The yellow button is also used to scroll through the options on the instrument cluster, but main use is the four wheel drive only engages in reverse when this button is pressed. The all wheel drive system on Polaris ATV's is not like any other, there is a magnet inside the front differential that is activated when the switch is on, this magnet causes a plate to engage a cage with rollers. The cage turns a little and the rollers are forced out of their pockets where they usually spin freely and they lock against the side of the housing and lock the axle. Due to the design, when you reverse the ATV this friction lock is broken due to reverse motion, this override button depressed is used to lock the differential in 4x4 again. So you need to remember to press that yellow button even in 4x4 mode when in reverse to actually have 4x4. Hope this helps you out of a possible stuck situation.

Great review! I have a 2010 bought it brand new and absolutely love it. Very reliable. Do you know what the aftermarket back extension rack part number is?

Personally I've used the yellow override reverse button for more power when in some deep mud to get out of bad situations. Also to do reverse pulls of someone else that may be stuck when you can't get to the other side to pull in a forward motion. Not used often, but has come in handy in such situations as above.

Thank you for the great review! How much do you miss having power steering on this model? I was thinking about buying an 2008 and I’m concerned about the absence of power steering. Thank you

I guess it depends on your style of riding and the environment you ride often.
I live in Reno so there isn’t a lot of rocky roads. Most of my riding is done on dirt trails and fire access roads. That being said I don’t need power steering. I don’t feel like I’m missing out at all.

We are waiting for the snow to melt a bit more up in Tahoe. We got over 800 inches this winter. It was historic!!!
