The Picture of Dorian Gray criticism had a real “this book taught me surprisingly little about killing mockingbirds” vibe
It was either that or the writer of that review basically going… “I cannot picture a very handsome man in my head”
I can recommend the 1945 movie if you want to see the Picture
😂
I do rather like some books that do sketches of the scenes at the end of the chapter or start. Though I admit a lot of them don't even really relate to well to what was written. I could see at the end of the book there being a black and white sketch of the 'Picture' perhaps half faded at the very end after the last page. Could be a nice little bookend to it. Would rather like to see more books doing the whole sketches in the book. Like Monster Hunting stories where the main character is killing many different monsters or beasts? Be cool to have little sketches of the beast and small 'hand written' notes about it's weakness, strengths. Like a diagram and notes on it's coloring and habits. Little things like that can really boost a book's immersion.
@@dubbingsync To be fair: That's actually the case for me. At best I'd think of a real guy that I think is handsome, but I wouldn't be able to keep that image consistent and definitely not be able to adjust to guy I'm thinking of to have specific characteristics 😅 (Not full on aphantasia for me, but close and definitely can't focus on that faint image I've conjured.)
Merphy's confidence in guessing Lies Of Locke Lamora before Korey says nope 😂
I just love how Merphy's husband enjoys messing with her, LoL.
"Oh, you do take delight in vexing me"
“Whats wrong with you?? Youre like 34 you should not be drawing on your face”
And the award for the most wholesome couple goes toooo
12:14 Korey: “I thought they were British”
Merphy: “Well yes, but no”
This video was hilarious
I feel like the only reason Korey was pointing out the dates was to show how far back he was reading reviews and the effort he put in. Kudos dude! :D
I feel the only reason was to give a hint that it is an older book
I love that the Disney one was like half the video. Just perfect
It's actually funny how many disney adaptations are at leas somewhat confusing when you think about it...
Alice in Wonderland and Peter Pan would've been my first and second guess since they are literally about confusing dreams and childrens' imagination.
The energy you guys emanate…
I can’t! The banter, the jokes, the partnership… this video is amazing in so many different ways! Keep them coming, we love it!
3:50 such confidence even threw in a dance. Only to be turned down HAH 😂
I have never seen anything more wholesome than this ENTIRE video. 😂😂
Can we have another video with Merphy yelling at Korey to stop drawing on his face? That was EPIC!! 😂😂😂😂
I read The Giver in 6th and 7th grade and I always hated the ending because it just stopped in the middle of something!! I didn’t find out until I was an adult that there are more books ☺️ Not a single one of my teachers ever said that. I still feel bamboozled 🙃
Today I learned 😳
I read one of the later books and didn't realize intil the end that it was the same universe. Just thought it was the same author.
ARE YOU KIDDING?? I was obsessed with the giver when I read it in elementary school and I never knew there were more😭 guess it’s time for a reread then!
there's more books??!??!?!!??!?
I actually love The Giver because of how ambiguous the ending is and I think the sequels ruin that
I screamed "Alice In Wonderland!" at the screen for like five minutes and it wasn't even it. 😐
Great video! I'm a new subscriber and I'm very happy about that decision.
Same here! The description fit Alice much more, than Pooh.
Omg me too!
It doesn’t fit Alice because Alice was written by a pedophile to groom a child of a family friend, not by a parent to “confuse” their own child.
@@KittyxKult I mean, You're not wrong...
Well yes it is, but no
Also, with the swearing one: I immediately thought of Abercrombie, and I haven’t even read any of his books. You’re losing your touch, Merph! hahahaha
Same here lol. I literally was wondering if that was the First Blade trilogy or another of his books.
I actually thought it was Lies of Locke Lamora immediately like her, but as soon as her husband said no my next thought was The Blade Itself (also I agree with the review about both books tbh XD)
@@00ammy00 I haven’t read either of them so I wouldn’t know… but it made more sense in my head that Korey wouldn’t include her favorite book in this one, idk why hahaha
Haha yes, here's to knowing a lot about a bunch of books just from booktube, without actually having read them 😂
@@giuliakenway6500 you’ve described my entire lifestyle lol
Korey's schadenfreude at Merphy not getting Winnie the Pooh was delightful.
I love the two of you together in videos, it's so wholesome and delightful. "YOU ARE 34" just killed me for some reason
If the insult has undulate in it, you know Merphy will riot XD
Yep!
And it been fun to watch 😂
"Look at when it was written" is going to be my new obscure catch phrase that my wife will definitely not understand.
You guys are so wonderful! Going to go search for the gerbil channel now 😂
I love The Blade Itself, but that review was honestly 100% accurate lmao
So glad the drawing on forehead part stayed in. That was hilarious!
Korey randomly pulling out "The Boulder" made my morning 😂
7:44 I was so confident it was Alice in Wonderland I felt like Merphy and her confidence with Locke Lamora 🤣
The whole time I was like “I think I know what it is…”
And I did not. 😅
Korey needs to be in more videos. He is hilarious
This was such fun! And we read the Great Gatsby in 8th grade. And that was way too young to grapple with those themes. And Corey seems so nice!
Louisa May Alcott was the daughter of Bronson Alcott, who was a lesser known transcendentalist along with Thoreau and Emerson! Thank you 11th Grade Lit History lmao
These are always fun, I love them
The only reason why I remember that Louisa May Alctorr is American and not British is because the character based on her in Bungo Stray Dogs is from America. I was also surprised to find out she's not British.
...she's in Bungo Stray Dogs? Now I really want to check that series out at some point
Growing up I always thought it was Canadian like Anne of Green Gables, even told my mom that when she was watching an adaptation thinking I was so smart. Looked it up to be sure I wasn't just spilling false information and was shocked I was lol
The energy in this video just makes me smile so much. Love you guys!
I've been watching your videos and it's gotten me back into reading and why I love it so much. a lot of the one star reviews on here are ones I've never read myself.
Love your content. So glad I found your channel through you reviewing One Piece
This was the purest thing I've ever watched! 🥰 Not the 1 star review parts, just the two of you interacting
This was a very fun video. Love the chemistry between the two.
Love this kind of content. Please keep doing it
I am currently reading Mistborn and I knew right away what it was when you read the review. The accuracy 😂
Yay! Love you Merph ♥️
Thanks for the video, y'all! These are hilarious, and major kudos for guessing them!
"Think about this way....itttsss fiction."
(Likes video)
Thank you. This video was a joy to watch!
I loved the pencil drawing bit it was hilarious also I am very invested in that channel dedicated to gerbils
Keep being you Corey. You 2 make a good comedy pair sometimes.
I suggest looking for books it looks like Merphy has not touched in awhile then looking up their reviews next time... then toss in something she just reviewed at the end.
Love these vids.
The Brandon Sanderson reviews were pretty obvious (though maybe because he's my favorite writer). The Mistborn review was so funny! I've been thinking that Mistborn would make a good drinking game - every time someone raises an eyebrow you take a shot!
Every time the phrase "Kelsier smiled" comes up and you're dead by the end of the second chapter
___ nodded
Every time someone does something maladroitly
This video was awesome! Very fun to watch your chemistry
You guys are always adorable.
I love when you do this video. It’s so much fun 😂
I love that the first one was Words of Radiance 🤣 I just started reading it and I'm loving it
This was such a great video.
The one star review series is the best series since ATLA
@@jamesmayle3787 agree to disagree
Figured the Disney one was either Inkheart, Stardust or Golden Compass as they all seemed like they'd fit well with a over angered reviewer who might not be telling all the truth or mistaking Disney for other movie companies. Especially since Inkheart was 2008
Perfect way to start the day!
I was right there with ya with excitedly exclaiming Lies of locke lamora for that third? one XD I was so dang sure
Love the back and forth. Never stop giving each other a hard time. But always make up later.
“You don’t know everything about me!” 😂 You guys crack me up. Can Korey please start a channel about gerbils? I would subscribe so dang fast!
"It was a really good breath" 😂😂 This was great! Thanks! 💛💛💛
Man I knew immediately that one review was for Mistborn, probably because I finished a reread this week.
OMG I had a smile throughout this whole thing
I just need to know who edited the video, that close up on Korey marking himself with the pencil was perfect lol.
Korey did such a great job picking these! 😂
Hey Merphy! I'm sure you've been recommended ascendance of a bookworm for an anime/manga review but there's another similar show called bibliophile princess you might enjoy as well!
I love those videos!
"I'm Not Sure What Purpose Fiction Serves But I'm Positive It's Not This" Is a brilliant review, and I have to admit that this white board scene was a bit to much (like they litterally draw a flochart, with chalk I think, not with markers, but still).
Also, I thought the Winnie the Pooh one was actually Alice in Wonderland. It IS utter nonsense, and that's the point.
Also also, can you make a video about what you read to your kids? And I will keep reccomending the Moomins ^^
Merphy and Korey videos are my 3rd fav Napier content after One Piece and HXH reviews lol
Merphy: So _The Count of Montecristo_
Me: So you've chosen death
Ok, this just appeared in my recommendations... but I see a Stormlight and One Piece on the shelves, and I`m already loving this channel)
I thought the second book was Hitchhiker’s!! When I was trying to look for it initially, I first looked in the kid’s section and was super confused when I could not find it!
For the whiteboard alone, I gotta read Mistborn
Are you kidding. I couldn't get any of them right. I have read LOTR, and The Great Gatsby, but the rest I don't think I have read a single one. So great job Merphy!
Is that his new watch??? I've been waiting for this update 😂
Finally video with corey
You folks need a trip to Concord Mass.
Words of Radiance is my favorite Stormlight book too!
You two are the perfect couple. Please more videos with Korey.
How did they think nothing happened in WofR...? It was so dense.
The BOULDER!
Loved it.
Korey repeatedly pointing out the dates for no reason was the highlight of this video for me 😂
Korey sounds like the husband from parks and rec, or Monroe from Grimm, it's a very nice voice :)
My reaction to the review of The Blade Itself was practically identical to Merphy's. Ah, made me laugh!
Such a fun video! To sneer your question, The Great Gatsby is high school level because of all the symbolism, affair, etc, definitely not 6th grade! I read it in 9th grade, but the current curriculum where I teach has it in 11th grade. I loved The Giver! I remember we listened to the CASSETTE TAPE audiobook despite being firmly in CD audiobook era at that time, and the narrator read so slowly that I got impatient. I wanted to know what happened next! I bought the kindle ebook and finished reading it waaaay before Ali my classmates 😂
EDIT: to ANSWER your question (dumb autocorrect)
OMG that review of Little Women! 😂
This was fun!
I actually found Merphy through her husbands channel. It was wierd. I saw a Daniel Green & Merphy video once and wondered where I'd seen her. It was from all the photos from KentuckyMan's Fujifilm channel! :-D
LETS GOOO DO MORE KOREY VIDEOS
Don't worry Napier 👍even I have some difficulties in remembering everything about books or manga in general 😁✌🤣
I've been struggling a lot with The Blade Itself for 2 months , will dnf this torture of a read. Might give the book another chance in 2023.
I got zero of them right, but I did have the :O face when someone called out WoR lol.
The best one star reviews I’ve read have all been for horror novels.
Title is 🔥
I have the Giver book and did go through it around 6th grade... I however confuse its world with "Faherenheit 452" (about book burners) despite the existence of oppression being about the only common thread my mind provides.
I intend to read it once more just keep forgetting to start.
This will be a fun month!!
Busy month here. Did you have a good weekend? I finished editing a chapter, but it was mostly a lazy weekend for me. How are you doing on your book?
@@timmeyer9191 I did not get to work on it this past week sadly 🙀
@@britneynicole8903 not to worry. Finding time to write can be even more difficult than finding time to read or get in a workout. I have a desk job that has a bit of down time which allows me to read a chapter in a book or write. Did you read anything over the weekend. I unfortunately did not.
@@timmeyer9191 This was a crazy past week! I want to get back into reading and writing again soon!!
Kentucky Man!! Big fan!! I know this will be adorable and funny before I even watch it.
Update: It was! 🥰
1:14 Ngl I had Well of Ascension pegged for that one.
I like how Merphy and I were on the same page for the confident Lies of Locke Lamora guess and then neither of us had a plan B 😂
Your Little Women conversation hurt my soul =D
This whole video was hilarious...love you guys =)
I knew Louisa May Alcott was born in the US< but I had to go look where. She was born in Germantown, Philadelphia. Anyway, I didn't get any of them right but it was fun watching you both!
That whole part from 10:38 to 10:48 made me laugh so hard!
The secret Gerbil Channel, at last revealed.
Just makes me smile
best part of the video was the shenanigans at the end xD
For what it’s worth I definitely thought that one was The Lies of Locke Lamora too lol
Hi Merphy, longtime viewer of your channel here. I'm not sure if you're into historical fiction but the novel Pachinko by Min Jin Lee and the TV series that adapted the novel are both amazing. I highly recommend!
