This is good, but I preferred the You've got a Friend version in this song list - though the Muppets do sound a bit too cheerful. Vincent is priceless, except for his surname that is, of course. 😉
So, let me get this straight: the English version of this song is about Ratigan saying goodbye to his archenemy ; the Italian version straight up turns it into a love song like Basil and Ratigan were former lovers, and the French version is somewhere in-between the English and Italian one.
You gotta hand it to Ratigan.. As wicked as Ursula was when changing into a beautiful girl using Ariel's own voice to woe the man of her dreams, as much of a prick scar was for outright killing Mufasa and breaking all our hearts, as Evil as all the Disney Villains have been over the years, None of them have put the time and effort into singing and recording a whole musical number to play on a record while their nemesis dies.

Vincent Price had a wonderful singing voice and it was tragically underused by Hollywood. He sang a little in an old film called The House of the Seven Gables, when he was much, much younger. I'm so happy he got to sing in The Great Mouse Detective (twice!)

This song makes it very hard to convince me that those two weren't actually bitter exes. I mean, listen to it! Not to mention, their obsession with chasing after one another. Also, Basil has of all things, this gigantic portrait of Ratigan in his home, hanging on the wall and Ratigan has a voodoo doll of Basil. Yeah, definitely bitter exes.
