- At the end of their Mediterranean journey, Sineb El Masrar shows Jaafar Abdul Karim her parents’ country. In Morocco, the two visit Tangier’s souk and its old city, with its view across the strait of Gibraltar to Europe.
Sineb then travels on alone. She meets an animal rights activist, helps out in a women's cooperative and hears the famous female "Hadra" singers in Chefchaouen, known as "The Blue City". After securing the right to sing in public, they have made female Sufi chanting famous far beyond Morocco’s borders.
Again and again, Sineb finds evidence that Morocco has its sights set on progress. The kingdom is undertaking an energy revolution, aiming to generate more than 50 percent of its electricity from renewable sources by 2030. For now, the Moroccan-made electric car is still a test project. But engineer Kawtar Benabdelaziz sees e-mobility as the future -- and not just in her own country.
Back in Tangier, Sineb and Jaafar look back on their travels around the Mediterranean. One thing is clear: its coastline contains multitudes. With its distinctive mix of European, Arabic and African communities, the Mediterranean’s richness lies in its diversity.

Yes, our nations are very old friends. I think America and Morocco will soon become extremely important economic partners as well. Morocco has massive phosphate deposits that we need for our agriculture. The US can supply Morocco with capital and technology to transform Morocco into the first green-energy (solar powered) industrial powerhouse of the world. I also dream of a day in the near future when Morocco will have massive chains of automated, water-efficient greenhouses in the Sahara, with solar-powered water pumps turning the desert into productive land to feed Africa and Europe.

As China's restriction, I have no chance to go abroad for travel, Morocco is a fascinating country for me.
Several years ago I had a job in Shanghai, which is a famous and vogue city around the world. The local colleagues are much richer than other people elsewhere in China. This advantage give them a lot of money and chance to go abroad. One day a colleague talked about his latest travel destination: Marakech, which is also a famous city in Morocco. His experience attracted me . He said the local people are very kind, the price and consumption level are quite low. It's comfortable to stay in such historical city. After that
I got interest of this amazing country.
I hope one Day I can break through the great wall to have a look in Morocco and other countries.

The name Morocco comes from the name of the city Marrakech which was the capital in the past. Marrakech means "the land of God" in the Amazigh/berber language. Also what you called Moorish architecture is Amazigh/berber architecture that was exported to Spain not Spanish architecture exported to Morocco

@@adilnourddine9747 moor or Mauri are Amazigh. Mauri meaning an inhabitant of ancient Mauretania Tingitana, the area of todays norrhern Morocco, partly Algeria. The indigenous people of ancient Mauretania, same as the rest of North Africa, except Egypt, are Amazigh, better known as Berbers.
Later on..Moor derived Mauri (an indigenious inhabitant of ancient Mauretania=Amazigh/Berber of present day northern Morocco, partly Algeria) became mostly a synonym for the muslims of western Mediterranean, Morocco/Algeria and Iberian local muslims.
as a moroccan, one thing to keep in mind that even region to region the overall idealogy is very different from one and another. north moroccans tends to be more conservative and traditional while more southern and inner parts like casablanca, marrakech, etc have become more modern and open minded

Maghreb is not countries but a country. Maghreb is Morocco just like Egypt iq for English people Messer is the real name of the country. France named the region after a country name and westerns Follow them. The same way they named French fries which are not French
@@lailaabir8698 That's not really factual though. Even Arabs often used to call it Bilad al Maghrib (opposed to Bilad al Mashriq) though so that's not really true and isn't just a French colonial thing.
In fact, it wasn't uncommon for Arabs to use these terminologies:
Maghrib al Adna (nearest Maghreb): Tunisia and Libya
Maghrib al Awsat (middle Maghreb): Algeria
Maghrib el Aqsa (furthest Maghreb): Morocco

إسترجعوا أرشيفكم من فرنسا و تركيا و إصنعوا لأنفسكم أرشيفا تاريخيا ترجعون إليه رغم أنه سيكون أرشيف أسود و لا يشرف لكنه يبقى هو حقيقتكم و كفى من سرقة التاريخ و التراث من المغرب الشريف و نسبته لكم و لدولة إسمها الجزائر الفرنسية لا أصل لها و لا هوية لها مثل غالبية سكانها الذين كازالوا يبحثون عن هويتهم المفقودة بشهادة المؤرخين الجزائريين و العقلاء الذين يوجودون فيها أو خارجها رغم أنهم قليلون جدا بالمقارنة مع باقي القطيع .

as a Moroccan woman i find it very offensive that women's "rights" are "hey , let's tell them what to wear!". Like, women here CHOOSE to cover themselves. Foreigners should stop telling us it's "oppressive", as the only oppressive thing is to forbid us from dressing as we like, ie conservatively. Actual problems here are education (mainly in the Atlas region) for one, which barely anyone talks about.

I visited Morocco in April 2015, spend a night at the Zagura side of the Sahara. My second visit was May 2027, spend a night at the mezuga side of the red Sahara. I highly recommend, it's so easy to join the group.all the hostels and hotels consolidate all the guest requests and meet at the central market and filled up the mini vans heading to the Sahara. During the hour long lunch, I shop for the famous Berber indigo long scarf necessary for the Camel 🐪 ride to the tent. Back in 2014, the camp site was already installed solar power lights on the path to the restroom 🚻. I wish to visit Chefchauen again, travel between cities are either by train or long distance bus 🚌.

I do really love to see this kind of travel documentary, it's always interesting and open our eyes about another world and culture. And i wish next report would be Tunissia, really wonder how situation at there now. , I had visit it around 2005 or 2006 from North to the south of Tunisia , until sahara, there was a palace in the middle of desert , also old train to mining, it was ivery nteresting trip . I have never been visit Morocco, need to visit it one day. It's true, Moroccon are good in languages. They spoke many languages.

A very very beautiful documentairy. My compliments. Only one small correct @25:23 This "African" should be North African which equates Amazigh. The indigenous Roots of most of North Africa. I wish you would have mentionend this fact instead of using losely terms like "African" or "European" which is more specific Iberian(mediterranean too and only seperared less than 8 miles from Morocco or "Africa") or "Arab" ( which is basically the Islamic faith) Morocco is no different than other countries who adopted Islam while still honoring their indigenous roots. Morocco =Amazigh=North African=Mediterranean.

In the medieval periods, Morocco was known by its capital city; under Idrisid and Marinid dynasties, Morocco was known as the kingdom of Fes as it was their capital city.
When Almuravids took control of the country, they built Marrakech and made it their capital city. Morocco was known then as the kingdom of Marrakech. The origin of the name "Marrakesh" is disputed, but it is most likely from the Berber words amur (n) akush"Land of God", from which Spaniards derived Marruecos and Marokko in dutch . In English, it is spelled Morocco and in French Maroc.

Foreigners should stop telling us it's "oppressive", as the only oppressive thing is to forbid us from dressing as we like, ie conservatively. Actual problems here are education (mainly in the Atlas region) for one, which barely anyone talks about.
