  • Our German road trip continues as we start our first day on the Fairy Tale Route that has taken us to see the real life Rapunzel Tower before making a stop over in Fritzlar to try some local pastries.
This whole route is inspired by the Brothers Grimm tales of Snow White, Sleeping Beauty, Red Riding Hood and all the classic Disney tales. We end our day before making our way to stay in one of the coolest hotels on our entire trip!

Two BIG adavntages of hiring a car and going to little towns is that you get to see REAL medieval towns (that weren't destroyed in the war like the major cities) AND, because they are so little, they aren't overrun by tourists like the mentioned cities.
Though there are exeptions to this rule, the biggest exeption probably being Rothenburg ob der Tauber. ;-)

I have been to Germany a couple of times. First time I went to Koln and all the way down via Heidelberg to Freiburg. What a beautiful place. Next time I went to Berlin and then to Dresden where I stayed for my vacation. Fell in love with the city. One time a friend and me travelled with a camper to Rostock and Rugen, and then down to Prague in the Chech Republic, and from there to Munich. I was driving the whole way which was such an accomplishment as we drive on the left side in my country South Africa. Two years ago I went to Munich absolutely loved it. I love Germany, what a great country with fantastic people and good food

      First: welcome to Germany.
It's nice to see, that you walk around with open eyes, heart and mouth. Each area of Germany has special regional meals, which I suggest to try.
      Nußecke=nutcorner
It's a mixture of nuts, mostly hazelnuts, honey, flour, eggs and chocolate of course. That bakery you visit there has a really great selection of "Kaffeestückchen"(these are diverse kind of cookies(mostly sweet), which you eat mostly in the morning for breakfast or coffee break). My favorites are Nußecken and Granatsplitter(a mix of a lot of ingredients, which is unknown for me, it's very sweet). It exist a bunch of different recepts and you've to try a few bakeries to find your personal taste. Of you found it, you'll see, that it's an addicting "poison". Take a look on Google pictures for it, there you see different forms and ingredients.
Have much fun at your journey. I will follow your great vids

Hi I´m from Hildesheim. .. The south is great, like München and Nürnberg...Rottenburg. Wiesbaden is also realy great. Now you´ve been too the east.. Saw old building and things like that. Maby I would go there, where many germans do on vacation: too the North sea. On some islands. Like "Sylt" or "Amrum" "Föhr".
"Sylt" is maby the nicest island, but unfortently some ritch people travel there an its a littel bit snobby... Its total different from the rest of germany.
Like I said, The south is beautifull with the mounthens and the huts. The North is flat, something different.
Wish you two farther a good time in germany, and in the next countrys.

Going on a roadtrip is our favourite way of travelling, too. We've been many times to the US and also discovered the beauty of France, Italy, the Netherlands, Irland and the UK by car. But we never been on a roadtrip in our own country (Germany). But as we are living right in the centre of Germany (Just an hour north of Fritzlar; in Göttingen) it is easy for us to visit nice places via daytrips. But someday we will drive the german coastline. That would be amazing. The towns in northern Germany are very special (Hanse) and all the many islands are just beautiful.

The new Things you have seen at the Houses are called "Schindeln". Under these the houses are the same "Fachwerkhaus", how this buildings are called. These Schindeln was to protekt the "weather Side" of the House. Or if someone wants to Show off that he was ritch, then it was made to the "Public Side of View" of the House. Early they was made Out of Wood in some regions, later they was made Out of "Schiefer", which is a flat Stone. These lasts for over 100 years. Mine now just start to drop down at a storm, cuz after 100 years the nails are rusty, today they use chopper nails. Its pretty nice, since u never have to paint ur wals or use protect stuff for the wood parts of the house, cuz they ptotect the house from any Rain. Btw Ur vlogs are very nice to See, even for a "native German" 😊

At 4:14 you're passing a shop calling itself "Neusehland", which translates to "New _see_ land". It looks like they're selling glasses or shades. 😃
The "Nussecke" you tried at the bakery translates to "nut corner", called thus because the dough contains both finely ground and chopped hazelnuts. Some bakeries dip all the edges in chocolate, like you experienced, and some dip the two sharp-angled corners instead. It's all good. 😋

You can acutally put the parking discs to the next half hour. So if you arrive at 10:35, you can put it to 11 o'clock. If you arrive on 10:05, you can put it on 10:30.
So you can get a little time extra ;)
(Or you could just get back in time and put it to the new time, so you have another 2 hours for parking xD)

    Hello, you two,
a little information from Germany :) - The doors in the old houses were so low in the medieval times that the staff bowed when entering the room. I look forward to further reports. It is as sweet as you are happy when you visit the beautiful Germany

Welcome to my home area of northern Hesse, where I grew up 😁
It is nice to see people from other countries, who visit the countyside and not only the big major cities and "classical" german sightseeing spots
I think, you guys don't have time, to make a loop way. But next time, when you are in Germany, you should visit Hameln (english Hamelin), the home of the pied piper tale. You will love the houses in the city center 😊
    Have a great time

Hey, you were in my home region. You basically circled my hometown by going to Trendelburg, Fritzlar and the Edersee. It's always interesting to see some foreigner's point of view, how beautiful it is here to be reminded by that fact. To most of us living here, all you mention is so "common". Hope you are having a good time here.
And next time you go to a bakery ask for some "Plunderteilchen"...they come in different shapes and tastes so be prepared to eat some more than just one ;)

Parkscheibe: you set it to the next half hour after the arrival time. So if you come at 11:03, you set it to 11:30. If you come at 11:34, you set it to 12:00. The maximum parking time is announced on the parking signs around. Note: do NEVER use the parking space of a supermarket if you're not shopping there. Your car might be towed away when you return.

Hello und guten Tag nach Neuseeland 😁
You're documentery about my Homeland really brought me to tears. I'm serious. I was crying because it make me so happy and proud hearing you talking nice about Deutschland. I realized often people talking bad about Deutschland and the germans..seems to me like WE all are murderers and without sense of humor. Thank you so much for sharing your opinion about your expirience visiting Deutschland.❤️

The english speaking west knows about the world from Hollywood movies. I think Germany is literally heaven. I am from New Zealand, known as a beautiful country, but Germany's villages, forest walks and valley cycle trails are simply heavenly. Its also incredibly safe and the vast majority of people are surprisingly friendly, open and engaging. Certainly a very unique and charming country.

There is usually a button marked as TA - Traffic Announcement on the radio. With this button you can turn the traffic hints ON/OFF. The active TP - Traffic Programm button allows only traffic announcement stations.

Magdeburg is a town from the first german Kaiser, he names Otto the First.
From the holy roman Empire of German Nations

Bootleg and Mixes - Laut Und Obszoen
Kaiser = emperor, or rather Holy Roman Emperor
Holy Roman Empire of German nations = Holy Roman Empire is the commonly used name. Holy Roman Empire of the German Nation is to my knowledge mainly used in Germany and even here the older and shorter Heiliges Römisches Reich (Holy Roman Empire) is used more commonly. 🙄

You can turn the traffic news off if you want. It's an optional feature, not a rule...but most people use it because frankly, it is handy to get the traffic news.
Nussecke - Nut angular shaped would be the closest translation. Basically a Nut triangle.
