      Hey Scotty, can you do a video on the thermal degradation value of automatic transmission fluid in Toyotas? I used my scan tool and noticed Toyota gives a thermal degradation value to the tranny fluid. From what I've read, if that number is 65,455 it means the transmission fluid is worn out. Just curious as to how accurate these measurements are.

      That fighter plane had mechanic injection like a diesel pump . Crank driven (via chain or gear, I don't know) pump with steel lines from pump to injector. I'm guessing direct injection. Some Mercedes of the 1950's had this same kind of setup, and direct injection.
      The Mercedes in this video has Bosch K/CIS injection, which means that fuel is metered by a disc in a venturi in the incoming air, and that disc is mounted like a seesaw, to a plunger in the center of the fuel distributor. Then hard lines from there to the mechanical injectors which are port injection (spraying at the intake valves.) Hard to describe it it actually was an air-mass-measuring system and worked well, provided you fixed all vacuum leaks and didn't go reaching for that 3mm screw or fiddling with the most expensive/complicated part right off the bat!

    It can't hurt to put in injector cleaner. I've found Shell gas does the same thing. Maybe the air flow valve is allowing more air thru than it did when new. Another problem could be that he's driving so few miles. I have a 30 yo Ranger that can sit months between starts. The fuel simply sits too long, much like you get in MCs and lawn mowers. It developed a slightly rough idle and MPG dropped from 18 to around 15.5. A shot of injector cleaner and a couple tanks of fuel restored its MPG.

    I’m looking at buying 4 different vehicles.
    2006-2011 Toyota RAV4
    2006-2011, Honda CRV
    2007-2011 Honda Fit
    2005-2009 Toyota Matrix
    I live in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. Where it gets really cold during the winter time.
    I understand SUVs are different than cars. I’m looking for the most reliable vehicle that will last me during the winter and a vehicle that won’t cost a lot to maintain when parts break down.
    What would you buy for a vehicle that’s going to last the longest and run great in cold weather?

    Be it VW or Mercedes, "unhappy when cold but happier when warmed up" can be the vacuum leak around old, hard, shrunken seals around the injectors. Bosch K/CIS hates unmetered air leaks. Replacing these seals (and the plastic shrouds) on this era of Mercedes is a snap. (Replacing the O-rings on old VW's can really suck.) If you fix the vacuum leaks, then the setting at that 3mm Allen headed screw might be correct after all!
    For fuel injection/intake valve/combustion chamber cleaning, I'm a big fan of Red Line SI-1.
    To get your fuel distributor rebuilt in the USA, google for CIS Flowtech, Inc.

    I had a 91' 300E back in college. Old but mint car. First trip home after buying it crossing the Rockys on top of a pass a deer ran out in front of me. Naturally i was speeding, swerved left at 75 slightly, got loose, counter steered and corrected and floored it. Clean get away. Car was a rock. I love pre 94 Mercedes they were extremely well built and reliable. Not Toyota reliable,but good. Labor and parts was expensive but great cars.

  • @delavan9141

    Was that adjustment an idle adjustment? There must be a start-up fuel mixture adjustment as well that senses ambient temperature. Carburetors have them (the old bi-metal coil, LOL) , I would think a fuel pump would as well.

    • @theundergroundlairofthesqu9261
      @theundergroundlairofthesqu9261 Před měsícem

      The adjustment is made at idle, but best I coudl always figure out it affected the relationship between the airflow-measuring disc and the plunger in the fuel distributor throughout the whole range.

    is it normal for my starter to have a delay early in the morning on a cold day... I dont live in an area where it snows or anything but in the winter time it can get very icy in the morning. When I goto turn the key I sometimes find myself holding the key in the start position for a good 3 seconds before the starter motor even engages and begins doing anything. Once the starter begins cranking it starts up like no problem. It has me stumped and only happens when its really cold

    Hello from Georgia(country),
    You say hybrids are the future of cars. How they hold up over time if they keep shutting down every time you stop at a red light or traffic. Or you step on gas engine starts and imidiatly revs up. And i know most wear comes from the start of the engine.
    Also I'm interested, how prius manages to stay so reliable. And how hybrids keep their engines warm while being shut down half of the time. (Sorry for bad English 😂)

    • @aspecreviews
      @aspecreviews Před 2 měsíci

      My 2002 Prius will idle continuously until it's warm. Close to no wear occurs when warm-starting an engine.
      Also, the hybrid battery helps with acceleration so the engine does not work hard at all.

      It's cold starts where the oil hasn't gotten everywhere yet that cause problems.
      Some manufacturers that I know of (Toyota) have put coatings on the piston skirts to retain oil better between hot restarts.
