Retired GM Master mechanic. After turning wrenches for close to 50 years my tools are in my home garage. I specialized in steering, brakes, and suspension. The amount of special tools required to cover these areas was considerable. The last 7 years I worked in a shop where I had to keep my main toolbox {Mac MB1700} locked up. As a mechanic I understood tools was very expensive, when you had to re-buy them because someone borrowed them and did not return it, they were more expensive. Very impressive set. Thank for the tour.
What special tools did u need for brakes steering or suspension every mechanic I know has basic tools nothing fancy or expensive and always got the job done
Wow!! Show that to people who complain it costs too much to fix their cars ! Lots of investment over the years PLUS all the big items like lifts, compressors, rent, salaries,,etc,etc,etc....Respect to you sir....
People are stupid. No-one seems to understand if someone has a skill or knowledge you need but don't have, you're going to pay for that advantage. It's a basic facts of economics
@@ADUSN Well resumed !!
This is why I do at least 85% of the maintenance on my house and car.
Probably one of if not the largest box tour I've seen, and I know that's not everything. Thanks for sharing, I enjoy your videos.
Man’s concerned about his organization and I’m over here amazed at how well organized that box is..
He doesnt use it, he isnt a mechanic. His clean hands and wearing a wedding ring is the evidence.
imagine reaching into spaces and you have all those bracelets> he isnt a mechanic.
Loved to see the old craftsman 1/2” ratchet! I have the same one that was my dad’s from 30-40 years ago. Still works great. I’ve got lots of new tools, but those old classics that were handed down are a favorite. Thanks for sharing!
Awesome collection sir, want to see the retired tools box next
Clutch Head Screwdriver. Secondary Metering plate screws on Holley 4160 Carburetors.
I thought it was for small carburetors. I have one similar for my chain saw
enjoy the tour, being that I am 77 a lot of the old school stuff I used or wanted. Love the channel keep them coming..
Nice to know someone else has a flashlight problem! Haha thanks for sharing your knowledge with everyone!
This inspirational. I think I’ll organize my toolbox today
Thanks for the tour
That is a small fortune right there! I love tools!
Appreciate the tour.
Thanks for sharing the toolbox video. "You just never know". That's the tool buyer's justification to get a new tool. I do the same thing and it's true.
When I see a mechanic with tools in Wooden boxes ….. I know I’m in the RIGHT place.
I knew somone that used card board boxes in a stolen shopping cart.
@@ridervfr2798 No need to bring your dad into this.
@@BusyBee11226 don't make me come over there and punch yah in the bread basket.
Love the diagnostic equipment. In my opinion thats the true measure of a shops commitment to being always up to date on the ever changing tech. Beautiful setup Sherwood.
I’ve been waiting for this forever. I’m about to be ordering a Mr. Big myself
Thanks for sharing. Love seeing the tool collections of professional auto mechanics. Your collection is very impressive.
Nice looking box. I love the color!
In May of 2024 I will have been a certified mechanic for 40 years but my Matco toolbox is not nearly that size. You must have at least $500,000 in tools. I chose to buy myself a 2009 997.2 Porsche 911 instead. Great video as always. Have a great day from San Luis Obispo California.
And yes I agree with the Nissan comment that they will put a 10mm bolt in a really tight spot.
I recently upgraded to the power probe 4 from the 1.
A pile of shit Porsche huh? I'd rather have tools.
He has 150k tops not 500
@@MrSims-ky2ne I already have way too many tools most that I bought back in the 80s and 90s. Obviously you’ve never driven a 997 through a canyon, it’s a blast
@@traildisc155 I did over estimate but I think $150 maybe a little low. $150,000. That’s a down payment on a house here in California
@@johnrpizzaguy 500 is a down payment here in socal lol
Very impressive. Nice box Mr.👍👍👍
Liked to see the old Harley head wrench! Some people called them old truck door hinge wrenches. thanks for the tour!
there's two approaches to the tool game ...
A. get it when you NEED it ...
B. get it BEFORE you need it ...
(careful distinguishing WANT from need)
Wow what a investment! I understand ya gotta have the tool when that car roles in Thanks for the tour
That is a beautiful box.
Awesome toolboox !!!!
Snap on man must love that shop
Snap On are high quality tools but the downside is the warranty only applies to the original purchaser.
Not true
Snap-On tools are a lifetime warranty for their hard tools. Specifically ratchets, wrenches, sockets or any other hard tools. It doesn't matter who bought them or who has them in their hand. They cover it.
@@michaelt8330 The SO website says "This warranty only extends to the original Customer and cannot be transferred or assigned."
If you bought from a truck you are covered
Loved this vid. Thanks for sharing. 👍
Thanks for the video.
Wow...! What a variety of everything..!! Lots of tools..! Congratulations..!
very envious of your tools wish I had half your collection
Thanks for the tool box tour, i am becoming an LED light collector now that i have slowed down in my retirement, i still have my 2 lead lights one incandescent and one a quarts halogen that probably nobody will ever use again!.
Sometimes I find a cardboard box that fits in the drawer is the best organizer, especially for the extensions.
I put mine on a socket rail.
Awesome tool box tour--most impressive!
Nice setup
Sweet.. 🤙
i like your idea shop tools nice and clean , the most thing i love is the computer screen
i work at toyota dealer for now, i will have that screen once i have my own garage
I’m the same way with lights. I buy them for whatever reason I don’t know . 🤣🤣🤣 I know exactly how you feel
Very nice setup.
“Not gonna organize right now” proceeds to organize 😂
Excellent box:)
That black hawl set is awesome for wrenchs
Clutch head screwdriver. Generally used on Holley 4160 carburetors or removing cabinets from house trailers or factory built homes 😉😉
Now that's how a "Toolbox Flex" is done...beautiful setup. on old tools we all keep...I still have my first husky tools my father bought me at thirteen years old and Toyota tool set they used to come standard with my first new car, 1974 celica gt.
looked like what we called clutch head screw driver common on rear metering plate holly carbs
It made my day to see you gently closing the drawers. My work box is also kind of a community box and I yell at my guys all the time for slamming the drawers.
Very nice set up.
For the extensions I got the Snap on set of 3/8, 1/4, and 1/2. I love there plastic case I just use that for keeping them organized. I got the wobble extensions and gonna get the regular soon but it makes it easy to organize as they have their own place and easy to set up in the tool box
Love your tool set.
I've been a mechanic since 1980.
We have basically the same things😊
All I do now is mostly front ends and brakes. I still have all of my tools from the 80's.
I love my tools. Still buying more.
Love your channel.
Love your experience.
Love your wisdom.
I truly miss old school mechanics.
Old school mechanical machines.
And I miss using my fractional tools.
Everything is metric, I hate it.
But you must learn to adapt.
Looking forward to your next video.
🤘🔥🤘🔥🤘🔥
Are the american brands also going metric or what?
I learned that you can find a lot of ideas or products on etsy, for organizing your too box. So many people with 3D printers that had the same issues we run into with tool organization. I feel like I never stop organizing my box. lol.
Should use the vantage pro more. I love it as a graphing meter and for quickly scoping things without dragging out the pico. I’m the same way. I buy tons of electrical testing equipment because I love new toys even if i hardly use it. 😂
I have multiple portable scopes, multimeters, test lights, etc.
Love all your videos. For just reorganizing your toolbox. How do you remember where everything is? I have labels on every drawer and I still will go in 1 or 2 drawers before finding what I want.
I don’t miss buying tools for what he has in tools I have in fishing and hunting equipment good luck to him
Excellent tool box 👍🏻
I have an old fluke 99B from when I was servicing electronics.
get the snapon crowfoot holders. ive been using them for 25 years and still think theyre the best thing for crowfoot wrenches. awesome set up brotha.i have the same set up except i have the hutch, locker on each side and the top lockers too. epic is the best box ever built.
Amazing tool box 🤩
I have a question for you, why did you choose ATS scope over pico scope? please make a video about this and share with us your opinion, I really appreciate the videos you share with us on how to improve in automotive service industry, thank you
What a box of tools
Wow. That's a lot of tools. Can you make a video about the Otofix? What model is it? Do you like it?
Super nice setup! What is the paint code/color for that toolbox?
Impressive
I have that serpentine belt set! Purchased from Napa in 1995. If you need the 3/8 adapter Part numbers cross to apex/GW/KD not Carlyle
Nice review I put heavy stuff like ratchets and hammers on bottom box and put stuff I barley use up where I need a step to see. Love these types of videos tho that’s what I have on my channel
Sweet. A full length video. I was sad when the TikTok video ended 3 drawers in. 😂👍
Looks like the snapon guy was able to send all of his kids to college..I tip my hat to you sir!!
Fluke 98 scope is a great meter.
Can you do a video on the old school fluke scope? Would love to see
lmao at the snap-on belt
It's a great belt and won't scratch a car.
Fair play im very jealous one day one day 😂
I have maybe 10 drawers in my toolbox and i still cant remember where everything is. The fact you dont sit there for 10 minutes opening every drawer every time you need a tool is impressive in itself.
A whole lot of $$$ invested in tools and diag equipment, really nice display.
I find other people's toolbox and how their organization works for them very interesting. Thanks for sharing!
I do have one question - what do you use if you need to torque a nut to specs, but you only have room for a wrench? ...and more specifically, torque to 170ftlbs +... I seem to have a hard time finding a solution. Thanks!!
Check out “torque adapters”. They should be what you need.
@theinfamousb-ran5729 Thanks. I looked for those, but could't find one for 22mm 1/2 Drive, let alone something that torques that high.
I too have a strange fixation with lights.
Great tool collections but where do you see yourself in the next 5 or 10 years as an instructor. I am expanding as well in terms of insulated tools due to HVE , PHVE , and BEV. Amazing video as always.
A lot of opportunities are in front of me on the instructor front. Hopefully I'll still be getting out in front of classes live as well as growing these channels.
My solution for storing extensions is the 18 inch bar magnets from harbor freight, they’re like $2 a piece. Screw 3 of em’ to the wall a few inches apart above one another where the longer heavier extensions are being held up by 3 magnets.
I use those magnetic bars everywhere too. I pick up another 5 or 6 every time they go on sale for a couple bucks each.
I need to be able to see everything I use the most or I forget I have them, so I do a lot of magnetic hanging to save space and make sockets, adapters, extensions, picks, even ratchets etc visible at a glance
Sherwood I am a light nut as well, I think it started back in the day, because flashlights sucked, double d batteries, or shop lights that burned the hell out of you.😢
That is Nirvana to me. $500,000+ in tools and roll-aways. Hopefully you can write them off over time. When I was spooling-up as a AME, I couldn't write-off my tools - but that's up here in the Democratic Peoples Republik of Kanada.
Clutch Head Screwdriver for old Chevys
Outstanding collection of tools, and with organization like that, you better believe that the work product is done to mill spec.
Hello. As far as sockets go, do you still use SAE sockets ?
I've got them but don't use them much.
@@theroyaltyautoservice Thank you.
Not sure if its been mentioned but bad idea to keep those batteries plued in unattended. Been knowen to cause fires. Just throwing it out there..nice setup 😎.
If you have any interest and could design some kind of organization on paper I can 3d print and or CNC just about anything you can think of and I would love just to try different ideas. I have a tool box that also needs adjusting as well
I just found out that the blue liquid for the head gasket tester has a shelf life, I was going to buy the kit to put in the garage just to have it in case, but glad I did not. I mean I can buy the tester and just hold off on the liquid until I might need it. Does the Snap-On have a shelf life too?
I don't know but I'll definitely be checking. Thanks for the heads up! No pun intended. 🤣
@@theroyaltyautoservice yea i saw it somewhere saying it only lasts about a year before the colors stop working well. the blue/yellow
Tend to keep all the 1/4 together 3/8 together etc test together
Shocking how many specific tools we have to keep on hand, test equipment that are brand specific or only test one specific component only to be asked "why do you charge so much" I had to purchase a specialty tool to diagnose your specific car/component
Where is your shop located at? I'm in Draper, Utah.
St. Marys, GA
You right about those wiper arm pullers. After cracking a windshield, you will gladly buy the more expensive wiper arm pullers. It's one of those overpriced tools on the truck.
The lesser expensive battery terminal puller tool probably won't work on most wiper arms.
I just use a cornwell metal magnet for all My extensions
Hi Royalty,I am about to purchase a vehicle used one,how about mazda cx 9 vs ford explorers??? Please answer
I'd lean towards the Mazda but they are very similar.
@@theroyaltyautoservice ,thanks a lot,I was thinking of reliability and giving me no problems to fix over and over.
What is in your pockets and belt at the shop and why?
Multi tool, pocket screwdriver, light. Use them all the time.
1:20.. I think it's for drum brake springs..🤔
Or swapping carburetor jets
Carb tool.
@@theroyaltyautoservice nice...old school🏁I couldn't see a bend at the end that's why I wasn't 100% on the drum brake spring tool..👍
With a tool box that size, do you ever find yourself trying to remember where you keep something your looking for?? I have that problem and my box isn’t a quarter of the size of yours 😂😂😂😂
Just the cost of the toolbox’s is huge
"you never know when you might need that"
Now thats a mechanics tool box, must be 250k there
Scary how many rools we have that have only been used once or never that cost an absolute fortune having said that there's nothing worse than not having the tool or I have the tool but cant find it
Did you ever use your S wrench set or half moons?
It's rare but when I need them they are a life saver..
do you recommend me Gear wrench than Mac or snap on
They are all good. I do think Snap-On is still the best.
Grease those wiper arm splines before you put them back on.
Hello which oscilloscope do you advise me to buy
If you have the budget then Automotive Test Solutions EScope for sure.
clutch head screwdriver 1:24 minutes
My dad has a punch that he made from a broken Chrysler torsion bar.Has not shattered on him yet.I have tools my grandfather made he put the date and his name on.Will not ever get rid of them
