    Yes. Alaska Airlines is a vital service within the state of Alaska. And their regional airline Horizon (whom I work for) flies predominantly over the PNW area. It’s a great company to work for

  • @stoyangotsev-flywithme2834

    Very nice trip report! I flew Alaska few weeks ago (Oakland - Seattle) and I was generally impressed of their service. However I didn't expected that on transcontinental flight they don't offer complimentary food. Here in Europe most of the airlines offer worse service than Alaska, but all of them (excluding the low-costers) will definitely offer complimentary meal on 5h flight!

  • @dianeschroeder3980
    @dianeschroeder3980 Před 4 lety +1

    As someone who lives in the US, we fly on lots of 737s. However, I really don’t like the idea of being on a 737 for 4 1/2 or 5 hours, which I had to endure from Miami to San Francisco last year. It was just way too long to be on a small plane. As for Alaska Airlines, I don’t find it any more special than American Airlines. Neither one of them serve food on a cross-country flight so I don’t see what the difference is. The one good thing about Alaska is that it’s partnered with American, and American has far more planes than Alaska so you may be able to get a widebody across the US rather than a one aisle plane. Thanks for the great trip report and beautiful footage David!❤️👍✈️

    • @CrazyArcher2160
      @CrazyArcher2160 Před 4 lety +1

      No offense, but I think you're a bit spoiled ;)
      Living in Israel, I'm used to flying almost-exclusively on narrow-bodies to European destinations, and flight duration is in the 4-hr area. In my experience, if it's a decent seat and enough legroom, it's quite fine.
      However, I agree on the lack of food on domestic US flight -- it's a shame they don't provide meals on such long flights.

    I flew in standard economy for a five-hour trip from Portland to Philadelphia on another airline. When we landed and I walked to my connecting gate, I couldn't walk without feeling dizzy and had a "moonwalking" feeling. I had developed a bad case of vertigo that took well over a year to go away, even with medical treatment. I'll fly in standard coach/economy for a one, perhaps two-hour flight, but not a transcontinental or international flight. I'll spend the extra bucks for at least premium economy just to be able to stretch out more and be comfortable.

    • @trotamundo76
      @trotamundo76 Před 4 lety +8

      Dave Schwartz That’s because you are used to US market but all over the world, serving food even on 2 hr flight is the norm. Also it’s not true that legacy carriers don’t offer meals, Delta does, even United on a EWR SFO I flew last year (which I wasn’t expecting) offered meals. At least Spirit and Southwest are LLC so nobody expects free food nor drinks.

    Alaska can’t decide if they want to be a regional, low-cost, or full service carrier.
    Regional:Alaska name, flies to some small towns in Alaska
    Low-cost: No seatback screens on 5-hour flights, uses small planes for routes that could easily fill wide-bodies
    Full-service:Lounges, premium cabins.

    Honestly, there's nothing I see here that would compel me to fly Alaska over another similar airline. Nothing seriously bad, but it's just bland and boring. Then again, bland and boring may be a good thing, compared to passenger assault and dead pets you get on United and American?

    • @CarlosCastro-gt3ir
      @CarlosCastro-gt3ir Před 4 lety

      Shaun Yip I would honestly fly United anytime, since I live in one of their hubs, George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH). Despite many people hating on United, I would say it’s one of the best airlines in the US. They offer IFE, some even have DirecTv on board. I have always had a great experience flying United, and I like how they offer many nonstop flights from IAH. If I ever fly Alaska Airlines, I would have to make stops, and no one likes that.

      I live in DFW . And most flights are AA because its their main hub . But we also have several budget flights like spirit , or southwest which is in Love Field

      Virgin America was the best. The rest of the US airlines are incredibly boring.

      I'd rather fly "bland and boring" like Alaska (my favorite US carrier) than something awful, like Southwest, American, or Frontier (based on multiple experiences with each airline).
