    You are spot on mark, only thing ive been hearing from listening to the tune, is after he hits the c power chord, i can hear the slapping and popping from the intro, but it sounds as if hes doing something else, its like an low E and e sharp too, as well as that slapping bit, you can hear that new string metallic sound, im probably wrong as im just new too bass, wish we could get an isolated track, maybe he doubled it up, we'll never know, but anyway subscribed and your helping me so much, love it buddy

    • @weedwhackerman
      @weedwhackerman Před 6 měsíci

      Maybe I'm thinking too much into it, but it definitely sounds as if its a double track with bass copying the guitar, with the slaps and pops above haha, happy new year anyway lol, I'm just sitting with a few cans trying to learn Les and yourself haha, it's all good fun 😂❤❤

    • @weedwhackerman
      @weedwhackerman Před 6 měsíci

    double thumb on the solo is easier (for me, anyway) and snappier. same two thumb hits, but then up-thumb after the palm mute. t-t-pm-tu-s-pm.
    when you're doing it right (his way or mine), you can feel the waltz time in it.

    • @MrGul
      @MrGul Před 2 lety +3

      He uses some sort of envelope filter or synth bass pedal for that part and it starts with a slow 1/2 step bend from the low G (E-string 3rd fret) for a half note, then two 16th notes which are tapped (using two different fingers on the right hand) starting on the G-string 18th fret (a C#) and then the D-string 17th fret (a G) which is then followed up by hitting the low E-string with the right hand thumb in consecutive 16th notes and moving it down chromatically on the neck (while muting the string with the left hand so that the sound is only percussive) before starting over from the bend again, but this time the tapped notes are 19th fret (a D) and 18th fret (an Ab) - then repeat all that nine (!) times!

    the tricky parts for all these licks for me, is the coming back around to the thumb note to start off the lick....you kind of short shrifted the difficulty (and speed) required to in essence , 'double slap' the thumb on the final note of the simple loop , to the first note of the same simple loop, particularly for that solo. That is where the difficulty lies for all the patterns, imo. Connecting the final note back into the first note of all the patterns.

    The amazing thing about Les Claypools' playing is he often takes a simplistic riff, structures it around a repetitive swing rhythm.

    • @MrGul
      @MrGul Před 2 lety +2

      Overall I agree totally, but disagree about the swing rhythm. This song, as with 95% of Primus' material, is just straight 16th notes. There are 6-tuplets for the slap solo as well as a triplet in the bridge riff, but none of them have an actual swing rhythm to them - the "grid" is still straight, not swing.
