  • Comparing Samsung's Galaxy A55 5G vs Xiaomi's Redmi Note 13 Pro Plus 5G, to see which mid-range smartphone is best for you in 2024. I've used them both as my full-time phone so here's how the camera tech, gaming smarts, battery life and other bits measure up. And check out my Samsung Galaxy A55 5G and Xiaomi Redmi Note 13 Pro Plus 5G reviews for a more in-depth examination!
You can also see my favourite mid-range mobiles of 2024 rounded up here on Tech Spurt, if you're after alternative options.
If the camera is your priority, I prefer the Samsung A55 - although the Redmi Note 13 Pro Plus does pump out warmer, more inviting looking pics in good lighting. Still, the Galaxy copes better in low light, while the Xiaomi phone often struggles to even focus.
Gaming fans will want to try the Redmi Note 13 Pro Plus 5G. Not only did I find this smartphone heated up less with Genshin Impact, but the frame rate was more stable and the HyperOS game mode is better than Samsung's basic effort. The Galaxy A55 5G offers similar battery life vs the Redmi Note 13 Pro Plus, but Xiaomi's phone is superior when it comes to recharging.
Let us know which mid range smartphone you think is best in the comments below!

@Nick-nf1kd My laptop is around the same price as a flagship, but its performance is much more powerful than a flagship, but the dslr cameta statement is true, but the reason why I wrote this comment is because, companies are purposefully making things expensive just to make profits and governments are printing money a lot, because of this, currencies have become less valuable and because of that, phones have become very expensive

I just got my Redmi Note 13 Pro+ Fan Festival in Mystic Silver but it has a shinny back which gets tons of fingerprints - not recommended, but already installed the protector. The phone is heavier than my prior Realme GT2 and not as smooth. I'm hoping for better performance when the Hyper OS arrives in Europe. The battery is not that great either, but the charger is a huge plus.

The A55 sells for around $600- Cdn here, that's like venturing into flagship price territory,. For that amount I can get an open box S23 or a new S23 FE and many other phones with an actual optical zoom lens like the Xiaomi 13T. I bought the Redmi 2 days ago, I really would love it except of 2 big showstoppers for me. It has a really weak vibration motor. Before the purchase, I haven't thought I should try vibration first in a store or something, now I know. The bigger problem is a bit specific one, I cannot use Android Auto with this phone in my car. It was working perfectly with my previous phone Xiaomi MI 9T Pro. The Redmi can connect, but the head unit's screen is freezing, refreshing in every minute or so, however I can hear Waze instructions, I can receive calls. This has something to do with Mediatek chipset and something with my car's head unit. I read a lot of reports from users with Xiaomi Mediatek phones and 3-5 years old cars (different manufacturers, Citroen, Nissan, Suzuki, Opel...). So I decided to take the phone back to dealership, and I will try the A55... Now there is a great discount at one of the online shops in my country, I can buy a 256GB version for 400€. I tried its vibration in a store, it felt stronger to me, maybe it has bigger motor. This comparison is really useful, thanks.

I went for the A55 over the Poco X6 Pro and I'm glad I did. It's more expensive and isn't as quick in SoC or charging, but has superior support, better build and better cameras which frankly I was getting a bit sick of over my last 2 or 3 Pocos and Xiaomis. The X3 Pro was my last exercise in prioritising SoC above all else and it wasn't the best decision I ever made... pretty much everything else on the phone was cheapened so they could justify a SD860. Add to that the supposed board reliability issues in the X6 Pro... although I had no problem with X5 Pro although X3 Pro was getting proper flakey before it's battery proceeded to swell up. Oh, and you can get a good deal of A55 accessories too... the Chinese OEMs generally aren't as well catered for, unfortunately. All in all very happy with the A55 so far...

There's a crucial factor you missed on with the displays, The Redmi has narrower and taller 20:9 screen compared to the Wider 19:5:9 of the A55. You can even notice it on the video when the 2 phones placed side by side. The A55's wide screen wins it for me. Chinese phones seriously need to let go and move on from 20:9 already it's so skinny that samsung joined Apple and made all A and S series 19:5:9.

The S23 FE is generally hated for having a subpar and 2-generation-behind flagship processor; both the Exynos 2200 and SD 8 Gen 1 are not well-received due to their poor battery efficiency and heating issues. A55 is a good choice if you don't need the absolute best performance but still want a premium-looking, well-rounded midrange device that provides you the Samsung experience. If brand or UI isn't your concern and if OnePlus 12R is priced in the same ballpark as A55 where you live, then the 12R is a no-brainer. It's got the SD 8 Gen 2 and it shouldn't even be classified as midrange!

If you can buy midrange samsungs a year later or when the new version comes out. More choice, and range of prices. I bought a a54 for £240 (new), and fast charger for £8. Faster than my old a71, but......with the speed. Better cameras (a little better) come HEAT ! I managed to to throttle the chip on the a54 using a photo app to the point were it stopped working were the SLIGHTY slower a71 never did this !

  • @76anonymous

The xiaomi is actually the better buy 🙂
To me xiaomi midrange phones are always better than Samsung's midrange phones, what annoys most people are the pre installed apps on the xiaomi. There is absolutely nothing there, all you just need to do is to delete them not as if it will take much of your time.
    I love xiaomi ❤

Im stuck for a mont now choosing between those two phones....Someone help!!!
    On the Redmi side :
-i already had xiaomi phone and was actually pleased with it for 4 years now.
-120W charger that comes with a phone
    -curved display
    8/256 unlike samsungs 8/128
    On the Samsung side:
    - Its been a while since i had samsung phone
    - OS definitely better on Samsung also 4 years of OS updates unlike Xioami 4 (actually 3 ,cause phone comes with android 13 , so as soon as you start it and update it to 14 and new hyper os you are left with 3 years of updates for android)
    -Design and aluminium frame
Id like to hear your opinions and help me decide :)

    • @LloydZyanRUy
      @LloydZyanRUy Před 13 dny

Only 3 major OS updates for redmi (only 2 left since it came with Android 13). But with Xiaomi, you never actually know when will you receive those updates. Even the security updates would come so late

I recently broke the screen on my a70 I'm getting it fixed but in the mean time I'm using a a15 got a great price on it I'm very impressed with it.. It's even got an super amoled screen and a 5000 mla battery and the camera is pretty good. It's only 4 gig ram. But it's not getting heavy use oh and it's got a decent processor for a budget phone.

I had the note 13 pro plus 5g for about two weeks and sadly I had to re sell it. The reason: I was unable to watch 4k 60fps HDR CZcams videos, tried changing redmis refresh rate to 60 but problem persisted lagging, I was only able to see 4k CZcams videos but not on 60fps nor HDR10+... I ended up buying edge 40 neo and I'm gladly able to.
Also I'm keeping my old s20 fe who is perfectly able to reproduce HDR 60fps content fluently.
Not to mention battery life and heating problems of this Redmi. Yikes!

Honor x8b wouldn't allow 4k content on CZcams and it's 1080p display, but I'm on edge 40 neo now, and it works flawlessly with 4k yt videos HDR 60fps! With NO PROBS at all... So who's fault is this? Processor? Edge 40 neo has dimensity above 7k... So...
