    Michael Hampton's Figure drawing book is my all time favourite book when it comes to the human figure and I've read George Bridgman, Andrew Loomis, tomfoxdraws and even Rock He Kim despite not understanding Korean. Yet I still come back to Hampton the most.

    I think Anatomy for Sculptors is helpful. Because it was designed with sculpture in mind. You really see the 3d forms of the different muscles and body parts. It's really helpful just for sketching too.

      most drawing books you find down your local Library like Barrington Barber. but that situation may have changed because I asked them to get me over 10 excellent drawing books - until they got fed up and told me: no more.
      if the book is very good they tend to get quickly stolen. Like Andrew Loomis.

    Stonehouse's is *AMAZING*. I've never seen anything so indepth, so it's no wonder it took him a decade to compile, edit and draw it. Hamptons books good, but there are some ever so slight errors to his anatomy (atleast in my version). It is a great breakdown into the main muscles you need to learn and little ways to simplify them though.

    There are not books out there that cover the basics, one of my favourites is "Art for Kids: Drawing." Books that say they are for "beginners" have a different definition of the word than myself. They start of well the vier of in another direction. Another I like is "Basic Drawing" by Christopher Hart.

    im an absolute begginer in regards to anathomy. I shoudl learn something before I start anathomy then? like I should focus on some book about gesture drawing first,a dn then go to anathomy, or that last book you showed covers it too?

    lol I've already got every book on this list except the Stonehouse Anatomy book you mention, which is on my Amazon wishlist hahaha glad to know I've got a solid foundation already at my fingertips. I personally find Perspective Made Easy to be quite boring though honestly. Something about the old fashioned writing and dull colors make every page feel like they run together after a while, alongside the written "homework" orders at the end of every chapter. I found that I made a lot more progress a lot faster by using Matthew Brehm's Perspective: How to See It and How to Apply It. It's a lot of the same concepts obviously, but with a more modern day approach, and reference photos of the topic at hand alongside color drawings as examples helped me to wrap my head around the subjects much easier, especially relating to everyday life in a small city. It just resonated a little better to me. Don't get me wrong though, Perspective Made Easy is still a solid choice and I refer to it first when I need help with a perspective issue because it's still easy to digest, I just found it boring to work with as a starting point. There are a thousand different books on perspective so really it's pick your poison, but Perspective Made Easy won't steer anyone wrong even if it feels a little monotonous. And especially for such a small price tag to boot.
    I'd also nominate Anatomy for Sculptors, as a few others have mentioned. It's a very no-nonsense guide to anatomy, but it definitely works better as a supplemental book to go with any other anatomy books you already have.

    few years ago?O_o you are a genius.
    i have 96 design stubs for videogames (a handful of those intended remakes or rather remasters and refinement)
    I have times of ingenius imagination artworkwise everything propper on those, but not very frequented imaginations. Perhaps i am more intended towards natural fittings (because i have genius bubbles whenever i pour the liquid), BUT i cannot draw and proceeding to draw whatever 3d in my mind shuts off the imagination (seems like my motions are digging primarily proven functional things stored inside my brain). but perhaps i will be able to improve upon this (i drawn a few from frontal and sideways views).

    How does Michael Hampton's book compare to Steve Houston's?

    • @hgilbert
      @hgilbert Před rokem +2

      Michael Hampton's is constructive anatomy from imagination. It can be used to even draw creatures & monsters say for animation. Steven Houston is purely observation. You draw what you see and how to see. Also Houston talk about his choice of art materials and how to employ them.
