    I woke up this morning with this song in my head - haven't heard it for nearly 20 years (at least). I have the LP and 45, but for some reason I've not played them for ages. This takes me back to junior high when the song was first released, and I must say, I've never heard this full ("unedited") ending before; what a treat! I love the way the vocal lines weave around each other so harmoniously. This is real pre-woke, '60s surf, SO CAL happy music! ... oh, and hats off to the Wrecking Crew!

    Big Nick died that summer on his Triumph motorbike and that summer still haunts me today.

    With 16 Top 40 hits (6 of which were in ther Top 10) and over 20 million record sales, Jan & Dean have had more billboard chart success than half of the already inducted HOF acts. As for influence, it's hard to compete against the first ever made film portaying the lives of any rock stars, "Deadman's Curve" was a rating hit that literally lauched the comeback for Jan & Dean. And then there was the shear dedication of Jan Berry fighting back against all the odds to not only walk and talk again, but to perform music once more for another 25+ years. And yet with all of this, they continue to get overlooked by this so called Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.....a real shame.

    • @mtp4430
      @mtp4430 Před 2 lety

      @@davidharvey7300 I never said that I hated it. I have studied, and played music since I was a child and was raised listening to, and absorbing, all kinds of music. Infact, I've never heard a form of music that I didn't like. I may not be a "fan" of every type of music, but I do enjoy songs from every genre that I've ever heard.
      My wife is Greek and I wound up listening to a lot of that music also. I even taught myself to play the bazookie.
      Jan and Dean's music has it's place. I never said that it didn't, and I do like the Beach Boys, who in the beginning basically copied Jan and Dean's sound. But if we're being honest, The Beach Boys catalog, as well as their singing, is on a whole other level.
      Jan Barry was a great producer, and even showed Brian Wilson the ropes. But Jan could never write something like God Only Knows, just to name one from their catalog. And Carl and Brian were head and shoulders above Jan and Dean vocally.
      And the reason I watched this video, and others like it is because I like everything, as I said earlier. And this type of music is no exception.
      Mostly I admire the strength and courage it took for Jan to get his life back together after that horrible accident. I admire that more than his contributions.
      But some of the comments were so overblown. Like a hero worship thing. They had a good run, and they had their place, no doubt about it, but people were putting them on a pedestal.
      That's all I was commenting about. I love the Beatles, who btw, are another band they can't touch, but I still don't put the Beatles up on a pedestal, and I want to puke when I see comments worshiping and idolizing them.
      These people perform and entertain us, they're not Gods. And Jan and Dean have their place, but I'm sorry, they just weren't top shelf. But as long as they made you happy, that's all that counts. It's all about reaching people and making them feel good.
