I grew up in apartheid South Africa in the 70's and we didn't care about mixed languages and all that. We enjoyed Jaluka for the music they played and we bought their records. It was mostly just the politicians that got their nickers in a knot.

Oh no! I can't believe I just found out he died! 4 YEARS AGO!!!! I so love his music! Why do the good always die so soon? It is not like Africa doesn't need him and his music and his beautiful thoughts anymore! Or the world for that matter. I saw him live just once in Germany. It was the greatest, best and happiest concert I have ever been at. Please everyone, remember Johnny Clegg and his great heart!
Rest in Peace Mr. Clegg! I hope you had an easy crossing.
    God Bless,
    Mary

      What do you mean exactly?
He retired from live performances because of pancreatic cancer, but was planning to still record and do speaking engagements etc. Unfortunately, the cancer and subsequent death stopped all that: he had his last live public performance in November 2018 in Zimbabwe, which had been postponed from earlier in the year due to his illness, and his penultimate public show in Mauritius in October 2018. As far as I know a final private performance for the launch of ‘The Friends of Johnny Clegg’ on 6 December 2018 was held in Cape Town, South Africa. As I understand it, he became really very ill in April or May 2019 and then, as you may know, he died on 16 July 2019.
