Got the 2021 model at Walmart a couple months ago for $179. Looks like I got a good deal. I'm retired (67 yo) so I really don't put it through all its paces but it does everything I need, at an excellent price.

I have the 2021 stylus, 2 years now and I love it. Long battery, great storage (128 expandable to 528) , fast switching between sites, etc. Very responsive lots of features. In fact I broke it recently when it fell out of my bike holder without the case on it (fail) and I'm going to buy another 2021! Why downgrade with a "newer" phone, it's one of the biggest androids too at 6.8 so for me it's a win. Getting my husband one too!!
The 2022 overheats for no reason and battery drains very quickly. WiFi internet gets much slower compared to the 2021. I bought 2 and both and both have the same issues.
It seems that every new phone from the Stylus series are receiving more downgrades by each year
2021 is better than 2020
That could be why the moto g power 2021 camera all the sudden stopped working...never had that issue with any of the Moto G's that I'ved had and I've had like 4 -5 of them. I've always preferred Moto's to Samsung and Apple. That might have to change 😭

I have the 2022 5G version it's pretty decent but it's a drop in quality by Motorola I've always purchased Motorola phones and I've never been disappointed till now
I'm still rocking my 2020 stylus and it's been an awesome phone. I didn't go for the 2021 because of the downgrade on the speakers and I'm not going to downgrade from a Snapdragon to a Mediatek processor on the 2022 version. I guess I'll just hang onto my 2020 model and enjoy those awesome dual stereo speaker until Motorola comes out with something better than what I have now 😁

Am disappointed with the battery swelling on the 2020. And phone only gets used lightly. Also go through stylus' like candy.
If one year hasn't brought many differences, then how about 2 years? I would love to see a comparison of possibly all 3 or just the 2020 and 2022 versions.

2020 better camera better speakers
I had the 2020 version. I still do. It is my backup phone. I dislike the new moto stylus. They aren't much of an upgrade at all.

I have been enjoying my Moto G Stylus 2021 for 15 months, now. I am a heavy user, and am on a low-tier Verizon unlimited plan. I am a rural customer with the notorious problem of widespread spotty and over-congested tower coverage, especially for data, which is a seldom-discussed dirty subject with all of the major carriers. See the history of large fines imposed on large carriers for overstating the useful extent of their rural coverage via their deceptive coverage maps. Verizon investigated why my signal was so poor for data, and advised me through a canned Verizon video of three options to hopefully counter the problem. I opted for the option to purchase a cell signal booster, and installed the booster on a 16-foot pole at a cost of about $140. Digging the hole for the pole and mounting the booster was a moderate pain that etched my commitment to call out all the carriers on their abuse and neglect of their rural customers, whom they charge exatly the same as urban customers for service that is less than half-a**ed. That said, the Moto G Stylus 2021 is a solid performer - when I am inside my home with the slightly better signal provided, thanks only to my $140 signal booster rig. Interestingly, my friend and neighbor, also dependent on a Verizon plan and anemic, congested tower and the same exact model of signal booster has been consistently getting stronger signal and better data on his budget Samsung A12 than I get on my Moto G Stylus 2021. We have thoroughly tested them side by side on our nearest cell towers. Samsung's A12 beats Moto G Stylus 2021 slightly at all times and places. Digging in to investigate further, we conclude that it is likely that Samsung put a better antenna and/or better antenna implementation in their A12 than Motorola put in their Moto G Stylus 2021. Of course, that is not a deal breaker, as the Moto G Stylus 2021 has - the stylus, a much better battery (4000 mw), better skin, etc. However, if Motorola is paying attention, they could dominate the market of customers dwelling in the millions of square miles of rural America with a phone equipped with a Godzilla of an antenna and tailored to overcome the described dirty not-so-little rural coverage ripoff currently being peddled proudly by the major carriers.
I got the Moto G Stylus 2020 and it is a great phone. I think the Stylus 2020 was a better phone than the Moto G Stylus 2021 as the 2020 model had stereo speakers and a better camera with higher MP ultrawide, action camera and it could do 120fps video. The 2021 model also came with Android 10 just like the 2020 model. Weird. The 2020 model does have larger screen and better processor though. I have lot of life left in my Moto g stylus 2020. I will consider in getting Motorola again with a future Stylus or future Motorola One Ace.

The 2022 does have more RAM tho, RAM makes more of a difference than processor nowadays.

@@alt666 multitasking makes a huge difference. Maybe you're not a power user. Not saying I would buy either, but the RAM would be factor for me
2021 is on sale for $150 at my Walmart. Had 128g and android 11.

As for these G Stylus's. Neither entice me enough to make the switch from our 2020 G Stylus especially the 2022 Stylus since its Geekbench scores barely rivals my 2020's. Sure there's more to this picture than just Geekbench scores, but really two years later and we're basically back where we started in terms of performance! Far as I'm aware NFC isn't all that costly to add so why does Motorola refuse to equip their North American budget device's with said feature?

Thanks Kevin! Very informative. I just ordered the Moto G Stylus 5G from Tracfone for $100. It's definitely a downgraded version of the $500 one reviewed in May 22. That one had 256GB (128 internal, 128 SD), 8GB RAM, 5000 mah battery, Snapdragon 695 processor. The one I'm expecting has only 128GB (SD optional), 4GB RAM, 4000 mah battery, Snapdragon 678. It's supposed to have a 48MP quad-cam and NFC. I'll see what shows up, in a couple days. In any case, I'm sure it'll be an improvement over my bloated, goofy-ass Galaxy A01!
Update! I received the 2021 model. Still a good deal!

You have the 5g variants probably. Because this review only focuses on the 4g variants of the G Stylus. The 5g and 4g styluses are completely different ball parks.

I got the 2022 model i used too have the 2021 and I have too say I'm liking it a bit more then the 2021 just because it has slightly better graphics and the stylus

It is currently Cyber Monday of 2023. After extensive research, I opted for the emerald green 2021 stylus 5g out of all of the Motorola stylus lineup. I got it on sale from Amazon for $129.00. I just received it this morning and for the sale price, I don't think I will have any regrets. I prefer the unlock button on the back and don't need NFC or anything like that. I bought a black case because I'm not a huge fan of the green. I'm convinced the average user is
WAAAY overspending when buying a $1200,12gb,512 phone. I can't imagine ever needing much more than this.
I was very confused. I'm using the moto g stylus 5g and I thought he was getting those low benchmark scores on the 2022 5g phone. I was about to comment saying " why's your phone so underpowered". But this makes sense. I think for the money I could have done better. But I got a decent deal on this phone through spectrum. I wouldn't recommend it for nearly 500 bucks. But for 300 it's definitely worth it.

The 2022 has a Mediatek SoC and the 2021 has a Snapdragon SoC .. They saved a couple bucks with the new processor and lost some performance .. They bumped up the camera 50mp from 48 mp .. The 2022 pics looks better

Just got the 2022 5G model for $149 as a screen only device for my drone.. but in testing out the phone I have found that camera is crap. But my phone has 120hz screen
G stylus 2021 is a 🆗 phone 📱 its fast and good I think 🤔 but could be better a bit more

You fogot to mention the moto G stylus 2021 only has one single firing speaker. That results in poor sound quality If you watch a lot of videos. This alone is a no go for me.
I agree with you 2022 feels like a downgrade altho I've only used it a few days. The battery is definitely worse on my 2022 than on my 2021. I'm wondering if it was really new through cricket or a battery defect .took forever to charge too . For awhile it wasn't charging. Stylist on 2022 seems better . The 2021 came out of its own never found it and was hard getting it in when I did have it. They told me mines was the 5 g but idk 2022

The metro 2022 g stylus 5G is much better than both with sd 695.
Again you didn't cover the most important feature. How it functions as a PHONE!. Ear speakers are pathetically weak on Moto. Only practically usable when on speaker.
I must have the wrong phone and thought it was this one because my phone has the fingerprint sensor on the back where the m logo is and it's a 5g stylus 2021 cosmic green so thought they were the same ones guess not

See in the us we don't get the moto g200 or g60 or any of those g models at all. We only get the powers, g that we only get. The stylus series the razrs and the edges
I like the punch hole camera in the 2022 model and the fact that it uses 4G is a shocker and a bonus it also has a 5000mAh compared to the 4000mAh battery in the Moto G Stylus 2021 I would say battery wise the Moto G Stylus might be a potential upgrade and compete with the Samsung Galaxy A Series Smartphones. I just ordered a Moto G Stylus 2022 so I can have expandable storage as an option compared to my BlackShark 4 Pro and I noticed it has color enhancements which is a big bonus for an IPS Screen over an LCD screen or an AMOLED it is definitely LIKE a trip down to memory lane I hate to disagree with you but I do believe the Moto G Stylus 2022 has SOME kind of potential and at least it's not expensive like Apple products.

The phone just feels light and cheap.. it even looks like a cheap phone when you turn it on.. it just looks like those prepaid in box phones.. and NO back finger print .. and no SNAP DRAGON!!! THIS PHONE IS SO NOT WORTH UPGRADING TOI.

Depends though. Better Battery life and better refresh rate, Mediatek is paired with 6 g of ram, they removed 4k video recording for 22 and still no dual speakers, Depends. 22 is kinda a mixed bag. But 21 is still very much so capable.
