  • At Drivenmad, we repair, maintain and upgrade vehicles in our workshop, here in the sunny Algarve, Portugal.
    Having hundreds of kilometres of dirt roads, dirt tracks and various hills with ruts on our doorstep, we venture out and test our 4x4’s to the limit (our limit, not theirs  )
    When we can get one, we will slip in a vehicle review, along with some product testing - who does not want to know which tyre stops the best ?
    So subscribe and join our journey as we modify, test and improve our cars in as many ways as possible.

    FYI, it's easier if you're by yourself to remove the whole knuckle, bang the hub assembly out from the back with a large punch and hammer (on wood blocks), yank and replace the axle, and then replace hub assembly in the knuckle, and put the knuckle back on. It saves all that banging with it on the car. And also, when 20 years old like mine are, it just works better.

      Great tip, although we hope never to do it again :)

      Its clean, that ends its good points 😭 it has been and is the worst vehicle I have ever owned - bought it in December and broken ever since, fix something and something else breaks - it is almost a brand new truck now, just waiting on new camber bolts to solve the unknown clunk - fingers crossed. ( if I was a rich man - as the song goes - I would happily blow it up 😂)

    I'm in USA and can't get Mitsubishi trucks or post-06 Montero/Pajero, unfortunately, but my 2003 Montero Limited wheel hub assembly and axles are almost identical to this later model Mitz truck. I personally like the make, and think they're better than Toyota and Nissan trucks/SUVs.

    Is there enough space to pull out the cv joint without removing the wheel bearing hub?

    • @DrivenMadShow
      @DrivenMadShow  Před 2 měsíci

      Yes I believe if you remove all the ball joints there is enough space 👍
      Thanks for the comment

    What! No pink shorts? Looks like the left hand side (foot end) of the mattress is getting a day off.

      A slight seepage needed more than the single wash

    Would you have used a bearing puller to pull the hub out if you had one? I want to reuse my bearing hub so I don’t want to hammer it out.

    • @DrivenMadShow
      @DrivenMadShow  Před rokem +1

      For sure - we were replacing ( for no good reason as it turned out) the other thing we need is a big old slide hammer - they work well in vids we have watched especially if you are looking to save it - hope yours comes out easier than ours, shed loads of dust here, plus a but of rust :(

      @@DrivenMadShow replaced right hand side driveshaft today on my L200 with your video as a guide. Took me about 4 hours to do it. Used a puller and a little bit of hammering. Thank you.

    Sir what part number of the front drive axle?

  • @MartinO090
    @MartinO090 Před rokem

    I had a klapping noice on the passenger side and what I found out was that my wheel bearing was messed up and probably my break disk as well. That destroyed my caliper slide pins and the holes in the caliper mount. Check the calipers for sideways play on yours?

    • @MartinO090
      @MartinO090 Před rokem +1

      Haha now I heard the noice in the end! Its sounds like the upper ball joint on the wishbone. It’s almost impossible to check because it’s always in tension. Otherwise check the wishbone bushing. I’ve heard it goes bad sometimes!

      Thanks Martin - we have done the lot - CV's UV's discs calipers pads :( - goes in tomorrow for a real man to check it out 🤓 fingers crossed he finds it (and its cheap :)

    You did a lot of stuff to make it stop clunking. Never throw parts at them. Waste of time and money, and loss of time doing something better than wrenching for no good reason.
    My 2003 Monteros have 231,000 miles on them. They clunk all the damn time. 😆 Usually shocks/springs clunk.

    • @DrivenMadShow
      @DrivenMadShow  Před 6 měsíci +1

      Ours was a clunk that sounded very terminal (plus old boy has OCD 🤓 for sure) - it went to two so called professionals (as we are clearly not 😄 ) - then tried an alignment which chucked us off the scent of the easy fix - as you say, 2 grand to find a 14 euro bolt ... no substitute for stupid 😂

    • @DrivenMadShow
      @DrivenMadShow  Před 6 měsíci +1

      Ahh - our clunk was a camber bolt czcams.com/video/trJxxAvqiOg/video.html - the alignment put us off, expected them to check that !
