When this song came out... it was easily my favorite on the album. Little did I know I would go through a break up a few months later. It then became a cathartic anthem for me. Fast forward to January 2018 and I saw them live in NYC. Nicholas had pure raw emotion and I felt his hurt so much that I bursted into tears. "If all that I could ever be, was the best ex lover of your life..." every time...
But I am now in a much better place, know my identity better, and am forever thankful for my past and for this song, Nicholas and WALK THE MOON.
Why does this version not have 10 million likes???
This version made me appreciate the album version so much more. In this one, Nick pretty much lets his emotions come through uninhibited and shows just how powerful, meaningful, and emotional of a song this truly is. This makes me think that the album version might be more subdued for good reason. My belief is that it shows how we sometimes have to keep these emotions under wraps, away from where the outside world could see. But this version shows how much emotion is there, bubbling under the surface in the album version. This song is so heartbreakingly beautiful in so many ways, and I love it for that reason. It's real emotion and music that you can feel and relate to, and this entire album is full of songs like that.This is why WALK THE MOON is one of the bands I always end up coming back to, as their music is just so raw, realistic, and just fun and immersive! I would be deeply saddened if they are only known mostly from 'Shut Up and Dance', as they have so much brilliant music that it would be a crime for the world not to hear it!
