  • *Let me know what you think of the Polaris 500 H.O.* This is a review of the older style 2006-2011 Polaris Sportsman 500 H.O. ATV. I put about 3,000 miles on my 2008 500 H.O. and had great luck with that model. I explain my ownership experience. In a nutshell, I really liked it and would recommend one if you can find a low mileage well looked after unit.

I currently have a 2007 500 x2, a model they only made for two years. They are quite rare and a little bit more expensive but I absolutely love it, the long frame and powerful motor make it perfect for off-roading and working around the farm

Hey buddy, nice video. I recently bought an 07 Sportsman 500 X2 Deluxe Model. The AWD system allows me to just crawl up steep hills. Very peppy for a 500 and the EFI makes it even better. The suspension on this quad is probably the best I've ever felt. If I had more money around I would get my hands on another X2. I found it at a good price with low mileage and hours. This video along with other videos helped me purchase a great machine. Thank you. Keep up the good work on the videos.

Thank you James, I appreciate that. I always found the 500 Polaris was peppy for a 500 as well. I think I mentioned in the video that I wish I never sold it. I miss that one. Polaris definitely has the suspension system down to an art. The Sportsmans were definitely a plush riding machine. I'm glad I was able to help you make a decision you're happy with.

I have Polaris Sportsman 500 HO EFI Touring 2007. I bought it 3 years agi without knowing ANYTHING about ATV's. I was lucky and hit a jackpot with this one.
It's extremely reliable, you can find still all parts you need to replace, it doesn't have too many electrical components to break on you and even without power steering it handles very well.
I use it in harsh Finnish enviroment, witch means -22F wintertime and +86F summertime.
Not once I have had problem with this warhorse.
I blow snow, I get tree trunks out of the forest and use it just to drive in woods and highways.
Best little machine I have owned.

I own a 2014 Polaris Sportsman. I bought it brand new and last year I bought the Can Am Outlander 570. It's hard to argue what machine is better because I like them both. They both have solid power and 4 x 4 systems. Nice review on your older machine. I am not brand loyal. I am just a guy who loves ATVs that is reliable.

Just stumbled across your review of your 08 and enjoyed it. I`ve always rode Polaris snomobiles and atvs and have a 06 500 HO fuelie that i bought new and was the first year for efi so was a few bugs to iron out with reflashing the computer couple times and repairing rubbing extra efi wiring not particularly designed for that chassis. Has been an amazing bike and truthfully hasn`t had an easy life, spending it`s fair share of time at the dealer lol. All due to operater error and hold my beer moments but only had to be towed back to camp twice, broken belt after upside down in the creek and burnt up stator after submarining it and pullstart handle wasn`t sealed. Still gets used year round plowin snow yardwork or just goin for a rip still runs strong for a 15 year old bike, savin up for power steering kit with no desire or need to replace it.

And I agree with ya on the smooth ride, I took a 500 HO for a ride with my g/f at the time, and I was super surprised at how smooth it rode on the trails, it was like a cloud haha I did find the body roll at higher speeds a but noticeable, I'm guessing b/c of the soft suspension but man what a soft/smooth ride.

If they would make an ATV with an 850 engine they would probably get a lot of people from Polaris and Can Am that would buy them. Same with Yamaha and the Grizzly. I don't know why other ATV brands haven't copied the Polaris built-in front storage box. I used it all the time. Thanks for watching!

2009 500 X2. 400 babied miles and always parked indoors. I bought it because I need a 2 up and I love the dump box although the box is pretty useless with the passenger seat set up for use. Nobody else makes this or I'd probably sell it and try another make.
    Under powered and slow.
Oil changes are a pain in the ass. (clamp the hose and listen for the hiss. what a bunch of BS! not to mention oil needs to be drained from 3 places)
    Problems with the MAP sensor.
Polaris wiring harnesses are generally crap and rub here and there. Tiny wires break off easily and Polaris doesn't sell the connectors.
Many, maybe earlier models, ate cam shafts.
Current problems are difficult start, won't idle, won't go over 5300 RPM, backfires through the intake and often won't run at all. No codes.
They eat wheel bearings and have to buy an aftermarket device that claims to grease them.
    Starter sounds horrible.
    No recoil.
    Very clunky shifter.
    Not enough grease fittings.
Suddenly releasing the throttle when on ice makes the back wheels stop causing a spin and maybe tipping over.
Other than that, I guess it's ok.

My biggest complaint about the Polaris AWD system is that the rear wheels have to spin a little before the front will engage. Most of the time that is totally seamless, and you never even notice, but when trying to load the ATV on to a truck using steel ramps, having the back wheels spin is nerve racking, and can make it incredibly hard to get up the ramps.

    • @EastCoastATV
      @EastCoastATV  Před rokem

I 100% agree. Also when you are on slippery trails and you let off the gas the rear wheels lock up which can send you sideways.

My machine gets used mostly for logging and will pull a third of a cord on a trailer nicely, I pulled a half cord once but that is getting too heavy for the little 500.
