@@dalemcilwain Haha, definitely man. Back in the early/mid-80s as a pre-teen kid it was cartoons and cereal all morning then straight into the Channel 5 Drive-In Movie double-feature. I actually got exposed to Kung Fu flicks even before they started playing them on TV, because when me and my brother were like 6 or 7 in the very late 70s sometimes my uncles had to babysit us and they would just take us from Brooklyn to Times Square where all those _adult theaters_ would run Kung Fu flicks during the daylight hours. So they would sit us there for hours watching back-to-back-to-back movies eating popcorn and drinking soda and then bring us back home. I distinctly remember seeing a triple-feature that was 1) Master Killer (aka 36 Chambers of Shaolin), 2) Five Deadly Venoms and 3) The Ming Patriots--we only saw part of that one cuz it was too boring and me and my brother made our Uncles take us home. But yeah man, Saturday Kung Fu flicks on Channel 5 was the shit

@@BrooklynBigAl I know what you mean, Fam. It's just sad that the children of today can't have that Saturday morning experience. Has for the Drive In Movie experience, you could be outside with your friends playing basketball or just hanging out. When it close to 3pm you stop what you were doing and report home to watch the movie feature. I lived across the street from a school playground. One Saturday afternoon, I was playing baseball with the other kids in the neighborhood. Good thing I wore a watch. At 2:45pm, I just walked off the field. Another kid asked me why I walking off. "Sorry for leaving. But The 5 Deadly Venoms will be on in fifteen minutes. Ten minutes later the whole playground was empty. I remembered Drive In Movie had double features for 2 straight years, never a triple feature. Then at about 5:15 or 5:30pm (if it's in the spring or summer time), we would be back out with a new energy or practicing a move, technique or style from a martial arts flick. 🥲

In the 80's, movies like this inspired kids all across America to try flying kicks in the living room, causing mom to yell at them while dad tried to take a nap on a Saturday afternoon.
May we never forget "Saturday afternoon Kung-Fu Theater."
And for all you kids who grew up with the internet and cell phones, you have no idea how much Coca-Cola, Atari and Kung-fu theater affected kids from the 80's. It was the perfect storm. It's amazing we survived.

That's why Pai Mei disrespected him all the way trought the fight, you see:
Traditional martial arts permits a challenge and a duel with a master of an art, in this case, Pai Mei is the master, so a duel against him is an duel against the school, but the school can have rules, like for instance, in certain karate dojos, when you want to prove their style, sometimes you may fight the second best before the best, it gives a chance to see not only if you're up to the challenge, but worthy of the master, but the rule is DO NOT KILL the second one.
The protagonist was blinded by revenge, and his kung fu was not that good, because he wasn't able to subdue his opponents without resorting to deadly force.
It takes a student semi competent to kill, it takes a master, to fight agaisnt a stronger opponent, and subdue him without killing.
The protagonist disrespected the rules of the school, disecrated the temple and undid his honor, by killing those who are not his enemies.
Pai Mei was pissed, and so would I be

I enjoyed watching these types of movies back then, even though some of them you had to read the subtitles but still was great to watch them. Man I wish they were still doing these type of movies on Saturdays afternoons. Miss those days and I know everybody else does too. Just wondering why they stopped it, of course back then there's a lot of things that they played and they stopped which is a shame.

sea green that’s true. In Chinese Kung Fu there are lots of techniques that specifies to kill, and lots of schools and styles include attacking testicles (like Wung Chun in Ip Man 4). As a counter, there’s a skill generally called 缩阳入腹 (hiding testicles into lower belly) which prevents weakness being attacked.
There are lots of other ‘ridiculous’ and kinda despicable techniques like this. Still take Wung Chun as an example, 标指 is also a technique to use fingertip to thrust throat or slash eyeball of enemy. In order to kill the enemy any weakness can be utilised.
