    Love SAS breaking down the responsibility and incentives of journalists, vs. the egos of players. It's the job of the media to call out players when they play poorly, behave badly, etc. and they're incentivized to do so, especially by their bosses and the company that pays their salaries. Players take it way too personally when journalists come at them, and no matter how much they get scrutinized by the media, they still getting paid millions by the league, their team, and sponsors at the end of the day.

    Not a huge Stephen A fan at all. But I love that he brought up the fact that the average journalist and beat writer is just out there doing their job earning their paycheck; answering to editors and investors. I am sure there are some jerks and incompetents out there like any job. But it’s a job and their are expectations. They ain’t all making millions or stealing spotlights. They have families to take care of. But same as the athletes it’s a give and take and it works best with mutual respect not mutual antagonism.

    I think all atlethes venturing into media need to listen to Stephen's message between the lines.
    When you work in the media, you have to be prepared for the good, the bad and the ugly.
    The new media is good for fans to know more about the player as a person, but you still need a PR team to filter what you say if you want to keep working in the NBA.
    The old media is always going to influence sports. The decision makers need a voice when they want to raise or lower a player's value.
    It's business, after all.

    I think the media and the players can meet a medium by the media for example saying that eventhough the cat did this or that they can follow it up by saying he's human an we all make mistakes something of that fashion I think players would respect there journalism more

    So he is saying the system is fucked up without saying it? Because if it's the producers who make the journalists ask mean questions, then the journalists should not work for such people. At the end of the day someone must be the culprit, you can't just excuse bad journalism because of the system. Without trying to do anything.
    A system he is well fed into. And who he is a relevant part of.

    SAS just came on this podcast an punkd every last one of them. He just showed them that old media still has the ultimate power. They had no pushback, just agreed with all that was being said by SAS. They was talking big stuff about SAS a week before. SAS got on his pod Cast and systematically broke pg career earnings, and Jackie film credits down, saying pretty much they are not worth what they get. The very first thing they do when SAS sits down is start laughing they(Jackie n pg) even look at each other and subliminally agree we not about that smoke frfr. I might leave this pod cast alone cause that just shows me, pg a player but when real smoke happens in this war and trust me there is a war happening between players n media,old media and new media, he and his guys go fall in line and not really be about that smoke.

    The media's job is to help promote the sport and it's personalities, along with providing info on any "Off the field Issues" that impact the game. The players job is to act like egotistical, entitled children who are too sensitive and fragile to accept criticism for $10 million/yr. Hell, the rest of us take criticism from our Supervisor at work every week for far less.

    Anyone that is a true fan of basketball is not really listening to the media including former players that are now part of the network shows - the core of the issue is that Stephen A and the media are essentially providing biased reporting. If they were just providing facts, stats and information without any dose of bias and opinion, then there will be no issues and one can agree with "they are doing their job" but to have more bias and opinion in your coverage and reporting than facts is not doing "your job"

    • @rrichmond14

    • @johnalba4406

      Arnt players bias there talking about the league they play in the players they work with that’s the most bias

    • @parthb90
      @parthb90 Před 10 měsíci +2

      Sports media is all bias and opinion. Giving terms of a player’s contract is reporting. Spending 30 minutes slandering a player and quantifying what he is “worth” and “how much he should get paid” is not reporting and is purely biased propaganda. These journalists are regular people - they are not subject matter experts. This is why rappers now have sports media shows as they are as credible as the traditional sports journalists given it is purely entertainment. If it is all for entertainment purposes, I rather watch funny rappers talk about sports than journalists on network shows

    • @Aircheekz
      @Aircheekz Před 10 měsíci +1

      I agree with like 1000% dude! I been saying all this for a minute. Because the reality is espy views are down and a big part of the reason is the bias reporting, that they try and mask as expertise. its annoying and why espy doesn't get a single moment of viewership from me unless its watching an actual game, which as I get older and try to lvl up in life I have less time for anyway. imo another part of the problem is the 24 hr coverage of sports that exist. its created an over extension of sports talk where because they have so much space to fill in television, its created the "need" for nonsense shows that don't really need to exist. not to mention the redundancy of like 6 ppl chiming in on the same topic almost saying the same thing as the last person. id rather just talk to my friends about sports here an there now and watch games when I can and listen to an occasional podcasts. sports is not that incredibly important in life as a whole to where it needs to be on our minds 24/7@@parthb90
