Great video, thank you! A word of advice when changing spark plugs: do it with a COLD engine. The spark plug threads in aluminum blocks can strip easier when the aluminum is hot.
I have a 2016 with 75000. Miles it seams it lost power when needed. I had thought spark plugs as well. Your video was very helpful thank you
So expected this to start with "Hey Guys! Chris Fix here!!!" ;)
Man, thanks for this! Our check engine came on the other day on our (newly bought) 2016 Soul. Computer said engine coil on cylinder 4. I'll be swapping it out on Thursday thanks to this 😁
You might as well do all four once you replace one they get jealous and cascade
Having this EXACT issue with my Kia soul and am doing the spark plugs and boots this evening! Hoping I get as good of a result as you did; although I think the intermittent misfire has clogged my cat converter filter as well. But I’ll burn that bridge when I get to it. Thanks so much for this video!
man of many talents! I always appreciate a fellow DIY dude (or dudette). It's not just the satisfaction of saving a few quid but also knowing its been done right. Plus you get a bit of peace and quiet from the Mrs lols
Hey Dr. Chris!
I've been a subscriber for a while now (I lose track of time. . .) and I really enjoy your videos. It always makes me laugh when Mona gets into the act with her sound bites. I watched your Amiga content even before I had an Amiga so I watched this video even though I don't have a Kia. . . LOL. My channel is about me working on my projects. Most of the time, that involves computer-related content. Now and then, I make a video involving auto repair. I have found that whenever I upload a video with content different from what I normally upload my subscribers get pissed off and I lose a few. Later, I gain a few from the repair video but they unsubscribe when I upload another computer-related video. I was intrigued by your approach of uploading this video and an Amiga-related video on the same day. The concept seems solid--the core audience rests assured that you are not leaving your usual format and you are able to do something different. I always learn something while watching you. Thanks for all that you do.
only four, so nice! I always dreaded swapping the EIGHT out of my ‘93 Mustang.
Nice to some variety in your maintenance schedule, even if it''s a bus-man's holiday, being electrical ...
Multi tasking Dr Chris 😁 In the Uk we call it a Dead Center (The grave yard)
I just did this to my 2018 Soul. Mine was misfiring on #2 so I just replaced all 4 plugs. I kept trying to re-gap them properly with so-so results. I bit the bullet and replaced all four coil packs and now it’s running great. Interesting that your gap specs showed .044. My research showed .040, but I ended up with about .045. Thanks for this video!
You could have saved money by switching out the coil packs 4 to 2 to see if the misfire moved. If it doesn’t move then you know it is not the coil pack. Good job on the spark plugs. Your torque wrench is old school!
I tried that before i made the video,
Could have put the GoPro in Linear lens mode
Hot engine is why I wait till the engine has cooled Just wish I had a garage as it's freezing cold half the year here
my gopro sucks, its a hero 6 silver
I just broke the release tab on the party that goes onto the coil pack. FML
Same. Mine is a 2015 with 104k miles. Plastic is just beat. Inevitable honestly
Nice wrenchin! What are the details on your firebird?
i have done several videos on it , way back and recently, episode 91 was on the 91 firebird, and a more recent one called 91 firebird w george bush gas. check them out
@@ChrisEdwardsRestoration Doh, I should have looked before I asked. My bad! 😄
The one that blows up? Mine has 215k on it regularly serviced. No issue. I have changedbthe ignition coils once and spark plugs 3 times myself.
yes blows up . 60K lost the engine due to the warranty screw up from kia building them with metal inside of passeges. coil packs drop in these left and right. if you got one that runs that well (mine has always been serviced properly) then enjoy it. so many have blown up aka engine failure. rod bearings, rods, heads, timing chains. etc... thats what i mean by blown up
Where is the distributor located on the Kia soul?
Coil packs on top the spark plugs controlled by the ECU, think of the coil packs as little individual distributers. sorta.
You might think that a Korean car maker would have spelled it “Seoul”? 😂
Americans would have butchered the name and called it a sea owl
nope. dude might be a master mech, but my 8 year old knows to back off when he burns himself. Are you trying to win a BET? bye!
GenX dont care about pain or burns. we were 36 years old at age 10, BYE
