  • Stephen checks in on followers of the QAnon conspiracy, many of whom are camped out in Dallas awaiting the return of JFK (or JFK Jr., we're not really sure). One notable Q fan who isn't in Dallas is Jacob Chansley, also known as the QAnon Shaman, who was sentenced to 41 months in prison for his role in the Jan. 6th attack on the U.S. Capitol. #Colbert #Comedy #Monologue

We've gotten too far from decency and just operating in good faith. Democracy, peace, all getting along kinda depends on everyone agreeing to things that are just basic given truths or facts, when people start to insist something we all know and can see is something else, like insisting the sky is purple when we all know it isn't that is pushing something you know is false and isn't operating in good faith. Otherwise anyone could just insist something is true and despite facts it could be decided by just how loud you yell, how much you repeat it, or how long you refuse to give up that you're wrong. when trump insisted he won and there was all this fraud yet couldn't prove a shred of anything it's kind of like the boy who cried wolf. Except now instead of people ignoring the boy they by now know is full of shit, they are picking up guns and going out killing every wolf they see despite all claims of wolf attacks being a big lie. The wolf is democracy and our voting rights, our ability to choose our leaders. They are trying to take that power. It isn't just in America, that's the goal of far right groups around the world, the whole point is to remove power we the people have to choose our leaders, how our government functions. Not getting off topic from your comment, that is my point. You're dealing with a real life crisis and here people are spreading this nonsense. Not only is it insulting for everyone in the tragedy but it actually causes harm by taking away from it. It's also a situation of is this climate change related, then people come with all these other nonsense theories that distract from the real issue. We need to prepare for these floods, working together to improve infrastructure not spreading ridiculous conspiracy theories. People spread these ridiculous conspiracy theories but there's nutjobs out there who take it seriously and upon themselves. It may seem ridiculous but so is a organized ring of child pornography being run out the basement of a pizza parlor by Bill Clinton. Didn't stop people from showing up there with assault rifles and eventually putting those poor people out of business. It's really up to all of us to know better, to not push BS, research your information and if it seems crazy it probably is! Have decency to play in good faith, no more unsportsmanlike conduct. To abandon fact is to abandon freedom. You submit to tyranny when you renounce the difference between what you want to hear and what is fact.

Be sure to have your own power grid because nothing is more communist than being tied to a communal power grid overseen by a government agency. Also, don't shop for goods, or hire any other skilled labor because those people were educated in communist public schools. Let your trash pile up because trash disposal is most certainly a communist program with a communist agenda. Next time you need a Tylenol make sure you research, create, manufacture the drugs all yourself because those scientists and Doctors most definitely went to college, school, got public funding for research, development, making of drugs, and also funded the labs, grants, books all communism!!!! Do it yourself!Better not use a commercial rifle or bow, make that shit from hand ya pinko commie! Dig the ore and smelt the steel and forge your own knives. Why not? Why rely on communism? I mean shit, this IS a free country. Nobody is forcing you to use all these amazing resources or drive on our roads or go to a library. Nobody forces you to go on welfare or food stamps or even collect social security. If it bothers you then don't fucking do it! How many losers cried about communism then willingly cashed their stimulus checks? Hmmm??? This isn't a communist country, so by all means practice it yourself! You don't like abortion, good for you! Don't use it! You think getting childcare capped or medical costs reduced is communism, then by all means pay full price! I'm pretty sure if you get a bill for $500 and it should have been $2000 you would rather pay $2000 just for the point of not taking a communist hand out? Sure! Pretty sure nobody would stop you! They'll gladly take $1500 more for your pride. Tell your daycare you're happier paying $8k more a child just for the personal label you have not accepted "communist" aid. Whatever! I'm sure they won't complain about an extra $8k in their pockets. Doesn't hurt me at all. Go ahead! Spend another $8k on billboards while at it and advertise how you spent more money just for some petty personal title that means nothing. Your choice! Free country! Go ahead, pay more! We already pay more for crappier health insurance, just so we can say we aren't socialist or anything. Awesome! If you get cancer and can't afford the $200k treatment you can just die. Happens every day! Own it, refuse financial assistance and just die because that is better than anyone thinking you're a communist. Seriously. If you have a major medical incident I doubt about anyone has all cash on hand to cover the massive expenses unless you have communist insurance or accept communist aid to lower the cost or even make payments lol... That's thinking like poor fools anyway, rich people run and do everything on credit. If you have diabetes insulin can cost $500 a month or more. According to people who think this is communism they would rather pay, or have diabetics pay $500+ a month for medicine that would cap at $35. Just for the point that a $6 med should cost $500+ instead of capping it at $35. That is communism? Since when is that communism? Protecting the price gouging of a corporation? By all means, if this "communist" bill lowers healthcare you are always welcome to pay the full non communist price. I'd rather be labeled communist and save $500more a month AND have all the medication needed to survive than be a poor sucker who can't have enough medicine to even be healthy. Who's the sucker? The one who paid $500 more for less, or the ones with more cash in their pockets and all the meds they need? Free country. Now that I called your bluff please return your stimulus checks, shut off your power and water, and go ahead and pay full non communist prices for medical costs, no payment plans, all upfront. You have my blessings and permission. Tell them "no communist discount for me, full price please!". Good luck!!!!!

I happen to believe we should be judged by our character & by our actions; the pigment of our skin should have nothing to do with folks who share our skin color. Do you think all white people believe JFK Jr died and turned Republican? That everyone with brown skin is Mexican or Puerto Rican? That all Native Americans beat drums & wear feathers? That Blacks can't swim? You don't have to be self-loathing to disagree with a group of people who just happen to wear your skin tone, live on your block, or share your last name.

The slave was robbed by his master of all his earnings, above what was required for his bare physical necessities, and the white laboring man was robbed by the slave system, of the just results of his labor, because he was flung into competition with a class of laborers who worked without wages. The slaveholders blinded them to this competition by keeping alive their prejudice against the slaves as men--not against them as slaves."

Thank you for sharing that quote.
"Most persons do not realize how far [the view that common oppression would create interracial solidarity] failed to work in the South, and it failed to work because the theory of race was supplemented by a carefully planned and slowly evolved method, which drove such a wedge between the white and black workers that there probably are not today in the world two groups of workers with practically identical interests who hate and fear each other so deeply and persistently and who are kept so far apart that neither sees anything of common interest.
It must be remembered that the white group of laborers, while they received a low wage, were compensated in part by a sort of public and psychological wage. They were given public deference and titles of courtesy because they were white. They were admitted freely with all classes of white people to public functions, public parks, and the best schools. The police were drawn from their ranks, and the courts, dependent on their votes, treated them with such leniency as to encourage lawlessness. Their vote selected public officials, and while this had small effect upon the economic situation, it had great effect upon their personal treatment and the deference shown them. White schoolhouses were the best in the community, and conspicuously placed, and they cost anywhere from twice to ten times as much per capita as the colored schools. The newspapers specialized on news that flattered the poor whites and almost utterly ignored the Negro except in crime and ridicule."
      -W.E.B Du Bois (Black Reconstruction [1935], 700-701)

And Stephen has an especially strong accent ('Bob' is 'Baaab' and 'Bomb' is 'Baarmb') and is often difficult to follow.
