Now I want to fly to Japan on JAL!

Thank you for the review. We'll be flying with JAL for the first time. We've been flying with Asiana and EVA most of the time.

The conventional seat configuration on the 787 is 3-3-3, while JAL has 1 seat less in each row, making it a 2-4-2 configuration. This reduction in pax explains the extra bin space you have as opposed to other airlines.

Nice and for JAL they compete with ANA for US to Japan market. Codeshare wise JL is in Oneworld with AA and AS while ANA is Star Alliance with UA for US connections. If you did ANA LAX-NRT you can compare 3-3-3 B787-9 to JL 2-4-2 B787-9

Glad to hear Wi-Fi worked well, flew Alaska last time I went over to Japan and got the inflight Wi-Fi for the whole flight and it hardly worked at all.

That's a bummer that WiFi barley worked. That happens often on international flights tho... so that's why we were surprised at how well this WiFi worked.

Concur. JAL economy is great. I fly from HNL and find JAL and ANA superior to the local and other US carriers. If I fly a US carrier, I almost always have to fly in a premium cabin because economy is too uncomfortable.
If you noticed, for the 787, JAL is the only one with 8 abreast (2-4-2) seating. Standard is 9 (3-3-3).
Service is impeccable. Cabin crew always busy working. I regularly see them clean the lavatory.

Had no idea that JAL was the only 8. Good to know! And totally agree with you on US flights - it's ridiculous how little legroom they give you nowadays in economy😑

What I find amazing is the actual dishes look EXACTLY like they are in the pictures.
When was the last time THAT happened ?

Great informative review. I will be flying JAL in October from LAX to KIX. I believe it’s their 787-8 or -9. I’m sorry to hear about their meal service. I wanted to say that the food is prepared at the LAX facility and maybe that’s why it was so poor, but when I saw the Japan outbound flight wasn’t so good either, then maybe JAL needs to do something about it. I still look forward to my economy flight because of the extra space.

Yeah the food was disappointing (especially for JAL), but we loved everything else about it! We would go with JAL every single time if we could. Have a great flight!

😊I missed Jal , going to visit families in Thailand for decades, we used to go with ANA or Jal cause we love landing in Japan but the price is too expensive nowadays. We’re leaving again to BKK this summer and we had to opt out of JAL for EVA this time cause of the price 😅 and I do totally agree with y’all about the rice has to be perfect in certain way, being half Asian as well, I would had complained about my rice too 😂 Thank you for sharing this review, like always love 💕 y’all’s videos!!!

How was the cabin temp on your flight? I’ve read that JAL cabins can be too warm and that’s making me a little nervous 😅

    • @travelpockets
      @travelpockets  Před 21 dnem

It's definitely warmer on JAL flights than other airlines. We're comfortable with warmer temps but if you don't like that, definitely dress lighter.

Ever since JAL have their flight here in San Diego, I always take that flight to Manila via Narita. I have been taking JAL for the past 6 years. No need for me to go to LAX. Great service, superb performance, friendly flight crew. In your video, it seems you did not avail their on-line check in?

Your so lucky you get to fly from San Diego! We would much prefer that😭
