Im so new and lame dreaming about bass since I was 15. I’m almost 31. How screwed I am if I have the “less stringed instrument”? Les is my god and I don’t know where to begin my journey. Standard bass guitar? Or go further? I’m confused.
Hey man, thanks for the help, Ive been wanting to learn how to play this song the right way, but could never find how. And thanks for explaining the muted part, never understood what he was doing at that part.
As a drummer I will translate. This young man is trying to describe triplet's in the verse (i think thats what he said. I think he was playing them as paradiddles (a drummer term describing sticking) Triplets are counted usually like **1- trip- let 2-trip-let** and played as RLR LRL ect. He is playing it as RLR RLR LRL ect. Kid seems like he researched how Les plays it. When I play it on drums I count it as "trip a la trip a la 2 trip a la trip a la 4" Weird drummer talk but helps.
Primus songs are usually way harder on bass. Which is why if I had to cover a Primus song,it would have to be My Name is Mud,I gotta cut my bassist some slack.
well to be honest thats one of the reason why i started playing bass never toutched a instrument before but i guess i should learn the basics first and get felxible with booth hands but thaaaanks soo much duude !
i saw primus once they had buckethead there too. my name is mud with buckethead. are you getting the new primus album in september. i wonder if primus has any left after 13 yrs.
You can play it either way ( with diddles or hand to hand ). When I started playing I was taught if you can count it you can play it. Its always helped me. Just repeat the phrase. **note I am not a bassist, just a lowly drummer and am only trying to help explain the phrase****
You know he's a les fan when his name is whamola
Exactly my first thought
Whamola
Wynonas got herself a big brown beaver
I'm new to bass, about 2 years in, and I've always wanted to learn this song. Because of you and this video, I got this. Thanks for your help

Judging from your bass, your personality and your Alive poster, I feel like if I knew you we would be best friends.
What about after the part where Claypool says "m-m-m-m-m-m-m mud"? Could you maybe do a full lesson please?

Is this even possible to play on a 4 stringer?
Just tune it to BEAD
Ill have to try. but i think my E string might get too loose
yeah.. that's why I need a 5-string bass :/
or you can buy a 5-string string set and not use the G string
Slurpbzs I am playing this song on 4 string. Just use thick strings.
Bibis Product Palacement Hmm maybe someday but next strings I'll buy will be 45-100

In the vid, He used a 6 string, I was told You can drop a 5 string down a whole step and a half.
