- Flite Test - Differential - FLITE TIP
Once again, thanks to HobbyKing, we find the Joshes basking in the sun on an outcropping of rock in southern California instead of the cold and grey expanses of Ohio. Josh Scott introduces a little southern charm into the show. Meanwhile Josh Bixler does an excellent job explaining how different wing styles and configurations can effect flight characteristics and how with a computer radio one can use differential to compensate for these effects. Some might be reaching for their coffee while Josh B. uses terms like axial rolls, awkward angles, ailerons, and adverse yaw, and those were just the A's. Fortunately Josh S. was able to bring it all to a close with a surprisingly thorough summary of the episodes lesson. - Zábava
Great tutorial , always enjoy your humour Joshua.
Excellent video & tutorial, pity about the distracting yawns.
love your videos. educational and funny at the same time. my eight year old and i both love them!
That's a great video, y'all!
like the real deal!
keep it up guys, great work!
great vid!
Remember guys, you can't use differential if you are using a Y-harness on your aileron servos. Thanks for the video!
wohoo new flite test!
They're definitely filming at Vasquez Rocks, just north of Los Angeles, CA.
@aeropoke26 Thanks for the very indepth reply, i didn't think of that! so the upward aileron works like a spoiler, reducing the lift of the aerofoil reducing the drag, you learn something new every day!
Differential is cool but what % more on the up aileron?
great.. now I know what they are.
any chance you can show how to program on Taranis?
@dhdsracer You can set mechanical differential though by putting the arms slightly forward or back on the splines
@vanepico its because the downward aileron is is causing more camber on the wing therefore increasing lift. and an adverse effect of lift is drag. hope this helps
HI Josh x 2, I always enjoy your videos. Thank you for passing on you knowledge and experiences to us. Can you tell me the set up you are using on ths 1.5Mtr Fox? What engine and speed conroller, servos etc. Thanks .
@vanepico Kind of. a spoiler's job is to purely reduce lift by "spoiling" the airflow over the wing. an aileron works on the principal that it is increasing or decreasing the effective camber of the airfoil/wing section thus increasing or decreasing lift. So the aileron is essentially causing an increase or decrease in circulation around the wing where as a spoiler will merely disturb the Lifting pressure on the upper surface of a wing. I hope this helps.
Bernoulli's principle is what causes this effect. The pressure on the bottom of the wing is higher than on the top (which is what creates lift). This is even more evident on high lift wings with a flat bottom. The aileron that goes down will have more yaw effect because of the greater pressure under the wing. That is why differential is more important on high lift wings.
FPV in that terrain would be fantastic.
I believe it is missing details for mechanical instalation, we also can have the diferential action mechanical with one servo or two servos with Y extension, just need to shift the position of the links on the servo arms, I mean installing the link like 30 degrees shifted from the servo central position.
@vanepico This phenomenon occurs because Drag is proportional to Lift. This is called induced drag CD=CL^2/(Pi*AspectRatio*efficiencyfactor). when you deflect an aileron down it creates lift thus creating more drag. Because there is more drag on one wing than the other, the plane will tend to yaw.
The good ole' days.
Hey thanks for the video! I have several RC EPO planes and I am a competent flyer, but I am looking to get into basal and fiberglass. Would you suggest this plane to start? Are the flight characteristics such that I could learn and progress with this plane? I noticed that HK sells it as a kit and I love to build, thanks a bunch.
Is this just to counter adverse yaw, or to ensure the plane is strictly rolling around the fuselage also?
how much time was actually between the shooting of this video and the one where the fox crashed?
Bless his heart, Ya'll
flitetest and djmedic are the only rc channels to watch!
Doesn't the drag act on both the ailerons ? Shouldn't the moments cancel out ?
Loved the yawn, y'all. Great video! :)
So we still don't get to see the Fox fly? I mean without annihilation after 2 seconds... ;-)
The bixler!
One thing that should be mentioned, probably, is that your need 2 servo's to achieve differential. Maybe obvious for most of you, but not for all.
here is one Josh to many in your videos...
Somewhere in Utah, I think.
I think I had Bernoullis the other night. Ah no, they were Burritos. What flavour are Bernoullis? A side order of Rogallos could be good too. ;¬)
were are they filming?
This model also has an angle in elevator, that is probably wrong... when you decrease the attack angle of elevator(3 to 5 degrees), the flight become a lot more easy and pleasant...
why does it produce more drag when it is downward?
what kind of plane is that!?!?!?!
the description says southern california
lmao
Scott, men you said differential with perfect Portuguese accent lol
you would blend in perfect in Lisbon talking like that!
:-D
What plane is this.. is want one..
"Differen-sial!" ^_^
is that affects rolling ????
Should have tossed it! :0)
@lbchuma Some airplanes doesn't have rudder.
What happened to Scott Joshua ?
Did anyone notice that in the intro at 0:15 his finger is scarred.
Differensy’all
Wait so you have a hot liner/glider, on a windy day on a big hill, and you DONT want to fly it?
That is the exact place to be flying it, catch some sick hill lift.
Beware that borderline hotliner!
Davis windesTIAL!
18,843th!
@MrCpuclocker and?
19,006th!!!!!!!
19582th
My bad Between 0:14 and 0:15
NO NO DONT THROW IT!
No flying in this videoi y'all.
That prop looks very sad...
You should have a hot girl in a bikini eating bananas in the background.
Les intro more subject
Do you know what this video is missing???? A reach around.
why does it have to be southern ?lol
why not just learn how to use the rudder?
Please ignore ritzerinaustralia, he makes Australians look like assholes but in fact most of us aren't. By the name I'd say he's German anyway, which should make him more gay tolerant. The vies are amazing, I just wish I had of thought of it first.
