  • Gun dogs in cold weather: With the recent hunt footage we have been posting, we have been receiving a number of questions regarding cold weather hunting with dogs. In this episode of the podcast, we cover the neoprene vests, the blinds we use, and what we watch for when hunting in the cold. One of the biggest factors that can lead to a dog having troubles is being in the water. When hunting water, it is crucial that you get them dry when they aren’t making a retrieve. We have been using the MoMarsh Invisi-Lab blind to do just that. We also put a neoprene vest on them to give an extra layer of insulation. We have been using the MoMarsh Versa Vest with a lot of luck.
As we get later into the season and water starts freezing, there are a number of things as a handler that you need be cognizant of with your gun dogs in cold weather. Hopefully, this podcast helps you with keeping your dog safe in tough conditions.

Always have to be conscious in cold conditions, especially when on the water. Thanks for watching Tim!

Great response to the concern about dog safety! You definitely shouldn't put your dog in danger... You definitely were not! And the conservation point was well made. Keep up the good work!! I'm a new fan!

Thank You for the video. being new to the retriever world I always worry if I am pushing my dog too far. It helps to see and hear the various warning signs of hunting with ice on the water. Thank you again.

Thanks for this video. Im looking at the momarsh blind for our lab. Can you provide any advice for a guy hunting in west texas where we deal with prickly pear cactus, sand burs and goatheads, mesquite and thorns. Temps can be hot, so boots would hold heat in. Better to leave the boots off or on? We can have 80's or below freezing weather during an upland hunt. Also considering the Rex Specs goggles so I can take our dog on Sand Hill Crane hunts. Ive read its important to protect their eyes because the cranes will attack if not dead on the fall.

Any vest recommendations for an upland retriever? I need something that protects her against sticks impaling her etc. We already have the rex specs for her eyes

Will this vest work well with a German/Australian Shepherd shed & deer tracking dog that will be faced with deeper snow and freezing conditions during a track?

Do you still use this vest? I’ve heard of many issues with it falling apart? Any issues?

Thanks Jeremy for emphasising that everyone who hunts/shoots is duty bound to see that all they shoot is picked up. To say 'it's just a duck' shows a complete lack of respect for the sport and the quarry and is the sort of comment that plays into the hands of antis.
