The important souvenirs are your own memories. I generally don't buy kitsch. I collect tickets, take photos ...Many people also make the mistake of only visiting the big cities. In Franconia, the medium-sized cities such as Würzburg, Bamberg, Bayreuth, etc. and everything in between are particularly interesting.

The "Kinderzeche Dinkelsbüühl" ("Zeche" originally meaning sth like company or joint project, here in the meaning of "communal meal" or (by the community) "paid meal") started out as school fair even before the 30 Years' war: the pupils of the Latin school were at the start of the summer break invited to a feast banquet paid by the town council. (After the 30 Years' war also the pupils of the Protestant "German school" were included since 1649.) In the 19th century the tale about the bloodless capitulation to the Swedes was linked with the tradition. According to that legend a girl prevented the plundering and pillaging of the town by begging for mercy together with a group of children.

Wow, I am impressed. You did know the meaning of the chalk writing on the doors. Even many Germans nowadays do not know it.

    Next trip...The Fairy Tale Road.
Goes from Bremen all the way down to Bavaria and the Black Forest in Baden-Württemberg.
It touches any Grimm's fairy tale you can imagine and more.
    Rapunzel's castle? Yes!
    Red Riding Hood? Yes!

happy to see that the landscapes of southern germany, and bavaria in particular speak to you. many people never discover what landscape speaks to them. Traveling is the way to be.

The south German lakes are usually very deep and cold, this low temperatures prevent the water from getting algae and other microorganisms. The more blue the lakes or the river are turquoise, the colder they are. The constant flow of melt water from the Alps keeps them cold and clear.

So funny to see. Are you from America or Australian? I think you more Australian. The Coca-Cola always has to be there, xD I like it when an American family visits Europe and really sees the difference between Europe and the USA with their own eyes. It must be a completely different world for you! Anyway, welcome to Europe. I hope that you gained many great impressions.

Those tourist traps are not only for international tourists, also German tourists. Germany is also the most popular vacation destination for Germans. I knew many Germany wo holiday in Germany, just because they have dogs and transporting a dog with a plane is is a big effort. Putting the beloved dog in the rear compartment of the car and drive to a holiday location is much easier.

The blessing formula 20*C+M+B+24 - The 20 at the front is for the century, back stands for the year 2023. The small star stands for the star of Bethlehem, which the wise men from the East followed. The letters C, M and B are the abbreviation for “Christus mansionem benedicat”, i.e.: “Christ bless this house.” The three crosses stand for the triune God, i.e. Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
The marking is made by the so called star singer kids who go from house to house in January - a bit like Halloween in the USA, as the kids expect sweets for the blessing and a donation to a Christian project - usually they also have to sing a christian song "Nun sehet den Stern, den wir bringen" at each door. These are mostly children who are also in Christian organisations or altar kids.
