    You give so much hope to those who want to start bag making but can't afford an industrial machine! Thank you so much for taking time out of your day to teach and show that we can sew amazing quality bags with a domestic machine. 🥰

      Thank you so much for this comment! It means more than you know. I love to help others learn and feel inspired to create. 💙 And I feel ya! Industrial machine won’t be happening for me anytime soon. 😂

      I've just started bag making, while I'd love to have an industrial machine, I don't. I'm able to achieve some pretty great bag designs on my domestic and work horse of a machine vintage 1950s. I don't have any bag making vids on my channel, but with a bit more practice, I'm pretty sure I'll get some up there.

    Awesome job Jules!!! I am making this bag very soon! Will be my first attempt at binding a bag. I have done it on quilts before though, so not too worried... Cheers vintage sewing machine buddy!! :)

    I ran into this tutorial and let me say that I enjoyed it very much. I recently bought this pattern and couldn't find a tutorial that was easy enough to follow until now. Thank you. Now I will begin my new bag project.

    I would LOVE! LOVE! LOVE! a video on your machine and the modern feet you are using. I have a 1917 Western Electric as well as several other machines but nothing I have tried seems to be right so far for bags. My WE (Weezie lol) has been converted to hand crank if necessary with a truckers knob on the fly wheel bc we RV 6 months every year and don't always have electric.

    Beautiful bag! I have two questions, if you can help 😊 are the second set of rivets that show on the exterior slide pocket necessary? Also where do you get double sided tape that looks easy to peel? I’ve given up on the stuff I buy because I can’t peel it!

      @ThatsSewJules  Před 2 lety +1

      This is a 1948, model 15-90. 🥰 I use it for all my bags! So cool you have a 201! I think your machine is even stronger than mine! 🤗

    Thank you for this tutorial. May I ask what thread type & weight are you using and needle size with your Singer. I have a featherweight that I would like to use to make this Catalina bag. Thank you...!

    • @ThatsSewJules
      @ThatsSewJules  Před 2 lety +1

      Of course! I usually use tex 30-32 somewhere in there, polyester thread (my machines favorite is Metler, but this was a diff brand, for the fun rainbow) and I use Denim needles (size 100 to 110).

    Is that just a quilt cotton you used for the lining?

    • @ThatsSewJules
      @ThatsSewJules  Před 2 lety

      It was cotton canvas, but many bags I use quilt cotton, yes

    Do you have to use decoville heavy on the grimy and back panels is there alternative material.

    • @ThatsSewJules
      @ThatsSewJules  Před rokem

      For the structure, I’d say yes. If you have decovil light you can use two layers of dec light and it’s comparable to dec heavy. You could use a different stabilizer altogether, but it won’t have as much structure, is all.

    Question, the gusset isn’t included in the pattern?
