Lyrics:
I thought I knew you well
But all this time I could never tell
I let you get away
Haunts me every night and every day
You were the only one
The only friend that I counted on
How could I watch you walk away
I'd give anything to have you here today
But now I stand alone with my pride
And dream that you're still by my side
But that was yesterday
I had the world in my hands
But it's not the end of my world
Just a slight change of plans
That was yesterday
But today life goes on
No more hiding in yesterday
Because yesterday's gone
Love, my love I gave it all
Thought I saw the light
When I heard you call
Life that we both could share
Has deserted me
Left me in despair
But now I stand alone with my pride
Fighting back the tears I never let myself cry
But that was yesterday
Love was torn from my hands
But it's not the end of my world
Just a little hard to understand
That was yesterday
But today life goes on
You won't find me in yesterday's world
Now yesterday's gone
Goodbye yesterday
Now it's over and done
Still I hope somewhere deep in your heart
Yesterday will live on

That was yesterday...when music was MUSIC!!!
The 80s!

Hard to give up .
Yes, the Best Era!
Yes!!
When Lou was on top of his game (before health problems took a toll) I would argue to say he had the best ROCK voice of all time. I know that's a big bold statement, but he was in another league vocally during this time.
He had the best Lyricks and Music❤❤Marie Sweden
Not bold at all. He's definitely in the conversation of being the best.... But without a doubt, one of the best... Non negotiable.
I totally agree... Nobody could touch Lou at that time. (Steve Perry is a close 2nd)
Foreigner today is nothing but a cover band.
Was at a concert a year ago and the new guy didn't even attempt the end of I wanna Know What Love Is. Lou was in a league with Freddie Mercury and Steve Perry
Ya he was ace!! He had a perfect pop/rock voice, although I thing Graham Bonnet got close too.
Legend Lou Gramm, this guys Voice was just one of fhe Best of the 80's! Legend! Foreigner is NOT Foreigner without this man.
I absolutely agree.

I saw Foreigner in concert right after this song was released. Wow, what a show! Lou was at his best. Almost 40 years ago, and I still remember that night. I will ever be grateful for the 80's.

The 80’s were like no other!!! The BEST DECADE!!!
Now it's all black rap crap. Not to be racist, but these black female singers singing about sex is not that good. Even my 3 year old tells me to change radio station when it comes on. Music today is garbage.
Wasn't as fortunate to see the concert...
But my first husband and I and my best girlfriend literally blew out my Plymouth Duster's speakers rocking to Foreigner 4 cassette

I saw them on this tour it was a great show
The 80's had the best of EVERYTHING !!! Why can't we go back ???
I wish. I grew up in the 80s and now I'm feeling so nostalgic. Such a wonderful decade.

I agree. And this is my favorite song by them. The words are powerful especially if you have been through a lot in your life.
Lou Gramm is the GOAT.
Best of the 80's.
Still watching in 2022. A superb performance!!!
Lou is Foreigner, poured his heart and soul in this one, you can hear it!!
Hello Carmen, how are things going with you?
And see it, Lou pouring his all out into this stellar performance. What absolute phenomenal stage presence.
Carmen Arjoon Foreigner will Always be Lou Gramm. I don't that other guys name and I don't need to.
@UserNo84 So what are you trying to say? Regardless of what you think or theorize, Lou Grammy was always a top tier singer. I had the privilege of seeing Foreigner on several occasions, twice in L.A. in the mid to late 80s, then once in '93 in Seattle. Every time Lou sounded impeccable; very clear with perfect tone and pitch. The band as a whole were always great to see and definitely, always a crowd pleaser, big time! So if your trying to bring some negativity to belittle either Lou Grammy or Foreigner with your comment, then I don't get it, cause why else bring up some detail like that, it's a music video! It doesn't take away from how truly talented of a band Foreigner was, especially with Lou Grammy on lead vocals. And I would have to say you are Wrong, if that's your intent in a characterization of this Great band.
Beijinhos to all of the World ❤❤❤❤❤Marie Sweden

Lou Gramms voice is timeless!!The dudes pitch and texture is perfect for such great songs
One of the best singers in music history. It can't be debated.
You brought up "texture" and I wholeheartedly agree. I was listening carefully to the difference between Lou and Kelly, and even though Lou's overall styling and inflections have been perfectly imitated, there is a unique textural quality to his voice that simply cannot be. It is this subtlety that makes a marked difference between a very good singer (Kelly) and a truly great one who cannot be equalled - Lou Gramm.

Some of the softrock stations played this one, but way underrated agreed, not enough play time.
You didn’t hear this ever..on the radio? WOW! That’s awful!! At that time I lived near Pittsburgh, PA (I’m in central coast Cali near Santa Barbara now), but I heard it frequently on those Pitts. channels. It wasn’t played NEARLY enough anywhere for how good this song really is (!!!!), but I was a great Foreigner & Journey fan, among many others and had their albums!!! Such an underrated song. Should have gotten way more airplay and still should.
1)The single reached #12 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, and also reached #4 on the Billboard Mainstream Rock chart and #24 on the Adult Contemporary chart. It also reached the Top 40 in the UK (#28), the Netherlands (#19), Switzerland (#29) and Germany (#31).
2)Based on those figures I'd say this song was HIGHLY popular!!!
The song is not underrated at all! Stop saying that!!
In some ways, it didn't get as much airplay as it could have because the OTHER songs in that time period were so good, as well. If you look at the early 1980s, the billboards were packed with other great songs every month.

The BEST ROCK singer imo and this song is fantastic. Lou is legendary
I had the pleasure of seeing this concert. Notice there was not a lot of stage crap, dancers, choreography, etc...this was when they were playing on their own, singing on their own, performing by the seat of their pants, making HIT after HIT on their own. Performers such as Bryan Adams, Journey, Foreigner, Pat Benatar..they didn't need gimmicks..they were talented.
But, when they did "I wanna know what Love is"...the took down the stadium...the University of South Carolina choir came in from backstage and ROCKED it~!
No band from the 80,s had that just good music no dancing girls, no videos, no cell phones, just an amazing concert experience with musical instruments and lots of talent
