Thanks for this video. Ignore the small minds' comments and enjoy the opportunity of which you took such good advantage to observe and capture the great Cat D-11R doing what it does so well. That was so great at about 1:50 when the operator bladed off a large chunk of still-consolidated shale! I've felt that same break-through with smaller loaders (955 & 977) and enjoyed putting a powerful machine through its paces. Rock on!
I got to drive the prototype of the D11 at CAT in preoria il when I was a kid it was solid white was so cool and saw and crawled up in the first one in the factory fully equipped and was painted the common yellow very cool :) it was like a secret it was behind a huge black curtain
the power the D11 has is simply unbelievable, ive operated every thing from small case 450 all the way up to the D11. them dozers can push a full blade and keep on cuttin foot foot and half deep, i miss being in the seat... mabe some day if this freakin economy ever turns around..

I wonder how much force is on the leading edge of that ripper. It's got the weight of the dozer and the power of the engine pulling it. It must amount to hundreds of tons.
@o0Derick0o The cap rock on a coal bed is usually a sedimentary rock, (i.e. shale sandstone etc.) but not always shale. In this case I would say it is shale but there is some sandstone above one of the seams of coal in this coal mine.
Nooo...I don't even work there. I just drove an old dump truck hauling coal to the crusher for a buddy of mine. I was only there about a month. I used to work there full time many many years ago tho.
Ripping doesn't seem to be a fast process. That D11R couldn't use 3 rippers instead of 1? It seems the tracks were not getting much traction & were slipping. Thanks for the video, it held my interest!

I can't say ripping up hill is stupid but I would like the reasoning behind it.

@CAMOEDTJ ..get on an HD 31 Fiat Allis..V 12 Cummins. 1000 hp..blade height about 9'..now theres a real dozer...
