  • In this episode I am showing how to design for the fuel cell mounting system and the rear clip in a safe way that is light but strong and then also showing the fabrication of that design. This is the 10th build episode showing how to build a metric frame based Crate Racing USA Street Stock Race Car.
    Dirt Race Life is all about grass roots Dirt Track Racing both the technical how to and the at track action with us focusing on Street Stock Racing like CRUSA SS, Factory Stock, Pure Street, Stock, Etc.

    Your gonna have people lined up wanting a chassis before it’s over. Lol. I kept looking for the notification for a video. I see why it took a little longer than the others you got a lot knocked out. Awesome work as usual buddy.

      Hoping to get one out mid week this week. Looking like a short one just on the front springs and then a major one by Sunday on the upper mounts. That's the plan!

    Liking the 2 sectioned rear area. Just wondering if maybe you could have made the fuel cell be able to slide left or right, for weight distribution. Good thing is, you have plenty of bar to mount weight to, to compensate. Great build so far.

    • @DIRTRACELIFE
      @DIRTRACELIFE  Před 5 měsíci +3

      That's one of those things where I just do not agree with A LOT of racers. Most races I will run will be 8 to 12 lap qualifiers and 20 lap features where there is very little noticeable change in fuel burn off weight. If I offset the tank and then learn the car based on that having an expectation of how it is going to act with that offset position, I will be unprepared for the car having a noticeable shift in left side percentage during a 50 or 60 lap major show. I believe in a street stock under these conditions it is best to keep that potential shift to an absolute minimum.
      I don't think it's wrong to offset a tank, I just think it will mess me up to normally never feel a change because of it and then suddenly in the one big show I am in find that the car starts acting very different by lap 50. . . .

    Just wondering if the weight per linear foot of docol is the same as HREW? Some builders use seamed tubing as a crumple zone.

    • @DIRTRACELIFE
      @DIRTRACELIFE  Před 5 měsíci

      It is the same weight for the same size/thickness. It is WAY stronger than HREW and honestly considering how stiff this stuff is I am kind of agreeing with you but what I would like to do is maybe have docol 0.065" wall in stock that way I can reduce weight while getting the strength level I want. Seems like perhaps a good compromise.

    What do you think about running a stick from the main hoop back to the four-way behind the fuel cell on both sides?

    • @DIRTRACELIFE
      @DIRTRACELIFE  Před 5 měsíci +2

      it would sure make it look a lot more uniform. but I am thinking maybe it defeats the purpose of it being collapsible.

    Where will you be mounting the battery box? I personally like to mount mine in front of the cell and to the left. Some like to hang it in the corner. Or centered.

    • @DIRTRACELIFE
      @DIRTRACELIFE  Před 5 měsíci

      I have a spot picked out but am waiting to be a bit further along before committing to the location. I always mount mine on the right side to avoid too much left percentage

    How long is that rear hoop where bumper will go from crossmember for trailing arms? Looks way long on video. Just making sure your body is gonna work out right.

    • @DIRTRACELIFE
      @DIRTRACELIFE  Před 5 měsíci

      It's exactly flush out to where the body will be which is 48 inches from the center of the rear axle. This dimension is a fixed point that CRUSA limits by rules where we are not allowed to make it any longer.

  • @markwilliamson1198
    @markwilliamson1198 Před 5 měsíci +1

    I think I would have doubled the back hoop one on top and one on bottom

    • @DIRTRACELIFE
      @DIRTRACELIFE  Před 5 měsíci +2

      It's a choice each builder has to make.
      Either make it more rigid to be less likely to get bent but transfer more of that energy to the chassis and driver or To make the chassis have intentional fail points to absorb the energy protecting the driver and critical chassis points from those extreme hits. Some go one way some go the other. Me, I am in the second group on this.
