this is actual drifting. vast majority of "drifting" nowadays are cheap imitations of this because it's simply managing power oversteer. want to actually drift? learn it on a low powered car because it takes skill to distribute the weight balance and initiate the drift like DK demonstrates so masterfully
well todays drifting isnt a cheap imitation, thats a different kind but also all pro drifter will agree that u should learn this , low powered and weight distribution before going medium to high hp
@@jakefearing6640 definitely not….drifting is drifting, be it the grassroots style thing keichi does or the 1000hp fd style of thing, they are different and require skill alike. what really is a cheap imitation is the stance culture, or ricer culture…..
I had an old 95 1.8L wagon that had maybe 100hp, but man if you got going fast and threw it into a corner it responded so well. Even not having a rear swaybar 😂 it's so simple. Turn in, little bit of countersteer to point you in the right direction, then steer back into it and keep it pinned and you'll come right through. I made alot of fast cars look slow on my local mountain pass when I would go over it to see my friends.
The design of the WRX leaned from uncontrolled 4-wheeler to "oh, you wanna go that way? I'll make that happen". And Subaru's computers have been making that happen more and more every generation. In reality, we just wanna slide the damn thing.
I'll never forget being stuck behind a handbrake-happy guy in a Subie on an online race in Gran Turismo 6 around Monaco. I just couldn't wrap my mind around how I couldn't get around him because he was still putting good pace in the car while still getting sideways around those tight hairpins.
I genuinely love this video. It would be great to have a modern Subaru WRX look as beautiful as they did in the 1990’s. Unfortunately, nowadays the WRX underperforms compared to its other Toyota GR Corolla and Honda Civic Type R rivals. Just like Williams F1.
Foot cam is great so you get to see him upsett and turn the car in hard braking getting it to oversteer then smooth counter steer with throttle all in one motion is great
Translation regarding differentials: If you're just playing around(drifting in this case), setting the center differentials open seems to be a better choice because it's more predictable and easier to control(less understeer) and lock it during snow. You can have fun as if it's a rear wheel drive car. Don't need R32 anymore - Tsuchiya Oh and apparently this impreza(white gc8) seems to have more understeer than the previous model due to having higher body rigidity.
Some notes to add to this, Open diff (green) will give the car a 35% front and 65% rear torque bias. Locked diff (orange) will give it 50% front 50% rear. The light chassis and rear torque bias + simultaneous AWD makes GC8s slideable. R33s are heavy in comparison and the dynamic AWD makes it hard to slide. The white car is more rigid than the blue car because of the central B-pillar in the 4 door setup. Impreza coupes are less rigid than sedans because they lack this.
His pedal work is very similar to rally. Using the brakes to move inertia one way and the other to initiate the drift. Impressive in a symmetrical AWD car
