    Silent hill 2 may be a masterpiece, but SH4 will always be the best one for me, perhaps the fact of the lore, and the way Henry's character is, it clicked with me and my terrible depressive teenage days.
    I love these videos!

      Couldn't agree more. Silent Hill 2 is an amazing game, but Silent Hill 4 is just the perfect masterpiece for me. I also discovered it at my beginning of adolescence, and I think the somewhat different vibe of this game from the rest of the series (the overall more urban setting), and the isolation of one in their own room spiraling into a deep hole of nightmares, speaks a lot for depressed teenagers and especially of the era in which the game was released. The atmosphere of it was something I had never experienced in a game before.

    I just realized how often the halo of the sun is seen around a hole Henry crawls through, which eliminates the center of the symbol. It may not mean anything, or you may have already mentioned it, I'll have to check out your video on the symbol again.

    Thank you Muse for another great video!!
    I love these videos!
    This is a minor point but I noticed that the 'scissors' in one of the mannequin heads (5:01 and 6:32) looks a lot like surgical tongs/forceps (a holding/clamping rather than cutting instrument -still violently used tho!). If so this ties in more closely to the surgical/birth/mother motifs especially since the mannequin looks like it has a pregnant bump which it's cradling with its arms?
    Can't wait for the next symbolism vid :)

  • @MegaBearsFan
    @MegaBearsFan Před 4 lety +3

    I think the SH4 content has been my favorite of your content. It's an underappreciated game, and I think a lot of people focus so much on the gameplay miss-steps and some of the lackluster monster designs, that they fail to recognize (or they dismiss) a lot of the nuance that went into other areas of SH4's design. In the case of the spiral staircase, I think most players just run through it without really stopping to look at the objects that decorate the staircase. Probably because most players think that everything in the staircase is just recycled assets from other parts of the game, even though (as you point out) they are almost all unique.

    It's so crazy to think about how we humans put so much thought into things beyond us even though they have no weight on our physical existence. Gods, monsters, torture, and damnation are things that have no hold outside our grain of sand in time and space. Yet here we are, fantasizing and manifesting our own personalized hells that were made into existence only by our own kind. We are truly a fascinating and lovingly flawed species. x)

    Another great video as always. I love the Silent Hill Symbolism series. If you don't mind, can I give a suggestion for the next episode? I was thinking about an episode about the Butcher from Silent Hill: Origins (I know he's kind of a Pyramid Head look-alike, but I still find him fascinating because unlike Pyramid Head he's a more visceral presence and down right mutilates monsters like Faceless Nurses or Two Backs) or the Holloway family from Silent Hill: Homecoming. Anyways, I wish you the best and I'm looking forward for more.

    Wow this was really good! I never look that far into these things when I play them and always wonder why they leave such a strong lasting impression and memories long after I've played them. I think one of the elements that make the stairwell scary for me was, well for me when I played, Eileen would always make comments and talk the most in the stairwell, Usually you want to start running in the stairwell to get it over with but A SOON as you start running Eileen would say right away, "Don't go to far ahead..." or "Don't leave me alone". Eileen always seemed the most scared in the stairwell and didn't want you to run off or leave her alone there the most out of any level, and I SWEAR she gets possesed faster in the stairwell, It always made me uneasy and want to get through the stairs as fast as I could, actually when I think about it most of the stairwells and stairways in SH4 are scary 🤣 They all have such cool, dynamic, totally extra camera angles. And it really does contrast with how dangerous and violent and plain the water prison stairwell actually is with all the wall monster's and Andrew's ghost and scary music. 👍🏼👍🏼

    It is amazing to me that three mine fires in America ended up in the news because of how horrifice they were and so much pain came from them. This game was made because of these three fires. Every time we play them we remember the dead from these fires. I do feel they the ones who passed like this. "I have always said if people we care for die and we stop remembering them then that is when they truly die!"
    ---For their first real victim, I do not believe she (Alyssa) was. The cult has been in Silent Hill for many, many, Years. I feel she was the first one who ended up hating them for what they did to her and her mother!

      Go on and say it: He’s a tragic monster, and he’s been conflicted, abused, manipulated and traumatized his entire life. It’s hard not to feel sorry for him, but when you cross his path (either directly or indirectly as his 19 other victims were), you have no other alternative but to put him down, PERMANENTLY. It’s natural self-defense against a serial killer like him, but at the same time, based on the info you read on him and his broken childhood, it’s somewhat altruistic that you‘re putting the poor man out of his misery, relieving him of his many sorrows and whatever guilt he had.
