It looks like as of July 19, 2021 new or replacement pools pumps have to be variable speed if 1hp or bigger? I have a 1hp SuperPump single speed, and a 1hp on my portable vacuum, sounds like I wont be able to replace the motor in the future unless I downsize to a 3/4 (maybe that would still be fine)?

Probably would be fine because I don't think these pumps can use the extra horsepower. 3/4 horsepower and inch and a half ID is about made for each other. Hayward is no good to talk to on the subject. I complain that they're 2 in ball valves had an inch and a half ID hole in the middle of it. This was after they were being fussy with me talking about how much resistance there is an X number of feet of 2 inch piping and how many 45s and how many 90s. Then they're 2-in valve as an inch and a half hole in it IE a reducer! This impeller housing has about an inch and a half hole in it and the impeller hasn't even smaller hole in the center of it. I don't imagine you can even run 50gpm through it
