When they were filming the movie "Two Lane Black Top" I was working at Baskin-Robbins in Santa Fe. I got to meet James Taylor when he stopped in for some ice-cream. I served Mr. Taylor a scoop of Pistachio Almond Fudge. He was a very kind and humble gentleman. I will always remember the kindness he showed to me, a 16 year old "future" fan of James Taylor. Great guy he is, I will say from that encounter.

Great times in 1971... 16 years old and these cars were running the streets!!

Born and raised in Detroit I would sleep on the couch and at 2.00 in the morning it would be quiet then I would hear motors revving and when the light turned green all hell would break lose I'm getting goosebumps just thinking about it we were close to Woodward so this went on a lot long live the old Detroit muscle!

This film is not about cars, racing, or even the people featured in the film. This was about life itself and what little control we have over it.

    • @Agislife1960
      @Agislife1960 Před 3 lety +7

I would respectfully disagree. When you combine a popular past time like cars and racing with pop culture, magazines, illustrations etc. it becomes a force of nature, such was the car culture of the 60's and 70's. It was about two guys who were seeking the freedom of the open road and using street racing as a means to that freedom. The theme for this movie is not unlike many others, where the brooding loner is just yearning to live life on their own terms, without interference from a complex society. They didn't have a malicious desire to hinder anybody's happiness per se, but they had to race, to stay on the road.

To cast musicians in main rolls was great made the movie more real and Dennis Wilson was never quite the same after meeting the Manson family. You don't need a multi million dollar budget to make a classic or cult movie.

70s was such a great, great era! Truly when you had more amazing high performance motors/cars coming out, or at least being built up by auto fanatics for cheap, and it was the true era of “Street Freaks!” I mean 50s/60s ruled as far as true high performance vehicles, cause that’s before the gas BS and etc that ended the “muscle car era” in 1974, but 70s was so groovy in the fact you could see a great big mix of street rods out racing and cruising around.

My brother-in-law (at the time) owned a service station in Durant. The '55 Chevy was always there being worked on. At least twice, he drove to Boswell to work on it before a scene could be shot. Loved it though, [the 55.] Was loud and fast. Loved the movie, saw it at a Drive-In Theater in Durant, always thought the ending was real weird, though.

I never get tired of it. Especially the racing scenes. I got the chance to go to Lakeview Dragway near Memphis,TN. in the early 70's. As usual progress always triumphs over history. And now "Big Willie" is gone too. At least I've got the movie and the memories.

@signoguns Yes. Dennis pretty much distanced himself from Manson after December 1968 and left Manson in his house on Sunset Boulevard. After the Tate/LaBianca murders in August 1969, Manson visited Dennis to ask for more money- which Dennis gave him (yet again). Manson was in custody from October 1969 (after the Barker Ranch raid). TLB was filmed between August and October 1970. Manson wasn't actually convicted until December 1971 though, so it must have been on Dennis' mind while he was filming this, that Manson may have still walked free.

    An existentialist masterpiece. :)
    Some quotes from IMDB:
"What it lacks in entertainment value the film makes up for with its heavy-duty philosophical and existential themes. An economy of language wherein nothing in the film is "explained", the tacit praise of the prosaic, and the almost stifling trust in the present moment, all speak to the human heart, as the voice of nihilistic romanticism. There is no freedom here, no escape, no change, nor redemption. The landscape horizon never gets closer. It's the myth of freedom and the embrace of alienation. No matter how far you travel, you never actually arrive." - Lechuguilla
"Sparse, tacit, stark and entirely denouement - a perfect depiction of America at that time in history.
Brilliant depiction of early post-industrial America; its ennui and dull disillusionment: Two hugely powerful cars in a half-hearted race to an ambiguous finish line. Going nowhere fast.
The action is sparse, dialog very spare, and rural pre-interstate America drifts past in dull, desolate splendor.
Three of the characters almost never speak, and the fourth almost entirely tells lies.
There is no resolution. No goals are accomplished. The film even abandons the race. No one changes or gains insight. It's a perfect film." - Slow Code
A film that tires of looking at itself and just ends. :)

The line is "I'll have a hamburger and an Alka Seltzer". Which is what she brings him.

***** you my friend are so brainwashed and full of shit.
If u think that stupidity and unrealistic bullshit is a way to entertain yourself well...sad story bro. I'd much rather watch something like Commando or True Lies for some pew-pew action and some D1 videos for cool car action.
Ok like 1st FnF was ok. Like'd the idea about tuning cars n shit. 3rd (Tokyo Drift) is cool to see for 2 or 3 times ONLY cause of drifting. 2, 4, 5, 6, 7 are pure stupidity. Heist movies on wheels with plot so bad it doesn't even make sense.
We can argue about this shit for day's. At the end no one will win. Some like stupid people. Some like intelligence. Fact that world is going hard into being stupid and ignorant is a dead on fact. How? People accept slavery as a norm these day's...fuck they are so brainwashed they believe they are free altho they are slaves to the debt of this economical system...live to pay takes and die so to say.
Knowing all the shit people believe in these days I am not surprised that they actually love these movies.

Lestat They’re successful because they ARE boring and audiences today are also boring. Shitty cgi shitshows with no real plot or meaning, not even FUN to watch
