people always tryna make anything fit. People been living and hiding in mountains since the beginning of existence
That name was named by an albanian I belive (Deri ne ku ju). that means ,,As far as you" until where you ? and it fits with the project
Very interesting
