      Yes, now that Matthew Levatich has quit maybe we can get a 5 gallon tank on the Fat Bob (frankly get rid of all peanut tanks), stop delivering bikes with tubed spoked wheels, and deliver HOGS with more meat and less lipstick.

      You must be some kind of sales representative from Harley because of $13,000 isn't a motorcycle that is actually reached by the American public. Try 4,000 that's what most people can afford....

  • @saddle8bag
    @saddle8bag Před 4 lety +38

    "Sort of still a Harley?" It's the most Harley. Harleys only recently became couches with full sized entertainment centers bolted on the forks. They used to be machines that changed infrequently. That means there are a lot of parts on the market and can be acquired quick and cheap. And they were simple so the owner could easily take care of it themselves.
    All this nanny electronics stuff is more geared to racing Ducatis than to American street bikes.

    • @gvs5318
      @gvs5318 Před 4 lety +1

      They're still changed infrequently, but tastes of the riders change. I remember purchasing my used 1976 bagger in '80 and thought it was the cat's meow. Still have that bike, (along with all my other HD M.C. purchases of the '90's, and 2000's), I still ride it to bike nights and such but it doesn't compare to my '20 114" Road Glide in any way shape or form. AND: if you're looking for THE roller coaster ride, try an EBR 1190

A real Softail with the new engine is awesome and I hope the customization aspect expands to offer a larger tank and more paint options.

    After seeing some reviews on CZcams. I went into a Harley "Clothing Boutique" to look at one in person. What attracted me was the price for an M8 107 motor on a softail frame that would be a platform for which I could radically customize it. I already have 3 bikes in my garage but none of them a Harley...this would be my very first Harley.....I liked the fact that it was fairly bare bones without the annoying bells and whistles.....found on the Road and Street and ULTRA Pigs...or even the Low Rider Sow...even so...the Soft Tail Standard still had a lot of junk on it. It looks like a good bike to rip out all of the electronics...and throw a Carbuerator onto, dump the stock exhaust for a 2 into 1 HPI exhaust, get a bigger tank, dump the cheap seat, swap out the cheesy Turn Signals with Motogadget LED turn signals

They said it would be released sometime 2020... Also the claim that the livewire has been met with 'very disappointing results'. I dig it. Here's the problem with new Harley's in the US, used Harley's in the US. In the 90's and early 2000's the company couldn't make enough bikes to meet demand and used ones were more than new ones in a lot of cases because there was waiting list to get a new one. Then around 2003 or so they started pumping out hundreds of thousands of Harley's and caught up to demand. Right now there are many nice later model low mile Harley's on the market for about half the price of this one.

Good price for entry into the M8 engine range. comes with ABS in EU and UK Its £800 less than a Street Bob, and not much more than a 1200 Sportster that is going to be killed off soon. Harley is making a real bike with no fruit, it isn't a necessity and it takes away from what riding really is...

    My only gripe is with all manufacturers, make the tank last 300+ klms already.
    I made sure I bought a new cruiser before our laws here came into effect regarding abs etc.
    A cruiser doesn't need all the electronic add-ons they're getting now, simple bike to enjoy the ride but keep you focused is what it's all about.

    It is called the Softail "Standard". That means no frills or extras. ABS is an option so, of course, it doesn't come "standard". (there's that word again) It is not the fault of H-D that Europe requires ABS. Remember, it IS available as an option. Those of us in the states have the ability to buy the "Standard" just as it is without the "options". See how that works? The price is $13,500 for the "Standard". That is not that an unreasonable "suggested" retail price and it won't be long until American buyers will be able to pick one of these up for a few dollars less. Some of us like "standard" bikes without any ABS, riding modes, or hi-tech screens. It should sell well over here.

    What Harley really need to do is produce a quality product. Better oil pump (Mk3 at the moment), stop the wet sumping. Transfer oil from gbox to primary case, their R&D needs to be overhauled desperately. It appears HD is mass producing as opossed to lean production. I've had 5 HD, all with major engine issues. I disagree with the statement about the monoshock handling better than the 2 shocks of old. The softail (monoshock) does not handle as well as the FX (twin shock) that they killed off 2 years ago. I'm not talking about the big bagger and fairing FL line, I'm talking about the FX line. With a few tweaks they handled very well. A good rider on a properly set up stock Low Rider or even plain Superglide would suprise the hell out of the sport bike crowd in the twisties. And like the rest of the bike world, if you went aftermarket then they could and did handle everything you could throw them into. The Softail line handles ok and the newest line handles better than my previous generation softail. You were close but slightly off in your comparison but I forgive you for believing the Motor Companies marketing department. As far as all the electronic nannies, I just bought my first ever new motorcycle. Its loaded with them. Yes they do what they claim but to be honest, I turn traction control or stability control off most of the time, and antilock stays on except for when on dirt. Then it's off. The bike handles very well, stops exceptionally well, and goes like a bat out of hell. However my favorite electronic gizmo is cruise control. As I'm sure you might have guessed, it is not a Harley, or Honda, or BMW. My first non Harley in over 40 years, and first new bike ever. I bought it because I want to go places My old Heritage wouldnt be comfortable going. Out in the desert or up in the mountains exploring and camping. I broke down and bought a KTM 790 Adventure. It is a fun fun bike. I cant wait for the first service so the rev limiter can be adjusted. That and a set of knobbies. Be safe and have fun.

Sport bikes are seldom used for track circuits by most purchasers, but agree, not typically comparable to cruisers. Other touring highway bikes like Gold Wings, BMW RT 1250, Yamaha FJR, Indian Challenger and many others compete for high mileage road touring and have very high HP and performance compared to our HD's. Not saying HD's are bad, their just mediocre performance at best compared to higher teck bikes today. If noise was power, they win!

    I would not characterize this as “sort of a Harley.” To my eyes, it’s a quintessential Harley. Too bad it’s not liquid-cooled. Liquid-cooling is the way to go, but Harley seems reluctant to embrace it. That’s disappointing. Nevertheless, if I was in the market for a new motorcycle and could afford the new Softail Standard, I’d seriously consider it. Not saying it would win the day, but I can’t help thinking that if I could afford one and passed on it, I’d kick myself later.

  • @johnnyringorandomsubjects5707

    That is still a lot of money, you can buy a Kawasaki Vaquero totally laid out for 17 grand but that's still too much I could never pay that for a motorcycle something I can only ride because I can't stand the cold for five or six months. I like my 2004 Kawasaki Vulcan Nomad that I paid $5,200 for 5 years ago never a problem.

    Good idea to offer "base" models, unfortunately HD Dealers will unrealistically mark up price turn a $13,500 bike into $15,500 very quickly due to greed. Sadly in bigger cities, especially the multi owned "chain" stores practice this m/up. We all understand tax, lic tags are standard cost requirement, but they also add Dealer mark up $1000+ & much more on touring models, $400+ freight, Dmv electronic Documentation fee's $500+ for simple computer processing. Turns an entry value bike into higher $$$ range quickly. Now days I look for used very low mileage bikes for many thousands less. Fair disclosure, Many other multi brand big chain dlrs do same thing.
