- Unboxing Xiaomi's Redmi Note 12 Pro Plus 5G, the global edition of its upper-mid-range smartphone boasting 200MP camera tech, impressive gaming performance and 120W battery charging. Those specs are insane, although the Redmi Note 12 Pro Plus does suffer from old software.

This affordable blower boasts premium hardware including Samsung's HPX camera sensor, which can take impressive low light photos. The Redmi Note 12 Pro Plus 5G also offers a full gaming mode and can play Genshin Impact on higher graphics settings like the Realme 10 Pro Plus (another Dimensity 1080 smartphone).
As for battery life, the Redmi Note 12 Pro Plus' 5000mAh cell seems to last all day with 120W charging to power back up in just 20 minutes from empty. Very impressive stuff outside of a flagship phone. However, while the specs are great, the Android 12 software and lack of long-term support means you may be swayed by the Samsung A54 5G instead.

Pretty wild that as the consumer we get excited now when a company includes the charger in the box. Lord I wish we could go back to when unboxing a new device was actually an enjoyable experience.

I have this phone and i can say it holds up nicely. Android is updated to 14 with the newest oxygenOS and i like it. Best thing about this phone is the camera and the fast charging. 20min and the phone is full! You can literally see the percentages adding up while you charging, amazing.

Trying to decide whether I should get a xiaomi 12, nothing phone 1 or this phone. Does anybody have any recommendations? I'm also considering to wait around for the xiaomi 13 to come down in price.

I replaced my iPhone X with one of these a couple of months ago (the joys of living in China). I was (still am) really hacked off when MIUI 14 came along and kept Android 12. However, I seem to have a strange bug with mine. The always on display is always on despite the settings saying it will go off after 10 seconds. Also, what no-one ever mentions is that there are very few apps available that will actually edit 200Mp photos.

How it sounds on headphones
The thing is, I do not think android 12 is a bad thing necessarily, and having 2 OS updates and 3-4 MIUI updates is quite alright if you do not keep your phone for too long. If you are someone who gets a phone under a contract, you usually end up getting a new phone every 24 months anyway. When I go back to my Xiaomi note 9 pro on android 12, it works flawlessly and if I wanted to continue using it as a daily driver - it would make no difference to my iphone 13 unless something drastically changes in a new android version. These are good midrange phones, and I would go with Xiaomi rather than any Samsung A series.
Exactly, the MIUI and security patch updates are a thousand times more important than OS. The OS is not a big deal. If sales are high on a particular device then Xiaomi will up it to 3 years OS regardless.

Honor 90. I've the Redmi and mum has honor. The cameras are way better on the honor, curved screen, and better software with no advertisements.
Does anyone know if there are phones bigger then 6.7 inch? I would like a 7 or even 7.5 inch phone.
The only 2 phones I know bigger than 6.7" is the s23 ultra and the red magic 8 bro both are 6.8" you'd be hard pressed to find something in-between most higher end mid rangers are either smaller at around 6.6 or 6.5 or bigger at 6.7 or 6.67
The Global version doesn't work with Google play and banking apps as bootloader is unlocked in order to install the Global rom.

I have the Xiaomi 11T Pro. The main issue with this phone I have since new, after about 2 months in use, when using that 120w charger it's after messing up my display, when over heating from charging sometimes my display malfunctions , flickering like crashing, the battery drains too quick lately I've noticed soon as it gets to 64% it drops to 0 in 10 mins, I have this device 12 months now and it's my first Xiaomi device I bought . I'm considering switching to the Redmi Note 12 Pro Plus. Should I switch????
I'd not use chargers beyond 33w daily with these phones it will just ruin the battery no matter what they say.
The 'safest' rate with lithium is about 1c, which means 1Amp (at 5V charging voltage) per 1Ah (1000mAh) of capacity. Older, ~2000mAh phones used to charge at 2A (10w), so a 5000mAh battery gives you 5x5=25w,make it 33, but no more.
@@25myma Thanks for your reply on that, I'll keep that in mind.. The battery life seems normal and the display hasn't messed up since I tried a slow charger.. I'm currently using Honor Magic5 Lite phone now.. Seems way better but only downfall is the cameras, definitely not as good as the Xiaomi 11T Pro.. Huge difference in image and quality but the battery is far superior on the Honor Magic5 Lite.. I have both now, but my main for calls and all is the Magic5 Lite

Great review as always I do think the phone is overpriced at £450 for a Redmi though as that's Poco F territory. The fact they've taken things away from the software like propper aod was bearable on the Redmi Note 10 Pro as it was only £220 but when this is £450 again not good enough.

@@jol7754 not sure which Xiaomi phone you used, but my Poco F3 is still going strong after almost 2 years. Its my 2nd phone to my main Samsung A33 and mostly for gaming. If you want to talk about serious throttling, i can introduce you to my A33

Megapixel value doesn't seem to make much of a difference in real world photography, from recent discoveries.

Why on earth would you say "unfortunately" for its plastic frame? Obviously, corners would have had to be cut in order to pack in those flagship features at such a competitive price. Some people also don't care for the gimmicky glass body/frame which only further bloats the prices of flagship models so long as they can still enjoy Android flagship features.

Redmi note 12 pro plus is better as it's has more battery durability and fast charging unlike a54 it's has a 6h battery durability (8h for redmi)
And shipset is a big difference also which make redmi note 12 pro+ necessary for everything but the cons of a54 you will not be able to get a charger inside the a54 box you would need to buy the charge also one point that it's take 1h and half to charge a54 so my suggestion for you is to buy redmi but in higher range buy Samsung why? Samsung has strong shipset when higher at prices such as Samsung S23 Ultra , S22 Ultra , S23, S22 , and Z flip
Those good for fun use and more than 3 years use and good camera features they won't be annoying in anything but they don't charge fast as their fast charging is 45w only sadly Samsung didn't improve their fast charging time since years and still now

I would buy it immediately but that only 2 mayor updates is killing it for me because Android 14 will launch later this year and that would be the last big Android update for it, really bad. That’s why I’m thinking to buy an Galaxy A54 because it gets updates until Android 16 and that’s impressive.

I am not so sure about the reviewers assumption of not getting Android 15. I assume Android 15 will be next year so it seems too short for them not to give an Android that came the next year after a phone release.
My Redmi Note 10 Pro was released in 2021 and i got the Android 13 update. Android 13 was released the year after that device was launched similar to how Android 15 will be.
It think Android 15 is on the table for this device.
Go for the Poco F5 will be similar price and far more powerful
