Clara always uses Pecorino Romano
She is so adorable at the end when she said "and then you sit down because you're tired".
I'm a college student on a tight budget, and I love watching these videos because they give me ideas for cheap, healthy meals. Clara is great!
There is something so remarkable about her. I would have loved to hang out in her kitchen.
"I think it's better like I am, I flare up and get it over with. People that don't get mad, when they get mad, beware."
Ha, so true.
I've made Clara's egg drop soup several times and it has always turned out delicious. Depression Era cooking was simple, economical and nutritious, and with the economy as bad as it looks like it's going to stay for a long while, all those old recipes are new again...
I just found out she passed away a few months ago so sad rest in peace
awww. My great grandma just turned 95 and this makes me realize how much I take her for granted...I've gotta start visiting her before shes gone... :(
I don't know which is more entertaining....listening to her teach me how to be a resourceful cook, or listening to the stories from back in the day. Ms. Clara is not only interesting, but educational.
Its June 2018 and I'm in love with Clara's videos. RIP beautiful lady! I aim to be a grandma like you one day
Sigh, haters are all stupid. She is basically teaching us how to budget and cook good meals
I'm going to agree with everyone on how awesome this is.
It may be depression cooking, but it is certainly great for college students!
I’m surprised no one is commenting on the story she told about her brother pranking her by putting a garden snake in an envelope with her name on it and putting it in the mailbox, and it scared her so badly. I thought that was hilarious!
I think it's sad how you see mean comments on most videos, but she makes it almost impossible. She is such a sweet lady!
She really makes me miss both my grandparents. They had lived through the depression and had many experiences to share
look at her using that knife like such a pro. god shes cool
Clara, my dear, you are truly a national treasure! Watching you and the love in the care you put into your dishes makes me miss my grandma so much! I've watched three or four of your videos, some say that you are 91, while others say you are 93. I even ran across one telling us that you were 98 years old. In any case, you are truly amazing!!!
She is adorable, love her..God Bless....
This is fantastic, I was able to feed my family of six today because we are in a depression now!
I could sit and listen to these wonderful lady all day long, what a sweetheart! Clara is a great teacher. Anyone would be lucky to have her in their family.
should I live into my 90s, I want to be just like Clara. I love her attitude and the recipes are fantastic! I made the pizza a while ago and it was probably the best I've ever had, hands down.
I have always wondered what people used to eat during the depression. Now, thanks to Clara, I know. I have tried several of these wonderful meals and passed the recipes on to friends. To watch Clara's video is an added treat. She seams like such a wonderful person. I know her family is so proud of her. Just one more thing. Clara can NOT be in her 90's. You put a big smile on my face every time I watch you. God bless you, Clara.
Thank you Clara for sharing your recipes and stories!
You were so right.... people WERE much happier with less than all people in this crazy spoiled world.
Rest In Peace lovely lady
he got a good whipping that time, i love it
Wonderful! I love her spirit. A fine story teller. Love that this important bit of human history is being recounted by a real person.
Another really cheap meal that I grew up eating:
1/2 pound of egg noodles
1 small green onion or 1/4 of a regular onion
1 can of chili, with or without meat, however spicy you want.
1/4 teaspoon minced garlic
Cook the noodles, drain them, and leave in the strainer. Use the pot to heat the chili, garlic, and onion (minced) for about 5 minutes or until the chili is hot. Add the drained noodles, season to taste with salt and pepper and eat. I usually top it with a little parmesan cheese
I love this lady! She is so sweet and always has a good story to tell while she cooks! Such a good role model!
This is real cooking, not that fancy shmancy stuff.
Cooking should be about family and memories, these combined with foods that require small but flavorful foods set cooking to an entire new level after the depression.
Don't get me wrong, that fancy stuff is pretty impressive but you just can't beat a meal served like this.
yes, a truly beautiful woman......to all of you with Grandmothers, talk with them every moment you get because as you get older, you start to see your older relatives leave us....i lost my last Grandparent on Easter 2012 so again appreciate what you have and value all wisdom they give you.......@Clara, you go young lady! *cool*
Clara, I absolutely love you!
I love to eat simply and believe if we all ate what people of your generation ate that the world would be much more healthy. I enjoy your stories and appreciate them very much. You are such an inspiration, Thank you!
I wish I lived close to you. I would come over and mow your lawn or something. :)
This looks good. When I make it I'll do it in a large skillet and then at the end drop a few extra whole eggs in and poach them in the soup. That'll be good on toast!
The way she cuts is the way I cut for a very long time. Now I remember I learned it from grandma. No need for a cutting board. I've finally gotten used to doing it the "proper" way.
You can tell she has a great sense of humor you changed me in 5:00 min. Thxs and I'm gonna make this :)
this isnt the traditional asian egg drop i was looking for however.. it looks yummy and will be going into the menu. My grandmother taught me how to cook and to date, the best recipe book I have is the one she gave me from pre WW2. Clara is great !!
Oh My!!!!!! U r such a Precious Lady...I TREASURE YOUR RECIPES AND VIDEOS!!!!! SIMPLY AWESOME....GOD HAS REALLY BLESSED YOU!!!!
I miss her recipes and wisdom
i love her. she is so down to earth! i love her cooking tools. nothing fancy.
Don't you just love people who live more according to habit than behavior? Cures my feelings of impending death that's for sure.
Thanks spiritual grandmama! Thanks Mr. Cannelloni!
Aw you are so adorable. NO one cooks better than someone with experience such as yourself.
This is the same kind of food my grandma used to cook for me when I was a kid. She wasn't a great cook, but her soft-boiled eggs on toast was really delicious.
My husband and I have made a few of her recipes, and they are good and cheap!! We love her sooooo much
I so enjoy being with her as it were.
god bless this lady so sweet. and true history lessons,
i think im gonna cry i wanna hug her!
Great videos! I've gotten a lot of really good ideas on making inexpensive meals from fresh ingredients. Thank you Clara for your knowledge. RIP
I just love your kitchen, reminds me of my grandmothers. She loves to cook and tell stories of her childhood. Thank you Clara, for your lovely videos
I absolutely Love this series, Thank you GG (what i called my great grandmother) Clara, Your recipes are magnificent. Simple to make, Simple Ingredients, anything but simple Taste.
I love the end part about sitting down because you are bit tired Clara. My grandmother in Germany used to make a similar soup (she would be over 100 by now if she had lived). She used chicken broth and whisked the egg and strained it through a fork into the soup so it looked like noodles. I bet it tasted simlilar to yours. I will try it and find out.
Love you Clara! You remind me of my own Gramma who is no longer living... I love your can-do spirit... and all the widsom and anecdotal things you share... God bless you!
God bless Clara. Miss her mucho. She was the best.
Love ya Clara! The first time I saw you, it brought a tear to my eye to see you still cooking. You're awesome girl. I hope God will bless me with long life like you and a sharp mind also. I love your recipes, thanks for sharing your secrets.
"bout a half a pot full"
now that is someone who knows how to cook - just second nature. no talk of cups or litres, just "half a pot full"
clara, you're inspirational. when I have a family I am going to use some of these recipes. they are easy, nutritious, and taste great. thank you for doing this!! xx
Thank you Miss Clara....I adore you!
Love to know more about depression era meals. Thanks for sharing.
I love watching this girl! I lover her little stories...people from this age are so insightful in such a delightfully simple way :) And its wonderful that she's so active! I want to be up and about when I up in age!
"NEEDS A LITTLE MORE SALT!" yup that's what I always say!
Gonna make your egg drop soup right now. Thanks for sharing. :)
Aww I love Clara so cute and sweet makes me wanna be a better person just from listening to her stories!
She must be doing something right to be so healthy to this age & still so much energy!
Thanks for sharing your life stories. It really make us appreicate life and don't take anything for granted.
Clara thank you! We should all cook this way and we would be healthier and more self sufficient. Love to you and your family.
OMG, my mouth is watering! I MUST HAVE THIS SOUP!!
Total surprise here. I was thinking you were making chinese egg drop soup but this looks so much better. More like a whole meal!
A lot of your cooking methods remind me of how people cook in Dominican Republic (where i live). We don't use a lot of 'modern' cooking tools like rice cookers or coffee machines. We just use our big ol' pots and what not.
My grandma doesn't believe in throwing away food either. She uses up every last bit.
Im writing from Rome. So heartwarming. you're a doll Clara! These soups are great!
Amazing lady! Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it. Shame on those spoiled brats who gave this a thumbs down!!
Awesome! Makes me miss my Nana. :) Thank you
Clara, Thank you for letting us see into your life and our history. I made your cookies last night. they were wonderful.
Love,
Nancy
She has to be Italian, she tends to put tomato sauce, olive oil and cheese in most of her recipes. She is so sweet.
Clara, You are so delightful. I love your stories & cooking. You are a ray of sunshine.
but.. Potatoes are the most delicious food .
:)
Wow, she really looks good for 91. Awesome vid btw.
I know what you mean about eggs being expensive nowadays, my friend. I buy the value variety now, but I feel kinda bad because they're from battery hens, which are kept in small cages. :( I'm trying to work my way up to Free range eggs, but because my budget is so tight, I can't afford it right now. I'm being paid a little more from a few weeks time onwards, so I'll be going free range.
Keep up the good work, Clara, you're an angel for sharing this all with us!
Jay from London, England.
I love watching you. I thought growing up these were comfort food dishes, I didn't know they were depressions dishes..love them just the same and I'm still cooking these for my family as an easy one dish dinner. Hugs to you and bring this to us again after all this time. M
My mom was raised in the depression, I was raised on this food for the most part, and lots of beans...she made tons of baking powder biscuits, and corn bread...Tons of cookies, vats of cookies...Potatoes, fried with onions, hamburger, never hot dogs, as I remember...hot dogs were ate as hot dogs...Memories...
Thanks, Clara. That was wonderful. I love the stories about your brother mixed in.
A heartful dish of a wonderful cook!
@YTSparty - soup has always been the best budget friendly food ever. one potato, a few eggs, an onion on a piece of bread does fill, but not as much as the broth from a soup combined with all those ingredients. water fills you up and makes you feel less hungry. (dieting trick) the same ingredients without a soup would feed maybe two or three. as a soup you can easily feed double or more. and it doesnt look disgusting boiled, its just a different style of cooking.
Thanks for teaching me to appreciate what I have! I'm a university student so these recipes are great for me =)
Clara is an amazing lady. She's survived her whole life on food like this, so there is a big lesson to be learned here. ;)
I will be watching all of your videos, and downloading them all, as I want to put them on DVD to show my friends, if that's ok with you. Cara is an inspiration, and is very kid to share this information with us.
Thank you Clara!
Jay, from London, England.
I really love old people!! There just too cute!!
Clara you are great! I miss cooking in the kitchen with my grandma and you bring back fond memories when I get to watch your videos
I love you, Clara. You are so precious!
Hi! Thank you for sharing your technique and knowledge. I am of the new school coming to make videos, and I wanted to say how wonderful it is to learn your cooking methods and hear your stories.
Looks like stracciatella. I'm definitely going to try this myself.
That's exactly what I was thinking. Every time she smiled and laughed I just couldn't help myself from smiling too.
My grandmother always said "Not enough salt" in everything she cooked. I just love hearing Clara talk about it. Brings back my Grandma too me... thank you
Love you Clara! You Rock!
Clara is so darn cute. I can't stop watching her. She reminds me of my grandmother who I miss dearly.
I'm going to make this too. :) Looks delish! I need to make sure I don't forget the toast. :)
Thumbs up...way up for Ms. Clara!
Thank you so much Clara!!
Thanks for another great episode, Clara. You've got a great smile.
Awesome lady,,, I love watching her cook & listening to her stories... It's amazing to think, how hard it was back then for people...
My kids and I made this for lunch today and they LOVED it! Thank you, Clara :)
I think the thing to remember is that many people grew their own veggies back then with drops the cost. Also if you had a chicken that's free eggs. All of our stuff comes from the store these days.
She is so adorable I can't get enough of her and the way she says potatoes.
Hi Clara
I think the biggest lesson I'm learning here is a person doesn't have to have a wide variety of foods to nourish themselves, just keep it simple and have different foods week by week. Maybe that would be cheaper, too. The food you prepare looks really delicious. --Bette
I had a dream about heaven. I saw grandma and my aunt outdoors. They were very busy making the preparations for a dinner on the grounds (home coming outdoor picnic).
Thanks for all those videos. I love watching you, Clara. Your family is lucky to have you!
This looks delicious too. Same as episode one. I love the food and it's so simple and cheap!
