  • The BMW plant in Berlin has been one of the most important international locations in motorcycle construction for decades. Two-wheelers manufactured here are traded worldwide. The product range of the Bavarian automotive group includes a variety of models, including agile cross machines, sporty cruisers or environmentally friendly electric motorcycles. Special wishes? No problem. Bikes that go beyond the usual standard version can also be made to measure in Berlin. Among other things our BMW documentary shows the creation of a BMW S 1000 RR Superbike.

Amazing video on BMW motorcycle plant. You can’t beat German precision engineering and building. These plants today are amazing for the technology that is in them. Those engines in the double R are machined like a fine watch. Almost 300 km/h top speed and just shy of 200 h.p. not to be sneezed at or ridden by a novice.👍👍

Amazing video. They obviously had special access to the factory. Animations are professionally done. It amazes me that they can afford so much automation for motorcycles made in such limited quantities (compared to cars). Think it's hard to build a production line for a motorcycle? They run eight different models down the same production line. If I got the 34 motorcycles every two hours right that means that each stage has 211 seconds to complete operations. U shaped lines are used so that more or fewer workers can work on the line (you can turn around to work on the second station (if necessary). Cellular manufacturing. This allows them to cope with changes in demand (as well as changing the 211 seconds per station (takt time)). Of course, there are separate sub-assembly lines as well as final assembly. 15:35 "The hose for the air box is secured with a kind of surgical clamp." Back in the '60's we used to call those "roach clips". While the video mostly covered manufacturing, they did touch on product development. Racing is a confirmation of the correctness of the design and the correctness of the manufacturing.

Best looking BMW bike was the R100RS, the R80 RT was nice for touring, my 75 R90/S was fast and smooth but that swingarm needed some bracing, it cornered wobbly, unlike the MotoGuzzi 850 which was top heavy and like to fall into turns, my 750 Commando outcornered them both but was hard to kickstart with a combat engine. never understood the K series with the sewing machine engine, the later models had too much plastic, lost the simplicity of design except for the R80 G/S. Miss simpler bikes that didn't need specialized test equipment. Now I appreciate bikes from the sidelines. Body getting too old.

They don't pick up bikes off the ground and they don't kickstart anything but their ass. Other than that, they are as right as rain, unless they get some inner ear balance problems. As a BMW owner, I advise you to get a more sensible Japanese bike. You will not have a good owner experience with a BMW. They are overpriced and the quality is not up to par. You will undoubtedly spend too much for the bike, repairs and even insurance. Don't buy anything you cannot comfortably afford. If you are "working hard" to afford a BMW, you cannot afford it. You will not be able to maintain it properly due to the high cost of BMW parts, repairs and ownership.
BMW does not make any "entry level" models. Most BMWs are either too heavy or too powerful for a new rider. Everybody wants to buy their dream bike for their first bike. The people who buy too much bike for their experience level end up getting seriously hurt or killed. Start with a smaller, lighter bike and work your way to bigger and more powerful bikes as your skill level and experience allows. Once you have had a few different bikes, (and hopefully you are making a decent living by then) this would be a better time in your life to buy a BMW motorcycle.
Just like giving a car to a newly licensed driver, you are looking for trouble if you gave them an exotic car compared to a Honda Civic. As a driver becomes more experienced and mature, then it is a better idea to buy a supercar or sportscar.

7 of us bought beemers. And only 2 didn't have any trouble. Replacement wiring looms (complete loom) replacement ECU's, replacement cams on a lc with 7k on the clock. My first R9T broke down on holiday with an electrical problem with 9k on the clock so I traded it for a second R9T. It now has 9k on the clock and I have a different electrical problem that bmw can't identify. I hope to get this bike fixed but I swear, never ever will i buy another bmw. They can make the floor as shiney as they like but if parts are being sourced in China or wherever the labour is cheap then there is gonna be real expensive problems for customers that bikes are out of warranty. Buy Japanese.
