    What an absolute gem this guy is. A big thanks to the CZcams algorithm gods for recommending this channel. In a way you opened my eyes to the simplicity of homebrewing. I remember everything clicking when you compared duotights to Lego, as funny as it may sound. Keep up the good work!

    i remember back in the 80's i was in france, and i went to this little bar, and walked straight into andre the giant, we spoke for a good few hours just sitting and drinking, and he then went and bought an entire 50L keg of pelforth blonde for me, since he said he was pleasantly surprised to have met someone taller than him (im 7'7", hence big frank) i still have that keg in my attic, its all been drank since i got it, but i keep the keg as a reminder of that lovely fella

    I assume that you could install the auto shut off upstream of the blow tie to prevent beer from getting into it?

    While it's true that you can fill up 2l bottles and then chill them, a kegerator is obviously more convenient. 5 gallons of good home brew will save you about $250 compared to equivalent store bought beer - so that buys a decent used kegerator system. My goal for my first 5 gallons was to have it pay for itself by being frugal in parts and supplies...and it did. Every brew day since then has been free money, because I love doing it anyway as a hobby.

    I stopped using my spunding valves to control the output along with the flow stopper because the beer was damaging the gauges and it was a pain to clean. Now I just use a standard duotight ball valve which is a lot easier to clean.

    • @eshea21228
      @eshea21228 Před rokem +1

      My thoughts as well. Use the auto stop when filling corny kegs from fermenter under pressure. But I'd never use spunding valve ahead of the auto stop because of potential damage to the gauges from beer through the Blowtie.

    I wonder if you could add the auto shut off valve ahead of the spunding valve, saving have beer enter into the spunding valve itself before shutoff.

      It's no rinse acid based sanitiser that's how that works, food and drink industry standard, else it wouldn't work if you had to dry it out

  • @stewartpearson2632
    @stewartpearson2632 Před rokem +6

    So you really just spray the sanitizer in and don't rinse it out at all and let it mix with the beer going in??

      Starsan is nice like that, you don't rinse. But you do empty out the extra liquid. Leave the foam.

    Hi, this looks super cost effective however I must ask, how long does the beer last after the keg is opened? I assume different beers last for longer or shorter time. How long would a basic lager keg last and how long would the beer in the bottles?

    • @cankeg9515
      @cankeg9515  Před 2 lety +2

      Air and light are two of the most detrimental variables to a good beer. With the direct fill kit, beer is able to be sent from the source keg to the CanKeg without ever touching air or seeing the light of day. So, it should keep as long as the original keg provided you're pushing out the beer with more CO2. If you're just pouring it, of course you best be enjoying it at the same time.
