Today, courtesy of Simon George @DriversKeepers I get to experience the coolest car from the back of EVO Magazine - the now almost 300,000 mile orange Lamborghini Murcielago. Having been driven by over 8,000 people, crashed multiple times and with barely any original panels remaining, this is the Trigger's Broom of Lamborghinis - but what's it actually like to drive?

Owning it from new is a flex.
The mileage is a flex
Owning it from new and keeping it with almost 300'000 miles (and the bills that come with that) is the sign of a true car enthusiast.👍
This is my dream. Buy a supercar from new and keep it perfect forever!
I bet 200k on maintenance
@@curtisducati new engines gearboxes panels. Not much left of the original car I would imagine
Having money to own one is a flex.

I like to see how long it takes for James to mention he owns three Ferrari(s) - usually takes about 3 minutes.
One minute per Ferrari own

Don't forget the Aston's. Do you own a car that normal people drive?
Probably not - I don't think a Citroen BX is a normal person's car anymore. Or an MG

It was a pleasure to meet you when we bought the Murcielago down for you to drive and what a great video you made as a result. 😃 Let's hope for better weather next time!
Brought
Wow, mileage has to be appreciated - this car has been driven!
Even the brief summary of its history makes it sound like the Ship of Theseus version of a Murce...
Triggers broom!
The best Lamborghini ever in my opinion. My grandad got me a model of a yellow SV when I was a kid and I'll never forget it, I still have the model
Best in performance, driving experience, looks, sound or all of the above?
@nikpapado9785 Looks, sound and character for me. The Aventador is too high pitched for my taste, it will obviosuly be a better performing car and easier to drive but doesn't quite scratch the same itch for me
It’s a masterpiece of art in industrial design. It has what it needs to convey exactly what it is, no more no less. Everything after it is a mess of random shapes and lines that go nowhere.
That engine noise behind you as you stab the loud pedal never gets old.
This car feels like an old friend, it's been a pleasure following Simon and the ownership of this car over the years.
I remember it well from Evo days, to even get to see it is a treat - and driving it was amazing!
I too remember The Orange Lam from EVO days. I remember sweating at the Running costs, Simon was spending ( and I wasn't paying). Then it was crashed and I thought thought that's it but fair play he had it rebuilt and still looks after it, even with All the Big Bills👏👏👏
I’m one of the 8,000 who have driven this very car at a sixth gear experience day. At the time it was one of the most exciting days of my whole life, even after suffering the embarrassment of crunching the gears on the way out.
IF it makes you feel better I did the same!
@@JayEmmOnCars The fact it could happen to a professional such as yourself, does make me feel a bit better, thank you. Keep up the great work, love your content.
@@RandyRodgirth you are partially responsible for this car needing a new gearbox 😂 you contributed to the legendary status of this car is what I'm saying lol
I remember this car well. It's crashes, its engine, it's endless gearbox, suspension, brake, body rebuilds... Triggers broom springs to mind. 😂

This really is “Driven not Hidden” ! 👍
Listening to that v12 sing high up the revs is something to behold. Absolutely gorgeous sound track
Agree❤
Oooooh the Murcielago. This and Diablo were the V12 Lamborghinis of my formative years, and they are rare here in Indonesia. So seeing one is always a special occasion. My dream Murc has got to be a manual LP640 in Giallo Orion or Verde Draco (like the e-Gear unit Jeremy drove in TopGear back in 2007). Would not kick an early 6.2 out of the bed, though...
Also, that Murcielago 40th Anniversary Edition was all finished in a turquoise-blue-green shade called Verde Artemis. It's stunning to look at.
Bagus!
Used to see a couple in Jakarta when I worked there, and when in Singapore the Sunday morning gathering of exotic cars outside Hilton on orchard. Happy days.
Verde Draco is my all time favourite Lamborghini colours
Oh my, when you opened the taps a bit on that V12, the only thing that came to mind was the opening scene of The Cannonball Run! Nice one James!👍👏👏👏❤️
Iconic sound an opening that
Don’t forget the opening scene from the 1969 movie “The Italian Job” when a stunning Miura is revved. My grandfather owned a 1972 Miura SV and the sound of that magnificent engine and exhaust is something I will remember forever.
eagle hunters engine simulator flat 12 sound on youtube
@@Mike-rk8pxThat is so cool 👌
I paid for the whole odometer, I would use the whole odometer.
This is pinnacle Lamborghini - an early Murcielago. Sadly it’s lost its original tail lights, but still. I’m glad James feels the same about the early ones being the best.
Absolutely beautiful with perfect flowing lines and not too many pointy edges. Losing a point here for having the ‘wings’ up which spoil the lines. The sound of the Murcielago is the best of any road car, ever. The race car sounds even better.
The murcielago has such a beautiful, clean, and cool look. Really great design on the body of it. I dont care about speed, gears or engines, but that’s a car i’d want purley for the sick exterior.
Trigger's Vroom - 10/10 !! 😀
This is inspirational. I was feeling a little bit anxious about my car hitting 100,000k mile and being an apprehensive about the resale, market fit, blah, blah, blah. At the end of the day, cars are not (usually) assets, they are there to be used and have fun with, so just enjoy it for what it is and be happy.
I absolutely love to see cars like this with high miles. It's so great to see them being used properly. It warms the cockles of my cold cold heart.
I enjoyed how much you enjoyed this car, James. Great video.
Seem to recall paying £40 or so for a lap in this car at Bruntingthorp. That’s some mileage!
On a far more humble scale, I can relate to the joy of a high mileage car that's yours and not worth selling because no one would buy it. My 220,000 E39 is tidy and fun to drive, I love it and hope I never have to sell it - for peanuts. Thanks for the video too, what a fabulous analogue beast the manual Murcielago is.
It’s probably the nostalgia talking, but this might be my favourite car design ever. It’s just completely mental like a big Lamborghini should be
Like you, when I received my subscription EVO magazine, the first thing I looked for was if this car featured 🙂 I particularly remember reading the article about its running costs, and that was at a significantly lower mileage, but also weeped when it was last crashed, and then rejoiced that Simon was going to rebuild it! I look forward to your future video detailing the latest running costs 👍 I suspect the total will need a good deal of man-maths to justify 😂
James has a wonderful presentation manner, so easy to listen.
OMG i remember reading about this car in EVO they had just got it back on the road when it had that smash....i think i cried myself to sleep that night !!!!
Brilliant thanks
Thank you so much I very much enjoy ur content and some of the other channels you have recommended
First Lamborghini I really got interested in. They sound so so so good.
Great video, as always. Following you from the island of Malta.
Fantastic video. I still remember one pulling up to me at the lights in around 2006. The only time Ive seen one apart from car shows more recently. I still remember the burble of the engine, but mostly the noise from its cooling fans...and that was in a Manchester climate. Id love one, apart from the running costs.
Simplify Brilliant!!! I Love Sixties Lamborghinis Especially The 350GT, But This Murcielago is Powerfully Charming!!!!
This car is a prime example of why shying away from adding miles is so stupid. Pretty much any car will last you hundereds upon hundreds of thousands of miles with proper maintenance.
By "proper" maintenance, I think you mean very expensive. Sure, any car will last hundreds of thousands of miles.
@@albanana683 I never said it was gonna be cheap. People have this weird misconception that cars have a shelf life, usually at a certain mileage, when that just isn't true.
Except when it’s German then it’s comparable to plugging a aquarium with tape
@@tyler9703think that defeats the point. If it wasn’t for the money a lot of people wouldn’t shy away from doing such a thing
@@albanana683 dude the people that buy them new can easily afford it lol, a car is a car
So good to have a update on this amazing car, like you use to read about it in evo and I even saw it on the driving experience day, did not drive it as I was in a atom
Awesome grew up following this car!
The styling is so outrageous, but enough about Jay's shirt
My formative car years were spent reading about this Murci in Evo...so awesome you got to drive it!
Noisy and Orange, perfect Lambo. Thanks for this great video. Smiles all round.
Spooky! I was recently trying to wrack my brain to remember the company that I did a driving experience in a black Aston Martin DBS about 13 years ago with (it was a 40th birthday gift). Then, this morning, I was reading an old copy of Vantage (the brilliant Aston Martin magazine) and there, hey presto, was an article on that very car and input from Simon George. For some reason, despite reading Evo back in the day and following the exploits of this Lambo, I never put Simon and 6th Gear together! And now you bring us a video of the Lambo! I'd love to know if the DBS is still with him, or what happened to it. Somewhere I've got the photos of me driving it, but as an Aston Martin lover, that was a day I'll never forget!
Another excellent episode.I still think it looks quite futuristic the car sound amazing🤩
I've been following this car since it first appeared in EVO. Great to see it. Fantastic
Awesome. This is how all supercars/classics need to be enjoyed. At the point where major parts are being renewed and replaced and when maintenance is kept up, the question of miles is irrelevant.
So £60-£80k have been spent just on clutches. Love it
Having been born in the mid- to late 90s, I've always held Murciélago in the highest regard among Lamborghinis. It was my 'formative' Lambo, and by this point, I can appreciate it all the more as a wedge of sorts in Lamborghini's history: it pioneers this styling language and is the final V12 Lambo with a manual, while also being the last bastion of the Bizzarrini V12.
The SV has to be my favorite incarnation; specifically, with the ducktail spoiler. I love this model in its entirety, though, even the Roadster with its hilariously silly softtop.
Great video James. Awesome car! 😎👍
0:10 Ooooh, that glorious sound!
So far away from anything I am remotely interested in yet I still watch and enjoy . Ta muchly.
What an incredible car! I literally thought that such high mileage would be physically impossible in a Lamborghini? I thought that would be very much akin to Triggers Broom (its the same Lambo but its just had new bumpers and an exhaust and suspension and wheels n tyres and a new gearbox and engine and front wings and rear wings and windscreen n roof and chassis and....and....etc) and be as far from its origins as its possible to get. Id still have this stunning car in a hearbeat! The owner is literally the ULTIMATE Lambo owner, there can't be another owner in the WORLD thats put as many miles on their car as this LEGEND!!!
What a car, what a noise, what a colour, wow. Love the click clacking of its manual gearbox . Thank you for sharing it - the Murcielago is an astonishing creation
by Lamborghini. If I were lucky enough on EuroMillions lotto it's on the list to own.
Good ol' SG54 LAM! Actually moved seeing it again, EVO reader since -02. And it's live and kickin' ❣️ Hats off to you Simon 🎩
Such an amazing car and the fact that it’s been and still is properly used is perfection to me. I hope it sees 500k, 750k, 1Mil+ miles eventually! Every mile is testimony to fun having been had in a car of this calibre. 👏
Two different engines, countless replacement parts - it should be nicknamed 'Triggers Broom'..!!!!
What a machine and fond memories of the Evo diaries, rhe angry neighbours and the repeated crunch of door mirrors. Proper hero car and what a way to burn through 20,000 gallons of dino juice!
Listening to James talking about the zero-warning snappiness of the Murcielago makes me think of my favourite Clarksonism; sitting the pub with an axe murderer; everything seems fine but you're always aware that any moment they might stand up and stick an axe in your head.
Manual V12, that looks and sounds as good as that. Job done!
Amazing, one of my favorites!
Aaaahhh, triggers new broom! It still features occasionally in the magazine, always really love knowing it’s still doing the rounds! Lasy update I’d seen, it’d just had a bit more TLC.
What a machine I enjoyed that
I also recall this from evo which I last read about 12 years ago
Even when not going crazy fast, the sheer noise this car makes is so, so intoxicating! You can almost feel it vibrating though your body, which I know it does do in reality. Absolutely stunning car and a very cool story with this one. I'm not sure if I'm alone but I actually think the original Murciélago was the best, and the best looking, Murciélago.
Glad to see that Jay has visited Stewart The Wig Winder 😊
This and the diablo are my dream supercars, weirdly for me as im more of a track car guy. A black diablo drove past me the other day, reminded me how much i love them.
The perfect supercar for the road! Hopefully i'll get to drive one some day
Ohhh what a treat ! Sure I remember it from Evo days ! ❤
I have photo's of this car when Simon took it down to LeMans in 2005, a blast from the past for me :)
Simon was even nice enough to let my nephew sit in it at the time. Nice Chap :)
Trigger's Broom!!😂😂😂
It's all about the smiles in life, nothing else matters!
19:45 you slowed down for a cyclist. Excellent.
That's what Saddam Hussein used to say
The mid to late 00's were my formative years, and I really love cars from that era. It was the era of V10 M5s and RS6s, W12 VWs, E63 AMGs, and a time when the manual supercar wasn't a near extinct species. I also love how cars from that era look, from things like the Ford Fiesta and VW Polo, all the way to the Enzo Ferrari, or this car. It's definetely my favourite "modern" (if I can even call it that lol) Lambo, although I prefer them in yellow, or that light green color. Unfortunately, I'm not in the market for one, right now as a fresh uni graduate, I'm more in the market for a Mondeo, or Passat of the era lol.
Late 90's and 2000's were peak of the combustion engine in my opinion still drivers cars and also all the comforts and driveabilitie you need.
The man is talking about the ride and the suspension and the Nitron’s and so on… and BIG thunk from a pothole or whatever, and he goes: HWOUuuuuu!… 🤣
That appears to be the 'Trigger's Broom' of super cars 😏
The Murcielago is a lovely car, a real head turner then and now. Not everyones fave colour for car, but burnt orange is a signature Lambo colour IMO and I love it not only for it’s beautiful fiery look, but because it evokes strong childhood memories of early 70 Lambos.
I thought my 1988 Alfa Romeo Milano.. or for the other parts of the world '75' with just over 200K was a lot for an Italian car! Great video as always!
Worth the money for the sound 🎵🎵the engine makes 😍
Gated manual ..
V12 naturally..
Cars should be driven
Oh nice shirt sir..!!
My absolute favourite Lambo ever! Great video Jay 👍🏻
Oh crap! I’ve driven that car. Didn’t even realise until you mention 6th gear. Drove it at Elvington. It was in the outlet at York. Drove the Gallardo too.
26 year old me presumed it was some mega millionaire who bought all the cars, had no idea it was a gamble, makes me respect him even more.
I went there later and drove a 458, had a passenger lap in a Radical that was apparently the owners race car. If it’s the same driver he’s fantastic.
Elvington? Ellington is near Ripon (I've driven Land Rovers there)
@@jamesbrett6518apologies, yes Elvington near York (just edited it). The place where Hammond crashed.
I recognised the number plate from EVO as soon as I saw it! I drove 6th Gear's white LP640 on a track day experience. It was the e-gear as I recall, but remains the best supercar I have ever driven. What a machine.
Cars that are actually used are the best thing ever, and also, cars that you are not afraid of putting miles on are THE BEST. 🔥
The drive-by into opening theme transition was flawless.
When I read that mileage I instantly assumed track experience car.
I drove a Murcielago myself some years ago. It was not as handsome, being flat yellow rather than this lovely orange.
Was a nice few laps anyway
2 great points at 20:27 : A smile on your own face. As well as having others enjoy it to, even by just driving by.
Original EVO reader checking in. Wow this is a very special beast. Love that it's seen proper miles. Immediate sub to their channel.
Older sports cars need a manual transmission.
This is an example of why. 😮😊😅
the design is so timeless wow what a beautiful Bull
I remember the Evo Triangle road and also Harry Metcalfe as he was the editor now famous CZcams personality , The Lamborghini Murcielago i remember from NFS Hot Pursuit 3 on the old PS2 great game from a good era the early 00s
I remember seeing this car at Knockhill at a Lamborghini day when it must have been fairly new. The first shape TT was still for sale. I’ve probably got the EVO magazines it featured in too, it hit a tree once I recall.
Smiled all the way through that, what a car. Buy one.
Question:- Does James care for his own health as fully as his motor vehicles? Has he been for a full body MOT? We don’t wish to lose him to an increasing BMI. 🙏

Never thought I would have seen a Lambo with that mileage in my lifetime! kudos to the owner, plus really like the worn scuffed accelerator pedal!
What a machine - love the colour too! 😎
This Lamborghini has been to the moon, hope it gets back too!
Well if Simon ever needs anyone to get it 500,000mi, I'm always happy to help 😊😂
Personal opinion, but i think many would agree. i nominate thee for Top Gear vs those boring people they have now 🤣 absolutely adore the channel, excellent content!
I recall being at Oulton Park in either October 04 or 05. Simon had taken a friend out in it and when he returned he’d got out and left the keys in the ignition with the engine running.
It locked itself.
We all kept warm stood by that enormous V12 waiting for the AA to turn up.
Always a good vid. I’ve noticed how much more accentuated and animated your voice and hand gestures have become over the years James. Not a criticism.
This with a roadster version straight piped...dream car.
This! This is the GOAT!
I just might have been the person who sold this car.
the complete opposite of the modern iPhone on 4 wheels, fantastic
Winter, maybe still autumn of 2005 or 2006… I found one parked in a place I was frequently going through. Bad light conditions (evening, yellow street lamps…) but I had to take two shots on CIF (352x240px) camera in Siemens C65 (in which I had Asphalt Urban GT…).
God havent seen this for years, cant believe its still going, what a unit
One of my dream cars a Lamborghini Murciélago with a 6 speed manual transmission in orange or black color
An awesome car, a Legend from the pages of evo… albeit a bit of a Trigger’s broom!
