I understand that any game can create nostalgic memories of someone’s childhood. But that’s the thing: ANY game can do that. Sonic 06 is not special, it happened to release at a specific time when you were a child and that’s IT.
Any game can do that, but not for the same reasons. To say nostalgia for a certain game isn’t special is ridiculous, are we going to act like nostalgia for stuff like Ocarina of Time hits the same? It’s so weird to gatekeep what people are fond of in this way. “No, there’s NOTHING special about your game, period!” I didn’t even grow up with the game but I gotta admit the developers went through hell and back, overwork, crunch time, immovable deadlines and a team split in two by Sega. They had a vision for this game, an ambitious one, and it fell flat due to lack of resources and time. But that vision still remains, and can be felt from beneath the rough exterior. This is true for all unpolished art, and 06 is no exception. All art IS special. The nostalgia we have for a piece of art paints a unique hue in our mind that is personal to each individual and different work.
The Silver Campaign was when I realized Lythero had an accent. I kept hearing “gyim” whenever he said “game”, then I rewatched the opening and saw the trip to Ireland
It's okay if you like something that's considered bad. It's okay if you think something bad had the potential to be good. But sometimes you have to come to terms that maybe you just like something that's bad.
Sonic 06 is indeed bad. The load times alone are more than enough to make the game bad... That being said I'll never forget how $#!%^&* POWERFUL I felt putting up my force field as Silver and suspending a hail of incoming bullets in midair only to drop it and watch the bullets clatter onto the ground like I'm freaking Darth Vader or something. Felt so freaking good man.
The game criticism sphere could really benefit from realising this. There are so many arguments I’ve seen online that could easily just be solved by saying “I like it, but it’s not good”

Yeah Sonic 06 was definitely a defining moment for me growing up. It was the first time a Sonic game was a disappointment (but sadly not the last.) The only good things to come out of 06 are Silver, and Project-06
Whole OST of Sonic 06 is still banger, it's definitely one of the best in the entire franchise (ironically in one of the worst games). Shadow as a character was peak in 06 too. Level design was pretty good in this game. And yes, P-06 and Silver is good too. There's some other good things about this game, but I said about the biggest good things about 06.

As a Sonic fan that was a teenager during this time, the same could be said about the vast majority of Sonic games released between 2006 to the present.
Look I unironically like this game (terrible as it is) but I'm not gonna pretend as if the game itself had free will and chose to stick with me through hard times as if the inanimate disc had a choice in the matter.
It is said that if you expose a kid to isolated pieces of media their perception of said media becomes that of the products used. This kid played nothing but Sonic 06, and with the nostalgia his brain is now forcing him to defend it as he is unable now to come with terms with the fact that his childhood was thrash.
This brings back an oddly specific memory of me going to my babysitters house and she asked me if i could help get past a certain part in Sonic 06. It is of course, the Silver boss fight in Sonics campaign, so as the saying goes, it was in fact, NO USE for a dumb kid like me to understand how to beat that fight if she couldn't.
Sonic 06 was there to teach me and my brother the fun of sequence breaking busted games. If i knew about all the funny things you could do in games like pokemon diamond or green it would've been joever for me lol.
Too me. This is one of those it's so bad it's good kind of games. Breaking the game is so fun. The fact the gameplay is so undercooked and the animations are so bad is such a humorous experience
I will agree with anyone who says that specifically the story of Shadow on Sonic 06 is good, and the concept of Iblis Trigger and the future being cathastrophic are interesting, however, everything else is difficult to defend. I do have a certain degree of nostalgia with this game, since this was one of the first games I ever played in my life, but even so, this game is by no means good, and is heavily flawed.
I watched a lot of videos about how those who grew up playing 06 didn't realise its issues. They said things like how, when they were younger, they didn't know any better and thought it was fun. So I whipped out my PS3, booted up my 17 year old copy of 06 and got to playing. *I have no idea how you could find any of this garbage fun.* That was, by far the worst gaming experience I've ever had. Not a single moment did I enjoy that game and it wasn't until I was on call with my mates that I actually had a smile on playing it, but obviously that wasn't because of 06. Anyway yeah, don't listen to people blinded by nostalgia, or do honestly I don't really care.
I unironically enjoy this game (even more than sa2, come at me sa2 fans). As a kid i hated it, but when i got older and went back to it there is so much about it that i enjoy. I like the level design, shadow and silver's campaign had a pretty good story, the soundtrack is fire, and the glitches are fun to mess around with. That being said the game is still bad despite all the things i like about it. The characters control like shit except for blaze, sonic's story is ass, the realistic human characters look like shit, and a whole lot of stupid shit is just in the game. O6 is bad, but i still like the game.

I was one of the people that actually liked sonic 06 back before unleashed was available and I think that anyone that genuinely and I mean genuinely hates it with a passion. Either their standards are way to high or they have have something that they remember relating to sonic 06 that either makes them angry or upsets them in some way. But I’m not going to argue when people say it’s a bad game because it still is a bad game to an extent but it had so much potential to be good. The thing is though I feel like most people have forgotten that sonic boom rise of lyric exists and that is way worse than 06.

Lee's earnest belly laugh is one of the best sounds in existence.
Silver is one of my comfort characters, so him as well as the soundtrack of this game are the only things keeping me from wishing it was never made.
