Hey guys here’s a tip. Just because you haven’t seen anyone blow up yet at WR doesn’t mean we’re hurting there. We have a ton of talent there. Our two best receivers were redshirt freshman for fuck sake. And yes we do run the ball. Very well. Which is going to make Traylon Ray harder to cover. Remember that name. You’re going to be ooohing and ahhhing over that guy. Hudson Clement is the other Red. Sophomore who’s pretty damn good himself and one of the fastest guys on the team. So tired of people that halfway do their research. Well haven’t heard of any of these guys they just suck ! Brilliant research guys. I’m not gonna finish and I’m taking my like 👍
Exactly! The transfers at WR are going to produce also. We brought in Jackson and French on the D line that are going to help on the pass rush side of things
100% true. For example, Nobody knew who David Sills and Gary Jennings were at some point either.
Well I gotta be honest Ray was a true freshman who didn’t even come to campus till the last minute because he had to finish baseball. Already the best blocking wideout on the team.

I closely follow this team, its roster, player development, etc and I think people are highly undervaluing how good this offense will be this season & this defense as well. That will be good enough to compete at a CFP level... I can rebuttal every negative mentioned here... Such as Greene dependent on 3 true freshmen WRs last season, which all outperformed and have taken healthy steps forward this offseason, the portal additions of Bray & Robinson, the incoming freshmen WRs that all run 4.3 or 4.2 40s that will be good enough to leverage for some production after the first few games..
The new Def assistant to help with pass rush, the portal additions, like Jackson, French, how Bradley came on strong towards the end of last season. How CJ was hurt all season with a shoulder injury which def effected his game last year, so while many people are looking to White, and his game should improve & expand, CJ should have a much better year as well. Returning talent on every level on defense, the additions at Safety, CB, & LB, Trotter & Lathan duo at LB. Out of all the top A-list QBs at this summers Manning Passing Academy Greene was one of its best performers. Returning talent on OL, DL, the game plan to fully leverage the ability of this offense to maintain superior ToP to ensure a higher baseline for this defense throughout the season. The skillset diversity of the offense to attack from any position group(Height, Size, or Speed+Shiftiness) to reduce predictabilities and maintain higher efficiency. All conference caliber players at every level of this defense(Martin, Bradley+French, Trotter+Lathan, Burks, Joseph, Hollis). Ive heard some people say "But they dont have that 1 dominant WR"... Id rather have 4 quality options than 1 outstanding one. The benefits of diversification seeps into other areas of the offense. Bray, J.Robinson, Ray, Clement, Gallanger, & incoming WRs in DayDay Farmer, K.Robinson, D.Collins. Kole Taylor taking another step and being a reliable 3rd down conversion target...
HOT TAKE:
WVU upsets PSU, wins all their out of conference games. Has 2 regular season conference losses, but still makes the CFP due to a #8 SoS. IF..... IF WVU remains healthy, they have the talent, skillsets, & experience to play in big time games at the end of this season. Its not going to be easy, and theyll absolutely be in a 4-6 tough battles, but if they can remain healthy and get a couple bounces go their way(no hail mary losses), they have a shot at having a fantastic season.

Dreaming. I was born and raised in WV. Love the Mountaineers. Just can't compete entirely with the big programs on a consistent basis. Only going to get harder. NIL will see to that. I wish I were wrong, but bank on it! I'm old school from back in the Don Nehlen era. So I know what I am talking about....
Ok old school... btw so am I... WVU isnt a program that can compete nationally every season, but every 4 years or so they can. A bit of a longer stretch this go around due to how Dana H left the program.
WVU dont need a bunch of millionaires to have a top NIL program. We just need the average fan contributing their small part. 25,000 fans contributing just $30 per month is an additional $9Mill per year. 50,000 is $18Million.
I think theres 50,000 fans that can easily afford $30 per month. As people become more aware of NIL and accept the new reality, and I think after this year when more success is shown on the field more fans will continue to contribute.
This WVU team has the talent, skillsets, & experience on both sides of the ball to get there if.... IF we can remain mostly healthy. 2018 was another team that could have if Grier didnt give OU 2 fumble TDs(What are the probabilities of that happening).
The difference now however is the offensive philosophies we deploy. Those that help take pressure OFF the defense, which is directly opposite to Dana H concepts.
No 2 loss Big12 team makes the cfp without winning the league. The league will be lucky to get a second team even with one loss. That’s just the scenario that has been created. Competitive conference but no elite teams.
West Virginia had two true freshmen starting WRs, give it time boys.. They brought in some dudes from the portal in that secondary, they also have some of their best safeties returning.. It’s gonna be a fun year
WVU LB's are going to shock folks and we have WR's that will take a next step. Joe is right. WVU fans know football and they typically call it like it is. WVU will have a rabid crowd at the PSU game and could win that game.

33 sacks last year, not sure where you are getting 7. They lead the Big12 in sacks and was the best team in sacks allowed.
You didn’t mention the linebacker room at all. And it is stacked this season! Josiah Trotter is back and healthy as ever. After missing all of last season. And also Trey Latham. Who was having a phenomenal season until injury in the 4th game of the year sidelined him.
WVU is loaded with talent on both sides of the ball. You guys need to do yout homework. WVU will be playing in the Big 12 Championship game.

Rodney Gallagher is going to hurt people from the WR spot. Trey Lathan was a stud rushing the passer until he was injured at TCU. Now we have Lathan and Trotter back and depth behind them. The defensive front seven will be on QBs like white is on rice. The transfer CBs WVU brought in were some of the best that the transfer portal had to offer..... the kids from Northwestern and Jax State are going to be very damn good. Blake, you're wrong my man, very, very wrong

I am sorry, been a born and bread Wv fanatic and I have studied them. Thier recieving core is going to surprise you. Thier depth is very good. Thats all i will say. Go head and sleep on this team but i m telling you they dont have to take a back seat to anybody. This is what is great about college football, very exciting
Penn St and Pitt out of conference.
Our schedule is more difficult this year so if we get to 9 wins again it’s a great year!

The reason you didn’t see much production from playmakers last year was because most production was from young guys who are all returning. Don’t forget that Jaheim White, Traylon Ray, Rodney Gallagher and many others were all freshman last year. Hudson Clement, one of our best receivers was a walk-on. These guys now have a year or two of experience under their belt. The defense has greatly been improved. Your point on only 7 sacks, we now have a true edge rusher in Ty French, which we didn’t have last year. The linebacker room has made a complete turnaround along with the secondary. Keep doubting us, you did last year and you see what happened.
Blake you need to do a little more homework on teams. Because the very issues you addressed Brown addressed in the portal.
Joe is onto something....WVU will surprise people with this team. Alot of youung receivers in their 2nd season playing together but they have talent. Look for WVU to make a run towards the Big12 Title game. This will be the year of the Mountaineer! First week of the season will set the pace with an upset win at home against Penn State.

WVU had 33 sacks last year. That's ranked 38 in the country. Nothing too special but certainly not bad at all... That's ahead of Texas, Clemson, Georgia, LSU, etc. These guys just talk out of their ass.

We had major injuries to our secondary last year - 2 lost for the season. Trey Lathan & Josiah Trotter. And then there was the ugly Aubrey Burks injury. Our secondary was severely impacted.
WVU runs a base 3-2-6. That explains both the amount of DBs in and the lack of sacks. Its not a quality of player but a scheme. Its the flexbone on deffense. Make the other team take 12-15 plays to score. Force them to slow the game down increase the probability for errors.
If they go 12-0 with that schedule they are winning a natty.

12-0 just gets them to the bottom of tier one teams. PSU would be the only team close to elite, and they would have to beat at least twice as much. NC won’t be won in conference.

Neal Brown has also added some players from the portal including depth at WR. Joe > Blake. My pre season prediction is the ceiling is 10-2 with the floor being 8-4.
I LOVE when people underestimate us. Our WR room is very talented. All they do is catch the ball. Watch Greene just ball this year.

Of course, everyone wants to make intriguing content (hell, it prompted me to comment). . . but WVU won 9 games in 2023. They probably finished in the top 10 in time of possession nationally. WVU controls games with the run. It takes the pressure off offense, defense and special teams alike. If they can be disciplined and control penalties and add a plus margin for takeaways, you'll see them in the college playoffs. Everyone is looking at the wrong numbers. If there was ever a team and coach analogous to the Oakland A's and Billy Bean Moneyball philosophy, it's WVU and Neal Brown. Shit - WVU has, out of necessity, been the Moneyball team forever. If I'm a young coach, I'm begging for a gig in Morgantown.

WVU was a contender in the conference before Holgorsen destroyed our talent base and we are going to contend now that Brown is rebuilding that talent base.
