  • Bought this atv used and had a loud grinding noise from transmission when rolling the 4 wheeler around in my garage. The transmission bearings were corroded and needed to be replaced. I assume the prior owner used this atv in deep water, the water came into the transmission through the breather hose and the owner failed to change the transmission oil. The water sat in the transmission and corroded the bearings and the shafts / gears. I was able to clean all the gears but had to replace the bearings.

Hi I have yfz50 mines doing the exact same thing/scraping. Atv was sat in storage from last summer got it out 3 weeks ago and this was happening I took cvt (left side) clutch housing case of to find a lot of stone mud and dust and my secondary sheave (drive) clutch as got a lot of play will this be the scraping noise? Ur video got me thinking all bearings it only happens wen quad is pushed or drove. Any answers will be appreciated

Try draining the transmission oil, if it contains water than the bearings are probably corroded and will need to be changed.

Awesome video- question, is that oil seal solid rubber? Mine appears to be leaking into the cvt case- the whole inside was soaked in oil and the transmission only drained 200ml when it holds 350. I’m surprised it didn’t get on belt cause it was operating normally. Thanks for the help.

The oil seal is a metal ring covered in rubber

@@antonio0072007 I'm considering buying one of these to pull my pull behind grass cutter, do you think it would do such ok??

It would probably work, the atv can haul me and my boys around together just fine, plenty of power.

Thank you, I ride dirtbikes so I’m no stranger to replacing wheel bearings. This task was very similar.

Why was this like this ? Rusted

My guess is the previous owners drove the atv in water that was above the transmission breather tube, water entered the transmission and they did not drain or change the transmission oil. Water just sat in the transmission and corroded the bearings.
