Mark Gonzalez and John Coltrane... Woah this is so much heavier now that I am older...
same here.
3:03 I always thought that was slick, how the half cab flows right into the ramp skating
It’s maybe hard for some younger skaters to appreciate, but so much of this was NBD/next level at the time. Probably the most influential skater in history.
that's an absolute FACT !!
He’s definitely up there but I would always give most influential to Mullen. Much love to the Gonz for sure though.
@@AvoidingHumanSociety agreed
@@AvoidingHumanSociety yep yep
AND THE SPOTS!
so may spots before they were famous in this video.
This video introduced me to the concept of lines. More than one trick per shot. Changed the world.
Flows like water. And i can always watch Gonz skate to jazz ...especially to Trane!
this part was playing in the party house scene in KIDS. 1995. legendary.
I just realized that too😃
Gonz cameo'd in Korine's "Gummo" a few years later, too. Totally insane scene.
Thats why Im here!!!
This part always puts a smile on my face. Freedom, baby. "We are the music makers... and we are the dreamers of dreams."
If this part came out today it would be the most exciting part of the year. Hands down. Go home Nyjah, go home Jagger, Go home Milton... THIS IS SKATEBOARDING!!! GOD BLESS YOU GONZO
The up down boardslide though! I'll always remember that.
hi ninja
damn it feels good to be a skater
Now this is some damn good jazz
I talked to a younger skater a few weeks ago about influential skaters from my time frame. One of the tops on my short list was Gonz. The young man had never heard of him. I couldn't believe it. I told him to watch this part.

@@treny1962 what’s 1?
maybe Rodney’s part in powell 1 is the best… his practice sesh at Delmar. he single handedly laid down a dozen street skating foundational tricks no one would learn for another 5-10 years lol
Makes me proud to be a skateboarder/artist...
5:56
I recognise that kinked rail from THPS2!
just perfect video
Simple skating like this is funner to watch. And to do
Simply the best
this video rewire your brain about life in general
my favorite skater ever
0:35 pure old school swag
WE ARE THE MUSICMAKERS AND WE ARE THE DREAMERS OF THE DREAMS. this part is like a jazz musician just riffin.
99% of pro skaters will never understand the meaning of skating…. Gonz puts it all out right here. Fun:)
Hell yeah dude
Gonzo is the G.O.A.T. so stylish and unique.
The frustrating thing about this section is that he had to leave Vision to get a proper section other than his Pyscho Skates montage, his ads and his contest/skate rock vid clips. I heard that there was an entire section for Barge at Will that got pulled right after he quit Vision.
mark gonzales it was revolucionary to the world of skateboarding
Gonz could refilm this whole part today on a five foot long two foot wide board
Goddamn great music choice!
Lmao I'm sorry did he just try to smith INTO the curb after that 'ol one eighty Manny pivot?Lol goat asf
Classic
I've watched this plenty of times but only just noticed that Mark does a switch manual and later a switch frontside ollie to bench.
Gonzales name needs to be there with Mullen and Hawk and others that you can add. I started in the late 80's so defer
Gonz is the Jimi Hendrix of skating
Long live GONZ
His style was way ahead of his time !
Wallenberg looks brand new lol
Never seen a stail fish method!
This in 60fps is a whole different feeling ❤
u wanna watch it in it’s native format
What Coltrane song?
So blind. Co. Is this old, had no idea...
you don't get called the G.O.A.T. for naught !
If Pat Metheny had picked up a skateboard instead of a guitar
It’s weird that I started skating in 2001 and still to this day, having watched this like 10 times in my life I still don’t like it for some reason. I guess I don’t appreciate the fact that he was the first to do most of the things in this video, and he was the first who combined style with (kind of) hard tricks. So yeah probably it has its important piece in the skate-culture.
I think maybe I don’t like it that much is because I wasn’t yet skating when this came out, and later when I started watching skating most of the new guys did way gnarlier shit.
You sound like you rode the short bus to school. Life doesnt start and stop around you. Just because you were late to skating doesnt take any thing away from this.
@@usernotfound904 but there is… the lack of feelings towards Mark Gonzales’ video days part. That’s what it takes away bro. That’s what I’m talking about. This is a comment section where I can write my opinion freely. Some people feel different than you. You feel me? I think if we see skateboarding 100 years from now, what will hold up from this era is PJ Ladd, Bastien Salabanzi and Tom Penny. Because they skated better and much more stylish than Mark Gonzales.
i started skating around the same time. that’s when i first saw this, too. i think just ‘cause the wave of culture had moved on so much, i kind of got on and rode from that.
honestly, i didn’t know much about mark and kinda didn’t really care. i knew he was revered but just didn’t have an interest in looking back.
but i’ve started to appreciate him so much in the last few years. maybe it’s because i’ve been alive long enough to have an appreciation for time and progression.
when i see his tricks, i’m seeing the unique mind it took to even imagine doing them when there was no concept of people already having done it.
it’s not often we get to see the truly brilliant innovators paint the world in new ways.
who knows, maybe you’ll come back to his videos some day in the future and get something new out of it!
This is a perfect video part. You will learn to love it. Lines, style, ramps, switch mixed with reg, handrails, gaps, the music. It will grow on you.
Best answer: You had to be there.
Seeing Mark in that Israel shirt shirt is so disappointing
Bro stfu nobody cares
Who gives a fuck what shirt this guy was wearing 35 years ago. Jesus fucking Christ
I was hoping for no jazz and well....
Gonz + video part + Jazz = Life changing
@@tacklefatkids & world changing!
