sweetie I love you so hard, but as a massage therapist who went to school for 3 years, did a practicum, and continues to get certification in plenty of health modalities... I didn’t appreciate a huge part of this conversation. I love you and I have no problem with sex workers but this is a stigma in the industry I have to face regularly. As a woman I’ve only had one experience (luckily only one) where a man was under the impression that I might do something, even though I work out of a registered health facility, luckily we have security in my building and they escorted him out before he became violent. I’m still getting therapy from that encounter. Needless to say, these misconceptions have lead to me and a lot of my coworkers being sexually harassed or at worse assaulted. I know you or others may think I’m taking this joke too seriously and maybe I am.. I just felt like I had to say something. Too many people don’t know how much these ideas affect our careers. This kind of “masseuse” or “massage” you’re referring to is not what massage is, and I just want people to recognize that fully. I really do love you girl, I hope I worded this in such a way where you can see my intention. ❤️

This whole conversation made me happy. Respectfully discussing something important with love. It’s the best way, and Victoria’s response completely proves that (it also helps that she is an amazing person too I’m sure). Well done girl. I also agree completely with you. I’m a woman who was actually sexually assaulted by a male masseuse, and I am still suffering with the affects to this day. It sucks that sex and massage therapy can even be in the same conversation. For me, the man assumed that because he was stereotypically ‘good looking’ that I would be ‘up for it’ during a pedicure and I wasn’t, of course. Keep doing what you are doing girl. These kinds of instances are rare, but they happen, and ending the sexual discussion around massages, informing people that this isn’t okay, that consent is not given in whichever circumstance, that a sexual expectation from a man of a woman to provide sexual pleasure in such a vulnerable position- it can surely only help in educating people that those two things do not go together and hopefully end this stigma. This should have never happened to you, and I’m sorry it did. Sending you so much love and healing thoughts. Thank you for talking about it.

I feel super shitty about it now that I've learned more about gender and grown into a more accepting person. EVERYTHING YOU SAID IS TRUE! I’m not trans but I’m gay and when I was in high school I was really the only gay guy there. I wanted to be the gay guy that wasn’t a stereo-type so I would watch a lot of anti-LGBT content. It felt good to be accepted by my peers and not so alienated, but I’ve come to realize how toxic I was being and that people will hate me regardless. And also how dumb I was being hating on my own community just for the acceptance of people who will never care about me.
